Description

Specialties

The New Movement is a improv and sketch comedy training center and live theater. Our teachers have trained hundreds of comedians, actors, writers and creatives all over the country. All of our shows are free or cheap.

TNM alumni have toured the country, headlined comedy festivals and become TNM faculty themselves. The opportunities The New Movement is able to give to the student base is unprecedented.

History

Established in 2009.

Chris and Tami moved to Austin, TX in 2005 after starting their improv career in New Orleans. After teaching students the basics of improv at a variety of theaters in Austin, they finally opened their own venue, The New Movement, which focused on a specific style of improv comedy.

In just under 3 years, The New Movement was able to expand to a large downtown location where, aside form its nightly programming and classes, it also produces several comedy festivals like Hell Yes Fest, The Megaphone Marathons, and the first of its kind Improv Wins Conference. TNM also co-produces shows/workshops within large annual events such as Moontower, FunFunFun Fest, Austin Film Fest, and SXSW.

In 2011 Chris and Tami relocated back home to New Orleans where they’ve opened TNM Nola, creating a mind-blowing, flourishing artistic community that was sorely needed there. Now, both TNM cities continue to gain national recognition as vibrant comedy scenes and TNM is happy to be a part of that movement.
