Description

Specialties

Based in Austin, Texas, and hosting retreats and workshops both locally and abroad, Experience Shakti is women-centered yoga for yoga-centered women.

Our purpose and our passion is to host evolutionary women’s yoga retreats and workshops that create community, support renewal and celebrate the Shakti in every yogini. When we immerse ourselves in communities of women with a clear intention of honest expression, self-discovery and celebration, the effect is healing and empowering. We are devoted to creating space for women to cultivate connection, empowerment, humor, spontaneity and spiritual growth.

History

Established in 2008.

We are mothers, yoga teachers, yoga students and spiritual seekers. We meet daily the challenges of yogic living in a world where we have many shoes to fill (and tie).

As women, we believe that there is a need for us to have a space that is all our own. A space where we can momentarily let go of the myriad roles we play, shuck off our shoes and shed our outer selves. When we step into a circle of women where we can each openly share our experiences, give and receive wisdom, laugh or cry with abandon, the effect is both healing and empowering.

We began Experience Shakti to help create that circle — we hope you’ll join us.

Experience Shakti is Jenn Wooten and Maricarmen Wilson

Maricarmen

Maricarmen’s teaching practice is based on the Zen philosophy of keeping the open mind of a beginner. In her 15 years of study and 10 years of instructing, she has been inspired and guided by her Iyengar, Jivamukti, Prajna, Anusara and Ashtanga teachers. Her Vinyasa Flow Yoga classes are a reflection of her commitment to remain awake, curious and self-aware in one’s practice. She lives her yoga with her husband and three beautiful boys.

Jenn

Jenn’s yoga roots are planted in both the Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga lineages. She draws from these foundations to create a Vinyasa Flow Yoga style that cultivates strength, grace, fun and freedom of expression. Her classes are dynamic, powerful, feminine and spontaneous. Jenn has an academic background in anatomy and physiology and over 1500 hours of advanced study. Her yoga practice and her family are the glue that hold her life together and she is grateful for both.
