Gold’s Gym

I love the classic gym vibe of this gym. The staff, members and music are always lifting me up and improving my experience while training. The equipment is mostly up to date and not worn too badly, just enough so it has character to it. Their functional area has great equipment and lots of space, which I love because I do some crazy warmup routines. Powerlifting platform is pretty awesome too, and plenty of bumper weights as opposed to some other locations. Check ‘em out and you won’t be sorry!

My trainer was on time very nice very knowledgeable about what I will need to do to meet my weight-​loss challenge all I have is 12 weeks so I will be doing a lot of praying and eating right and working out 2 times a day. Love all my Unilocal friends

The front desk people are pretty much non existent. They leave the front Door unattended, so anybody can walk in, member or not a member.
They don’t greet anybody or say bye have a nice day, or even smile. I walked in and out without even being noticed by them. They were just talking to each other completely ignoring the one thing they should be doing.
I saw a guy waiting five minutes just to buy a drink from behind the counter. Because all of a sudden they were busy doing something That was Sooo important he had to wait.
Your Job seriously isn’t that hard. Stop sucking at it.
Also why is the heater blasting in my face while I’m working out? It was so hot towards the back of the gym it was unbearable.
Seriously considering a planet fitness membership instead. Every time I’ve visited them. they ALWAYS greet and make me feel welcome. They may not have as updated machines but at least they acknowledge me.
Plus they’re 4 times cheaper!

Everything you need — lots of competitors at this gym. Love it! The only thing I’d say needs improvement is the wifi connection and the stairsteppers keep breaking down :(

This Gold’s is disgusting. The showers (and shower curtains) are covered in mildew and the restrooms are probably straightened (not cleaned, mind you) once a day. This is the least updated golds in the Austin area. I think people should pay less a month if that’s the gym they’re forced to go to based on proximity. I’m trying to get cute for pool parties this summer and would like to work out on my lunch breaks but if this Gold’s is the closest to my work, I might just switch to 24 hour fitness.

If you are considering a membership at Gold’s Gym please be aware that their business practices concerning memberships and renewals are both poorly managed and setup in a manner as to only greatly increase cost to the client.
I have been a member of Gold’s Gym for 10 years and have had two instances of poor service concerning renewal.
Warning! Do not ever get a family plan with anyone.
After being a member of Gold’s Gym for five years I added my significant other to my account and when we separated I had to renew my contract at a 30% higher new member rate. This issue would also arise if you were transitioning children off of your account when they go to college, for example.
Always opt to get individual accounts over group accounts as families are dynamic but Gold’s Gym membership policies do not allow for this.
Warning! When taking maternity leave make sure to check the status of your gym membership.
Recently I had my first child and was at home for three months on maternity leave; my membership lapsed during this time. No one notified me of this even when I was at the gym. I received no mailer, no email, no call, no notification even though I was at the gym during that time. I was only notified 2 weeks after my 90 day window to renew had lapsed. The rate they offered was 30% higher than my previous rate. I have elected to not renew.
Gold’s gym is extremely disorganized with their management practices; they do not keep records of when members are contacted or details concerning on-​going issues. They have very poor administration tools and claim to have no obligation to alert a member to when their contract has lapsed. They only do so after grace periods have lapsed as to only offer higher, significantly higher rates.

This is more of an old school oriented Golds Gym but that just fine with me. The Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It does lack a cardio cinema so long bouts of cardio are somewhat of a struggle. But the free wifi helps out with this. The equipment is well maintained and superb.

Favorite place to work out is right here. Just the lay out is great. There’s a sauna for girls and guys. Usually very clean bathrooms. Love the treadmills. But it’s obviously a lot of people’s favorite place to go. It gets really packed around 5ish that’s why its best to go super early or right before bed. It’s always fun to feel like you have the place to yourself: p

Good gym with a great kids club.
The kids club is not the biggest or best equipped but Brianna (who runs the kids club) is simply amazing! I have attended this location for over a year and have been to 4 other location… None better!

In terms of fancy gyms this isn’t it. I have been to some nice gyms and sports clubs and this lack some of the amenities, BUT, in terms of being good at what it is-​a gym-​I actually really love going here. The people are usually friendly and willing to share machines. There is a lot of equipment so you rarely have to wait on them and there is a large variety of equipment. When I go workout I like to just put my head down and work, or grunt or whatever and nobody looks at you crazy. Overall, I would recommend this location to anyone that just wants that weight room feeling in a franchise gym.

Not as glamorous as the tech ridge location but the trainers are awesome and the equipment is pretty good. I love the treadmill with the track simulation. You feel like you are really on a track and can have a visual of your journey. They have the best service. Very friendly staff that makes it a point to get to know their members by name.

I’ve been a member at other gyms in town. I’m not normally a Goldilocks (haha, Gold), but some were too big, some too small, some too meat market-​y, some with limited hours… you get the picture. I was looking for extended hours and close to my home, but I wanted to like the equipment and being there! The staff is fabulous. I signed up with Anthony at the gym and he follows up every few weeks or when I run into him there. I did sign up for training sessions, because I wanted a second set of eyes to watch me and help guide my training with accomodations made for a serious spinal injury. My trainer, Emily, has worked really, really hard to make sure we work on strengthening without injuring. I love it there! I would recommend joining to anybody… although in truth, I don’t know if I want everyone to know about this gem of a gym.

Best Gold’d in the Austin area, especially with the remodel (sorry, downtown locale! But who wants to pay to park downtown?). It’s no fancy mega gym. It’s more old school, but clean, friendly – everything you need.
To the haters who have problems with the corporate aspect or contracts – please post review on the corp location Golds. All chain gym contracts are built to keep you paying for a duration even if you don’t want it – it’s a contract. You have to tell yourself «I’m doing this two years minimum» before signing. For $ 35 a month, I’m honestly not complaining.

What a SCAM. I am trying to talk to a manager at corp and yet the operator would not transfer me whatsoever. I was polite and asked to simply talked to someone above her. This is when she got rude. Telling me that just because I don’t like the answer I don’t need to talk to a manager. I told her that now I wanted to talk to a supervisor because she was rude, so she told me I can write into the corp office. RIDICULOUS! DO NOT JOIN

I really like this gym. My husband and I have been working out here since 2007. It’s definitely not a state of the art, high tech, fancy gym. However, I think some of the previous reviewers should go check it out again as in the past couple of years the place has gotten a bit of a face lift and the staff has changed a lot as well.
Recently, a «newer» manager, Nick, has helped to make a lot of cool changes including an Olympic weights area and platform, and Strongman and Max competitions and workouts. The trainers now at this location are extremely knowledgeable and really helpful even if you don’t buy sessions. They know their stuff and really want to help. I think Howard is a body genius. He honestly seems to know all about the how, what and why to get the results you want.
I can’t say enough about the kids’ club. Brianna is the sweetest most caring person I know. Of course, my children are perfect angels but anyone able to keep that many little ones happy and entertained all while keeping a smile on her face is a saint in my book…
Now my response to the dirty comments. I workout from about noon to 2 and there are two maintenance staff there at that time every day and I see them getting areas I wouldn’t have thought about. I think the issue is that this gym is old. They get new equipment all the time and I think they are in pretty good shape these days but the building itself is just old and you can clean it, install new floors, paint the walls but you just can’t make old new again, believe me… I’ve tried!
So to conclude (finally!) I think previous reviewers should check this location out again. I know I sound pretty biased but I really think they are in a great place now and I personally, really enjoy showing up every day.

Always love GG, they have good down times when it’s not busy, new renovations, and always helpful.

If you’re the kind of person that wants a super fancy state of the art gym with pools and cardio cinemas, this is probably not the gym for you. BUT if you’re the kind of person that enjoys a small & cozy gym with friendly people and not too many weirdos staring at you, this might be the place to go. I really enjoy this gym, as there are plenty of TVs and fans, up-​to-​date cardio equiptment, and plenty of TVs set to different channels. Plus the music is WAY better than the Gold’s on Ben White.
Good Things:
— Lots of parking
— 3 rows of treadmills and plenty of ellipticals, I never have a problem finding a machine
— TVs everywhere
— Magazine rack with a take one /​leave one attitude
— Super friendly front desk staff
— Kind of a weird layout that allows for «rooms,» so everyone is not in the same room staring at each other
— There are handful of very strange people at this gym and makes for good people watching
Bad Things:
— It kind of smells like gerbils
— People don’t seem to clean their machines at this gym nearly as much as at past gyms I’ve been to, and there’s not really anyone on duty ²⁴⁄₇ walking around cleaning them as far as I can tell
— Theres only one row machine and it looks like it’s from the 1970s
— One of the TVs by the treadmills is always on FOX news

This location is convenient to my workplace so occasionally I will stop in before heading home, which is after 7 so I have never had to deal with massive crowds. Sometimes it’s freezing cold, but I guess it’s better than burning up. The machines always seem to be in working order and in general the facilities are clean.
I liked attending kickboxing (Sunday) and zumba (Thursday), but the room where classes are held is poorly maintained. The laminate flooring bulges in some areas near the entry way which is probably dangerous. Sunday morning parking is a bit messy too as the parking lot appears to be shared with a church.
I have been with Gold’s for three years now and the only complaint I have for all of the locations in my vicinity is regarding the class schedule. I love taking classes, but unfortunately because of my work schedule I am limited to classes on Sunday and Monday. This location is the only one (at least up north/​central) that offers a class at 8 p.m. on Mondays (which would work well if I didn’t have Mondays off).
In all, it’s been a pretty positive experience.

This is the butthole of Gold’s Gyms. Traditionalists might beg to differ, but they’d be begging a while before I’d agree with them. Because I’ve made up my mind. I’m keeping my baby. Whatever.
Anyway, torn up floors, dirty, and poorly ventilated — and effing smelly. The weights in the classes are stupid: I had a friend complain that several were leaking sand, thereby messing up her ability to gauge improvement and follow goals. They told her they weren’t accountable for that and she should just not use the sand-​leaking ones. Kind of like when a chick gets silicone implants, and they start leaking, and the doctors are like, we’re not accountable for leakages. I don’t actually know what that whole interaction is like first-​hand, but it must suck.
Jessica V is the saving grace of the gym. She orchestrates a painful lifting class at 6 on some mornings. In order to keep us awake, she tells embarrassing stories about her life, which we can relate to. Usually. Her dry humor is the only thing that gets me through the door. It’s definitely not the décor, I can tell you that.
2 stars = I’ve experienced better. That’s pretty accurate: better, cleaner, less stinky.
