I love dub academy! It’s where I had my first experience with scratching/dj’ing and I’ve been doing it ever since. They have the best, most knowledgeable instructors, and you will learn more than you ever expected. Great business, great group of people

If you have an itch you need to scratch… and that itch is to hone your DJ skillset, then you can «baby scratch» your way into ATX nightlife stardom!
Or of your like me and the only way you drop sick beats is throwing records on ground, this is still an awesome place to get your turntable learning on!
I came in to audit an intro class here one evening and it was the most fun I ever had learning how to do something waaay out of my knowledge and comfort arenas.
The equipment here is state the art and each station has dual turntables and a mac so you can track your beats and your progress. The instructors are not only pros in the business, but their passion is contagious!
They are a non-​profit and work with a lot of youth programs, which I think is awesome for community engagement and being another fantastic Eastside staple only adds to the character of this place!
By the end of the class, I was not only simon-​says baby scratching on both turntables, but felt like I could walk out and confidently nickname myself DJ Madame Magic Touch!

This place is one of the reasons I feel lucky to live in ATX. I could make this review super long and go on and on about how great this place is for several different reasons but since it is summer, I will narrow it down to the kid’s summer camp. My son is currently enrolled in a summer camp here and not only does he love it, but it is worth every penny! Parents, you feel me. How many times have you paid for a summer camp only to hear complaints from your kids about going to camp or just mediocre reviews from your kids when you pick them up? Well, not here. My son is having an absolute blast. Every employee I have come in contact with from the Dub Academy have been kind and knowledgable. I have to give a special nod to Payton, who is directing the camp my son is currently in. What a nice guy! Super patient and just pleasant to speak with. I highly recommend any of the summer camps for kids.

This place is [ENTER CURRENT POSITIVE DJ SUPERLATIVE SLANG HERE] DJ school I’ve ever been to. (illest? dopest?). OK, it’s the only one I’ve ever been to, but I can’t imagine it getting much better.
I only took a 90 minute course so I can’t really comment on their 5 week training courses but based on my sampling (hey-​oh!) I would expect it to be a pretty great experience. My teacher was easy-​going and didn’t make me feel like an idiot when I couldn’t baby scratch better then… well…a baby and he was able to get out quite a bit of information in just a short time. The equipment was all well kept and the space was well thought out and made it easy to learn.
He also let us have 15 minutes at the end to just do whatever we wanted, which for me was basically massacring LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest but I didn’t care cuz it was a ton of fun.
It looks like they run a lot of deals (currently there’s even a Unilocal one) so you can get a taste of DJing for very little investment. Who knows, you could be the next big thing. But even if you don’t really enjoy it or if you’re straight up terrible at it, you’ll definitely gain a greater appreciation for those that can do this and I think that’s worth something.
So what are you waiting for? Drop what you’re doing and go drop da bass. BWWWAAAWWAAAWAA

Yo Unilocalurrrs! Kosher Cohen over here. This just in… DUB ACADEMY IS THE ISH! My instructor, KID SLYCE, is mad dope! I took Traktor 101 and now I am in 102 and taking Abelton as well. When you get to Dub, tell them you gotta have KID SLYCE– best instructor eva eva. Real Talk!

Shane, a.k.a. Shark Week is a great bud and a great teacher. I have been taking private lessons with him and he has helped me push past my frustrations and has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and really start to explore all aspects of Djing.

Love this place! Can’t wait to go back. Took the 101 class and look forward to starting 102. Didn’t know ANYTHING about DJ’ing walking into the class and walked out confident about hopping right into the 102 course! Thanks DJ Sharkweek!
Classes have a max of 6 students. My 101 class only had 4. So we didn’t have to fight so much for the instructor (s) when we had questions or needed help or just needed to know if we were doing things right!

The place is by far great. I came into the DJ world hoping for guidelines on how to really get good at what i do, and they surpassed that experience by far. Fantastic set up!

I moved to Austin and started taking classes here and I was hooked. The people who work here and the teachers are not only really cool, but they seriously know their stuff. Being able to learn from DJs who have been doing it for a long time and still love what they do is so awesome. They love watching us learn and pour their knowledge out in every class. Also, don’t let the name fool you. They know, support and appreciate a ton of genres, so don’t see it and think «dubstep school»!
I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking about DJing to check this place out. Even if you just love music and want to try something new, take the first course and see how great it is! I never expected to do as much as I have with them. I’m currently taking my fifth course overall and every one of them has exceeded my expectations.

The future of music is will in Remixes… taking yours and others music and reformatting into something that sounds totally different… and DUB Academy is the boom in learning how to do that. Austin being the progressive, musical hub that it is, is well deserving of a music school that puts passion and creativity before profits & PNLs. The people who run this establishment, all professional DJs themselves, have a true passion and love for music that shy’s away from the corporate methodology to create an extremely progressive and personal learning environment.
On top of being an amazing school, Dub Academy also stands behind local musicians and has thrown some amazingly progressive shows & events (that I’ve personally attended) to showcase talent, and to create a community around learning, progress, and creativity.

I usually do not spend time writing reviews but I do read them and value them for helping me make good decisions based on real people using real services. I was reading an article in the Austin Chronicle about a DJ school that opened in Austin. My son has been interested in music and producing and DJ’ing for a few years. So I thought I would visit the school and see if it was something that may interest my son and to see if it was legitimate. I must say they were not only professional and courteous-​but-​they were open for me to actually watch a class and let me see what they do. They have it set up like a lab with your own DJ set up at each «lab» table. The class I watched had a girl that was 25 ish and 3 guy’s in the age rage from 18-​to 35. My son is 14. I was concerned about everyone learning at the same pace. But was re assured that they pay close attention and even offer «lab» time for each student. Well, my son just finished his DJ 101 course class and he performed a 10 minute SET at graduation and was AWESOME! I could not believe the skills he picked up in his first course class. I have already signed him up for the second course and he cant wait. And I appreciated the fact the teacher answered questions and the owner even spent time explaining things to me and re assuring me that they would make every effort to make my son successful.

I got Serato a year ago and went to most of the clubs in Austin’s club district looking for a coach. All the DJs I met were snobs and withholding of information, as though they had a secret they didn’t want to share.
My wife introduced me to Miles and DubAcademy. Everyone I have worked with at Dub Academy treats every action they perform as an art form. Whether they are setting up gear, teaching classes, assisting Miles or performing, they act with excellence.
I have found them to be extremely generous with their time and assets as well. Their classes are well organized, entertaining, informative and the instructors are quite encouraging.
I am also impress at how many people they have been able to support in the DJ industry. For anyone who has a dream of being able to «make it» as a DJ… these guys can help.
