Days Inn Austin/University/Downtown

My budget conscious friend booked our room here, stupid me didn’t ask him what hotel we were staying at before I met him in Austin. Stayed in room 204 and felt itchy all over my body the next day, but couldn’t figure out what it was. After staying a 2^nd night, bug bites started to appear all over my body so I’m verifying the previous reviewers bed bug review. I hope I’m not bringing any home in my bag I had laying on the floor. My other friend that stayed with us also said he was itchy so it wasn’t just me. Also had the house keeper walk in me when I was taking a shower the first day, the 2^nd day a house keeper came in my room without knocking first, which wasn’t a great way to wake up in the seedy area the hotel is in, then 15 minutes later when I was up and getting changed a different house keeper just opened the door without knocking WTF, knocking and announcing your entrance is basic housekeeping etiquette. I don’t know why they were in such a hurry to clean the run down room. Took a shower in the lowest water pressure shower ever, and dried off with a towel that felt like sandpaper. I’ll be booking hotel reservations on the next trip my friends and I take. I travel a few times a month, in all fairness I typically stay at better brand hotels, but this is the first time I’ve dealt with bed bugs and such crappy housekeeping. This is officially my worst hotel experience.

Had a booking that was confirmed a few weeks out yet when I called after they overbooked and «walked» a friend of mine my booking was cancelled, which I found out in the taxi on the way to the hotel. Dwayne, the only employee in the hotel (so he said) said he had nothing to do with it and they were fully booked. When I argued that my confirmation number should reserve me the room he just hung up. Needless to say the customer service here is well below the one star. Can you give zero stars on Unilocal

One of worest hotel i’ve ever seen in my life.
The house keeper didn’t bother to clean my room for 3 nights during my entire stay and when I complained the front desk guy asked me to BRING the sheets and the blanket to the front office and he will give me a clean ones!!! Am I paying money bring my own damn sheets by myself… Sheets and blanket has an obvious stains and the walls as well. Rooms doesn’t look the same as in the pictures. Very weak WiFi signals.
I will never ever recommend that place to anyone.

This was hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at as far as hospitality and professionalism are concerned. I never write reviews and it takes a lot for me to publicly talk bad about a business, as I typically try to give the benefit of the doubt, but this case put me over the edge. Here’s what I experienced from beginning to end: I booked this hotel through Expedia as I had to find a place to go stay while my apartment was being painted and worked on. The landlords agreed to put me up in a hotel, and asked if I would pay for the hotel and they’d reimburse me. Not wanting to be unreasonable and ask them to pay a lot for the hotel, I decided to go with this particular Days Inn that had decent reviews for a 2 star hotel on Expedia, and was also having a «sale». They also conveniently allowed pets (I have a cat), and the location is close to where I work. Upon my arrival, the place was a little less than I expected based on the reviews. I woke up the first morning with bug bites, and assumed that a mosquito had bit me throughout the night. Didn’t think much of it. Fast forward to the next morning and I woke up with a few more bug bites. This time, my mind immediately went to bed bugs. Being that I didn’t have any time to inspect the room for bugs before having to leave to get to work, I had to wait until later that day when I got home to search for any bugs. The first place that I decided to look after Googling and doing my research on bed bugs throughout the day, was behind the headboard of my bed. I had to physically lift the headboard off the wall, and sure enough, I found one bed bug in the groove of the headboard. Sure, it was only one bug, but that was enough for me. I took a picture of the bug to document the situation, along with a video to prove where I was. I then went down to the front desk to report the incident and to tell them that I was no longer going to be staying at this hotel, and that I wanted to be refunded for the nights that I had stayed, being that I had been bitten several times and shouldn’t have to deal with something like that. It’s the least they could do. I was shocked when the front desk clerk tried to hand me another key to simply go to another room, and then told me that a manager was not at the hotel to assist me with this situation. She said that there was nothing she could do, and that I’d have to deal with this once the manager returned in the morning. It was 6:30 at night at this point, and I’ve never once heard of a hotel not having someone available at all times to assist with matters like this. I worked at an Embassy Suites for 4 years and this would have NEVER flown, and was a 1^st for me. The front desk clerk also did not offer to come look at the bug, she didn’t offer to file a report, she didn’t offer to contact anyone, and she didn’t even offer an apology. So, I called Expedia to tell them that I wanted to be refunded for this stay so I could take my money and go elsewhere. Due to their policy, they had to call the hotel and ask them to refund me before they would give me any money back. Of course, once they did this, the desk clerk refused and claimed that the manager would have to help with this in the morning. Thankfully, I had a friend who was willing to come help me get all of my stuff, bag it all up to hopefully prevent any bed bugs coming along with us, and let me stay at their house that night. The next morning, I had Expedia call and speak to the manager of the hotel to ask for a refund. The manager then told them that they had their pest control come inspect the room and that they didn’t find anything, and that they were not going to refund me, despite the fact that I left two entire nights early. They explained that I must have been bitten by a flea from my dog (I don’t have a dog, I have a cat), and that any pictures that I have as evidence must be fake. I actually have a video too, but I guess they think I edited the bug in. (I also can assure you that if I wanted to go to a hotel to «pull one over» on the mgmt by faking a bed bug incident, I CERTAINLY wouldn’t choose this hotel to pull such an insane heist on. Let’s get real here.) The following day, I had Expedia try one more time to get a refund, and the same response was given to them, which was that I must be faking all of this and no refund was going to be given. The Expedia representative handling this final attempt even admitted to me that he has reason to believe that the pest control report was likely manipulated, that my photo and video evidence clearly shows at least one bed bug (I’m not going to lie and say I found a million), and that he was going to put a hold on letting anyone book rooms at this hotel because of this. Anyway, after all is said and done, I didn’t lose any money, as my landlord reimbursed me for the stay, however I am still in complete awe of the overall lack of hospitality, lack of concern, & rude and unprofessional management. A NIGHTMARE of a hotel stay.

Avoid this hotel, not worth the expensive price. Holes in sheets, hotel staff was horrible. Fire Alarm was tweeting all night, and manager did nothing to assist in solving the problem

I booked two rooms for two nights and employees arrived and were appalled. There was no one there to check them in, there were people hanging out in the parking lot like it was their «hang out spot», across the street was an emergency room, and the other corner was a cemetery. The hotel wouldn’t refund me. I feel this is completely unacceptable due to fact the hotel was beyond bearable and false advertising. Thank goodness I booked through
and they made an exception and gave me a full refund. Unilocal should offer ZERO stars because that’s exactly where the Days Inn Downtown Austin fits in!

My boyfriend and I stayed at this days inn for a few nights while we were apartment hunting in Austin. The location is pretty great being that it is right next to the freeway and Austin is a fairly small city compared to most, so it is an easy drive to downtown/​UT.
The outside is not very appealing and it can be a bit difficult to find a parking spot if you come back late. All the room doors lead to the outside, and it looks a bit run down, so we didn’t expect much. However, the room was nice, updated and clean. A good flatscreen tv, soft bed with great pillows and nice hardwood floors. You can tell that they are trying to upgrade the place.
The front desk was responsive and helpful when we called for help with our tv at midnight. The breakfast is nothing special, and if you’re expecting a nice pool, don’t, because it’s lacking. Our room was the closest to the road, so it was fairly loud, but not hard to sleep through, especially when the air conditioner is running.
Overall, I was really impressed with this hotel for the price.

If I could give this place no stars I would. While the room was decent (they put me in a newly renovated room) the hotel itself is run down and crappy. All of the rooms have outside doors so anyone off the street can walk right up to your room door. The room was sparse and the sheets were moderately clean. The hotel is located along a major freeway and gives it an U surpass creepy feel. Honestly I checked in, went into my room and walked out and stayed some place else. Even though it’s cheap it’s not worth it.

We decided to save some money on our trip and stay at the Days Inn, and after the cleaning person cleaned our room, she left the door open. For 12 hours. I was furious! Nothing was stolen (thank god we put our valuables in the safe) but our things had been rifled through. To make matters worse, the two front desk attendants I spoke with were completely apathetic. I eventually talked them into refunding the night and cancelled the remainder of the reservation, but I had to jump through hoops. I won’t be using their motel chain again.

Days Inn is a fairly simple hotel but one for a very good price and includes breakfast. Cleaning service was consistent. Definitely have to take a cab to downtown areas. There are some cool restaurants and bars only two blocks away.

I stayed here while visiting Austin… there was a cheap Groupon deal that I snagged. Here is the short and sweet: it is more of a motel that is situated under a highway overpass. Though the room and bedding were clean and neat and the front desk service was nice, I did not feel safe walking to my room at night. This is not to say there was anything to substantiate my fears but considering I was traveling alone, the location under a highway, the motel setup, the dark corner in which my room was tucked… these were all reasons why I quickened my steps up the stairs and rushed to my room. Also, though I walked to and from Downtown, this location is NOT downtown. Shell out the extra couple of bucks and stay closer to the action.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights for a long weekend to go to a Longhorns game. From the minute we checked in, our window a/​c unit (yes, WINDOW A/​C UNIT) in our room clicked loudly and continuously. When I complained and asked for someone to fix it since we had already unpacked, the desk representative offered to move us to a different room with lesser amenities. Next, the bedding was awful (our bed didn’t even have a fitted sheet on it). The microwave is ancient and has to be at least 20 years old. The shower has horrible water pressure to the point that conditioner would not wash out of my hair. The promised «free HD HBO» is non-​existent as well. The only nice thing about staying here is the close proximity to UT. On top of all of that, the hotel is right next to the main highway and is extremely loud at night. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Stayed for 5 nights. The staff was nice and attentive. We kept the do not disturb sign up, but when I called for housekeeping service, they came quickly and were thorough. The pool was clean. The room itself was nice, seemed recently renovated in comparison to the outside. Parking is a bit tight. 24 hr café on site. My only complaint is that after housekeeping left, on one occasion, they failed to properly close the room door. Our room was left open for hours with total access to our belongings, including laptop and jewelry and medical equipment. Luckily for us, and for Days Inn, nothing was missing.

Days Inn isn’t a place I had expected much from. What sucks is that it did not live up to my already low expectations.
I get to my room, a/​c is off and he window is wide open. It is over 100 degrees outside! And even hotter in my room now!
They advertise free wi-​fi. Nope. Ok, well yes they do have wi-​fi and its free. But it only seems to work in he office. I tried on my ipad and cell. Nothing. I walk over to the office, stand right outiside the door, nothing. I step inside and it works immediately. Im not here on vacation, I am here in Austin for some job interviews and to interview potential roommates, so craigslist and email are a must. The office employee is less than enthusiastic to help, just shrugs it off. Its very obvious that he doesn’t care.
The room itself is good size, bed is medium comfy. I checked for bedbugs, none! The towels dont match, my shower was only slighhtly clean…
And it is not in downtown. It maybe close to downtown, but definitely not IN downtown like I thought. Sigh…

Came for SXSW and all the hotels were sold out so the four of us had to make do with one room. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable with a constant supply of blankets and towels.

Although I was unpleasantly surprised to find that this hotel did not offer shuttles from the airport only after I landed (Expedia had assured me it did), the staff on the phone was very friendly to help find me alternatives.
When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly front desk, and the place appeared to be very clean. Although the location is next to the freeway, it is pretty darn quiet once you close the door and windows. It’s very close to the University of Texas (10 minute walk, 5 minutes waiting for pedestrian lights to change), with nice little restaurants nearby. Complimentary breakfast was great, and the rooms are fantastic.
For the price, you really can’t get better than this.

Stayed here for a night only and not bad for a pretty cheap place. Room is clean. Shower head works and doesn’t skimp on the water. Pillows are soft enough that they don’t flatten out completely when laying down. A/​c was practically blasting when we came in so the room was cold enough. Only complaint is bed was too soft for me and I kept waking up in the night cuz my back hurt.
It’s right next to the highway too but I would say it’s still pretty quiet. You can hear cars driving by but it’s not so loud that I wasn’t able to sleep. Plenty of parking spaces if you have a car. If you just need a clean place to stay and don’t care about the fanciness then this is good.

I stayed here the same time as my sister (Olivia C.) and i thought the place was OK. It is not a classy place but it is fine for what you pay for and should expect for your money.
It has been remodeled/​updated since the 2007 review.

I stayed here for four days. It was nothing special, but it was cheap. I thought it was fairly clean and well maintained. When we pulled in, I saw the pool and was pretty happy to see that. But on the night i went to check it out, the health department had closed it down, umm, what?
It is what it is, a cheap clean place to stay. And the seedless star café right in front was very convenient.

Hey Staff … cockroaches are NOT crickets. I travel a lot and this was the second worst hotel/​motel experience I’ve ever had. The Super 8 in Fairfield, CA that rented my room out for an hour before I arrived and then let me check in to step barefoot on a pile of wet stickiness and pull the sheets back to condom wrappers and what I’m hoping were chocolate stains, barely beats it.
Despite what they tell you and what the website says, they aren’t anywhere close to downtown Austin. I can understand how they might be confused … 3 phone calls and 45 minutes later, they were still unable to direct us to the hotel.
Our non-​smoking room reeked of smoke, the air conditioner didn’t work well, the carpet was wet, there were holes punched into our walls, oh, and did I mention the cockroaches?
The staff was also incompetent. I wanted to check out early and I was told to come back later. What the?
I finally learned my lesson. I’ll never skimp on a hotel again.
