JP has retained these two leadership principles and integrated them into Five Stone’s culture. Services were okay. But I was overcharged horrendously for every service I used. Had I gone with them this year for my taxes I would have paid $ 1500 more than the new tax preparers that I’ve signed up with (who actually know more about my business). Plus, I paid at least $ 1400 too much for the formation of my LLC. It also took 6 months and several emails before they responded to my queries. I do not recommend.

Karen paid excellent attention to my property tax situation. Five Stone lowered my tax bill significantly. A representative from Five Stone held a seminar at a local real estate office near my home and walked everyone through the process of disputing their tax bill. He shared all of their tips and tricks that they use. He also explained that professional firms that dispute tax bills have a significantly higher success rate than individuals who dispute their own bills. Highly recommend.

Five Stone Tax Advisers helped me more than I thought was ever possible. My original tax liability was a little over $ 63,000 and I just got the Offer In Compromise letter from the IRS that says the negotiated settlement is a whopping $ 50.00. What?! Yes, $ 50.00. Christine was great to work with and I couldn’t be happier!

5 Stones handled my corporate and personal tax returns for 2014.
Unfortunately, my 2014 personal tax returns were NEVER filed with the IRS!
I didn’t discover the error until my daughter’s financial aid package was rejected because they never recieved the 2014 personal tax transcripts. When I contacted 5 Stones they confirmed that my taxes hadn’t been filed. After several calls and emails, I realized how incompetent this firm is.
Even though, I met with Jason Taylor on several occasions, information was not recorded correctly.
I am now questioning whether my returns were handled correctly.
I am forced to hire another firm to audit my tax returns prepared by this firm.
I do NOT recommend this firm.

If you have the time to gather comps you can do just as well if not better yourself. Five Stone really disappointed me with the secretive nature and only getting a 5% reduction when I got 10% the year before by myself.
Its impossible to know for sure because they don’t share any information with you, but my guess is that they are relying on personal relationships inside the appraisal district inside of hard data.
You as an individual can drive around the neighbor and take pictures of other houses and explain why the appraisal district is wrong. As a company Five Stone just doesn’t have the resources to do that.
In short if you are willing to give up complete control of the process and being stuck with the results then Five Stone is a good choice. I’m not satisfied.

This year I decided to use 5 stone. Prior to contacting 5 stone I contested the Austin tax rate and received a slightly reduced rate. 5 stone was able to reduce the rate slightly more than this, but after paying them their fee I broke even. I can’t really say I’ve experienced better as this is the first time I’ve used a tax representative, but I’m not impressed.

I’m sure this is a great group of lawyers but my experience is that they didn’t lower my property tax burden any more than I could have myself. You see, I live in Williamson County and during the appeal period I visited the tax office in person and they offered to lower my tax burden somewhat. Thinking that I’d do better with a lawyer, I turned it down and requested the services of Five Stone. They ended up getting the same offer that I turned down but now, I have to pay for it, instead of getting it for free if I would have accepted the county’s initial offer. I guess that’s the risk you take, there are no guarantees. I don’t begrudge them for billing me but I may think twice next time.

I highly recommend Brian Mueller, Director of Income Tax and his firm, Five Stones, as they are very knowledgeable, responsive and proactive towards reducing tax liability. They are also very easy to work with. The support of his team is also very key.

The Five Stone team recognized several different opportunities to save me money on my tax return, none of which were illegal or even aggressive – simply missed opportunities that my CPA never looked for. I bought a house in east Austin a year and a half ago. This past year, I saw my property appraisal jump by a significant margin and with that, my estimated taxes due jump by a large amount.
A friend of mine recommended using Five Stone Tax to try to argue against the increase. I went online, filled out a quick form, and submitted the form within 10 minutes. The end result was that the increase was contested and my appraised value decreased by $ 25,000 thus saving me quite a substantial amount in taxes.
The process of contesting your taxes through Five Stone Tax is incredibly easy and cost-​effective. Highly recommended!

I have been working with with Tax Tiger (property tax) and Five Stone Tax for 5 years now. They have helped me with everything from property tax reduction/​dispute to annual tax preparation and formation of LLC. I have worked with John Paul and Paul Dorries and both have been very knowledgeable, trustworthy, efficient and available anytime I have questions — which is often, especially when establishing my small business. The entire office staff is very friendly and accommodating, which makes it a bit easier when you are dealing with taxes! Being new to the homeownership game here in Austin, I was pretty surprised when my property taxes jumped up so much. My escrow was drained and I didn’t know what to do about it. My friend recommended I check these guys out, and I’m glad he did.

Yes, third time these guys have successfully appealed our property taxes for us. Easy. Why leave it to my chances, right? I think biggest mistake owners make is thinking they know what the best comps are in their neighborhood and then they show up at their appeal and the panel rejects the comps or, worse yet, the comps actually hurt your value. And I am a licensed Realtor and know how to pick comps … I want these guys on my team and recommend them to my friends and clients all the time. I like working with these guys and will use them again next year.

They performed as promised and got valuation drops on both of my properties. My rental property was the most affected, over 10% change in valuation!
