I had the most stress-​free and informative visits with Dr. April Harris yesterday.
My insurance changed and I had to find another doctor for my annual well woman exam. Upon reading all the positive Unilocal reviews, I chose to schedule an appointment with Dr. Harris at Gynics. She was booked out a couple of weeks, which I did not mind, but it is something to consider if you are expecting a same-​week appointment.
Check-​in was easy, and wait time was minimal. Her nurse (or tech) was really great, as well. She made me feel very comfortable. I am a naturally anxious person, so I’m one of those people that hate waiting for the doctor alone in the exam room, but I didn’t have to wait long before the doctor arrived.
Dr. Harris is extremely knowledgeable, and has a very warm personality. She immediately put me at ease and addressed all my concerns thoroughly. She cleared up any confusion I had with my birth control, and sent me out with a three month sample, as well as more information than I have ever received from my previous doctors.
I highly recommend this office, and Dr. Harris. She is wonderful and I would continue to see her even if/​when my insurance is no longer accepted at that office.

I have been seeing Dr Harris for a few years now. I really enjoy her bedside manner. She is patient and never minds discussing any questions I have. The three stars are in regards to the ladies that check you in. They are always cold and they gossip and talk bad about patients that they talk to on the phone, but I can hear them as I wait in the lobby. Very uninviting and rude.

I love Dr Robert Crumb but man, I hate the way gynics works! I always wait between 30 minutes to 90 minutes to see him. He is always over booked! I really don’t want to have to leave him b cause he really is an amazing OB and his nurse Sabrina is amazing too. Waiting around like that when you’re hormonal and pregnant and then when you have a small baby is just not on! What makes it even worse is that I had an appointment scheduled at 15:30 and gynics called me to see if I could come through to an earlier appointment at 14:45. I arrived before time and ended up only seeing Dr Crumb at 15:30? Why ask me to come earlier? Very frustrating!

I was seeing Dr Harris for about 4 years, and she was always amazing– professional, calm, thorough. I really felt like she genuinely cared about me as a patient. She also sucessfully removed a large ovarian cyst for me through laparoscopic surgery (through my belly button) and left me scarless– it was perfect.
Dr Crumb is also wonderful. Very smart, articulate and calm– even though I’d never seen a male GYN, his manner immediately put me at ease. There was no issue at all. I also saw Dr DeLeon, and found her to be just as wonderful as Dr Crumb and Harris.
Dr Harris’ nurse Jamie is amazing as well– she’s a great right hand for Dr Harris, always responsive and friendly, even if you’re calling her every week with a question.
When I got pregnant a year ago, I really wanted a birthing center, completely natural experience, as opposed to a hospital birth for my first child. I transferred out to a well-​known and locally prestigious OBGYN practice with an in-​house birthing center. Terrible decision. I really wish I could turn back the clock. I really felt like a number there, and should have known when I experienced consistently long waits and disconnects in communication between the doctors there (who worked in group)… fast forward:
I ended up having what was likely an unnecessary and rough c-​section with that practice, due to some complications and a bit of fear-​mongering from one of their younger and more surgery-​happy doctors who was on call that evening. Turns out birthing «philosophies» vary by doctor, and not practice. Even if the c-​section had been very clearly necessary, I would have preferred to have been in Dr Harris’ kind care. The Dr at the other practice didn’t even come see me (or call my hospital room?!) after surgery to talk to me or check up on me! Awful. I won’t go into the other details, but I was pretty emotionally scarred by the experience, and have had a hard time making peace with it.
Lesson learned, sadly at the cost of a terrible birth experience I will never forget. I plan on returning to Dr Harris’ practice, and hopefully giving birth again, the way I had hoped, or at least with a good feeling that we tried.

I came across some of the most unprofessional doctors I have ever encountered. Dr. Uyrudia was so unprofessional and completely refused a dire medication that she had prescribed. Now, I have to go without medication until I find a medical doctor. How is that for treating a patient? It’s now my word against hers. This is awful!

I really loved Gynics. Dr. April Harris was calm, thorough, and practical. Her nurse, Jamie, was bubbly, professional and attentive. Compared with other doctors, this is the MOST RESPONSIVE office or Doctor/​Nurse team I’ve ever dealt with. They feed into St. David’s which means you have the best NICU around. I also met with other doctors in the practice and my favorites were DeLeon and Crum.
The only reason I’ll switch with my next pregnancy is that I live in Kyle, ended up on bed rest, and found it difficult for my family to be so far from home. My next doctor will be one that serves Seton Hays in Kyle.

I can only say that Dr. Delia deLeon was amazing for my new patient experience. She was focused and listened patiently to my concerns. Her explanations for her philosophy were genuine and patient oriented.

Dr. Harris and her nurse Jamie are the best ever! I cannot say enough great things about them. Dr. Harris takes her time and really listens to her patients. She is straight forward but is very caring and you know her recommdations and care is very genuine. My delivery was a great experience and it was hugely in part to her! Jamie her nurse is like no nurse you will ever get anywhere else. She is always available, you will never feel like you are bothering her (even if you call 100xs a week like I did) she even would text me through my pregnancy to see how I was feeling… what other dr office would do that! I love them and will never go anywhere else! If you are looking for an awesome dr and nurse look no further, Dr. Harris and Jamie are it!!!

across the street from the Hancock shopping center next to the uhaul storage building. has its own parking lot. the staff is very nice and will take the time to answer all your questions or concerns. everything is was pretty clean, from all the funny clippings around you can tell those folks have a sense of humor. i felt pretty comfortable throughout my visit. i will be returning for all my lady dr health needs.

I love my OB at Gynics Associates! I’ve been seeing Dr. Harris since 2008. She delivered my daughter a few years ago and I will continue to see her for as long as I live in Austin. She’s very friendly, takes great care and concern for every issue I bring up and she’s a delightful person to interact with. The office is kid friendly, if you have to bring them…, and the staff is pleasant. They seem to have had the same front desk staff for as long as I’ve been there. It’s nice to see the employee turn over rate low. Dr. Harris and her staff makes the experience there as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Definitely worth the drive from northwest Austin! I’ve recommended her to several of my friends who will agree with all of my comments!

I like Dr. Crumb, but I think the staff could be better trained. I was getting my first-​ever IUD and I heard there was a lot of pain and certain things about when I should schedule the procedure so the process would be easier, but when I called and asked questions, I got the impression that I was better informed that the staff.
For example, I asked if I should have someone drive me home. She said, no, that the pain wouldn’t start immediately. Well, on the way home, I got nauseous, everything went white and hazy, and I had to pull over because I was fainting in my car. And the pain was EXCRUCIATING right away and leveled out to just painful by the time I left the office. Then I had to be carried from the car once I did get home. After about 2 hours, I was able to walk again. I realize that might not be normal, but I read it’s not exactly rare, either.
Scheduling and checking in was also a bit more messy than other places I’ve gone.
When the doctor came in for the procedure, he asked if I’d taken ibuprofen, as though someone should have recommended this to me. No one had told me, so he gave me some, but it was too late to help the discomfort of the insertion.
Dr. Crumb himself is very kind, doesn’t seem rushed, answers all your questions and always has a nurse in the room when you are in anyway disrobed. He also very thoroughly explained my contraceptive options. He gets a four or five star, while his staff unfortunately earned about two.
I also think it is weird and oddly insulting that one of the exam rooms has young celebrities on the ceiling to stare at during your exam. Some of my friends disagreed, but, well, it’s just a thing I thought was worth mentioning. It was a nurse’s idea, apparently, not the doc, which made me feel slightly better about it.

TLDR; was somehow prescribed menopause medication (3 times more hormones than my normal medication AND 8 times more expensive at a whooping $ 300 for just 3 months, mind you) even though I’m in my early 20s. How do professional doctors make a mistake like that, especially when I wrote down the name of the medication I have been taking for 2 years with great results, AND they confirmed verbally the drug name during my appointment?! **EDIT: Just found out my actual medication is $ 46.
Had an annual exam here last week, and the appointment seemed to go well with Dr. Urrutia. I needed a refill on a prescription that I have been taking for two years, with good results, and I wrote down the name of the drug on the new patient questionnaire — very clearly and legibly, in two separate locations. At the end of the appointment, the doctor confirmed the name of the drug and said, «Alright, I’ve sent your electronic prescription to the pharmacy, you’re good to go.»
Called the pharmacy, and they said they had to specially order in my prescription and it would take a week, which seemed strange to me, because it’s a pretty common drug… So 5 days later, I go to the pharmacy, pick up my medication, and turns out the prescription is a completely different drug than what the doctor confirmed: 8 times more expensive, and used solely for menopause, according to the drug specifications sheet. I’m in my 20s… clearly not anywhere near menopause, I hope. So I just spent $ 300 on 3 months of medication that I can’t take, and now I’m pretty alarmed because I have to start taking this medication by Sunday. Called the pharmacy right away to see if there was a mistake. Even the pharmacist was confused because they had never heard of the medication the doctor prescribed, and had to specially ship it in. The pharmacist also said that it was 3 times more hormones than my previous medication, and I should check with the doctor before taking it.
So I called back this morning right at 8am because I need to start taking my medication in two days, explained that when I opened my meds they said it was for menopause, and asked to speak to the nurse or the doctor for clarification. Was told I’d get a call back when the nurse Gloria arrived; left my name and phone number. Waited 4.5 hours, no call. Called back the office and was told everybody was out to lunch, pretty rudely, mind you, and that Gloria the nurse would call me back. Alright, that’s fine — shouldn’t have called back at 12:30pm. Waited another 2 hours, no call. Called them back at 3pm and explained this is the third time I’ve called, and am finally put through to Gloria the nurse practitioner. She said she did indeed hear about the situation this morning and that they did make a mistake (so now I’m thinking, well, why didn’t she call me during/​before/​after her lunch or something???), and she had to check with the doctor. I said please call me back as soon as you hear from the doctor why this medication was prescribed to me and why I can take it when even the drug specification sheet said it was solely designed for menopause symptoms. She calls back and just says, the doctor says, «It’s ok, just take this medication.» Seriously? That’s it? What about why she changed it, why it’s 8 times more expensive, and why the hormone levels are 3 times stronger? I had to start taking my meds on Sunday, which Gloria knew, so Gloria said the doctor would give me a call by the end of the day. Instead, I receive a call from the receptionist exactly at 5pm, who said the doctor had to leave and I should call Gloria (!!) back on Monday for more information. Fantastic. Because I’m supposed to take my meds starting Sunday, which I explained 3 times, each time I called. So I just lost $ 300, have no medication, and can get NO INFORMATION about why I was prescribed the wrong (very expensive) medication and/​or WHY it’s safe to take when it’s designed for menopause. Oh, and also, how wonderful that this company does not have an answering machine and shuts off all lines of communcation right at 5pm on the dot. Thank you for a very frustrating day.
EDIT: Just went to the pharmacy, and to make matters worse, I was told the following by the head pharmacist: Gloria had called them earlier, and the head pharmacist explained to her that the pharmacy and insurance could not issue me a refund for the incorrect prescription, and that the doctor would have to issue me the refund for their mistake. How funny Gloria didn’t mention this at all when we spoke… Well, just found out my ACTUAL medication for 3 entire months is $ 46. The menopause meds the doctor told me to take is $ 300. The pharmacist also said I was lucky I took the time to read the drug specs because the dosage was way too high. Good thing I just so happen to have a friend who works on the Austin Medical Review Board. If I don’t get the refund I’m entitled to, I plan on giving him a call first thing on Monday. This entire situation is preposterou

This was my first time outside the comfortable womb (ha!) of UT’s University Health Services, and I was nervous about the standard horrors some women experience at OBGYNs: unexpected fees, condescending or judgmental doctors, and pain. However, I needn’t have worried. I booked an appointment via ZocDoc a couple weeks ago, and today I saw Dr. Allison Urrutia in for a surprisingly quick annual exam.
In summary,
Low: mild discomfort while getting a pap smear, but what do you expect?
Highs: low wait time (the whole thing was done within 30 minutes), comfortable seating, highly professional staff, and no (!!!) co-​pay.
Dr. Urrutia treated me with dignity and respect. She was friendly and prompt, willing to engage in small talk to make me feel more at ease as she checked me out.
I’ll be back!

I highly recommend this place. My OBGYN in April Harris, and she is kind, professional, and thorough. I like their appointment system, and I have always been able to get right in (waiting less than 15 minutes each time).
Nobody really likes visiting this sort of doctor, but the ladies at Gynics are nice and caring. I’ve been going here for 2 years, and I recommend them to any friend of mine.

I highly recommend Dr. April Harris at Gynics Associates. I recently had a baby and she was informative, understanding and very responsive to all of my needs during the entire pregnancy — not to mention always on time. She was wonderful during the delivery as well and Karla, her nurse is equally as great to work with. Throughout my time there I have at one time or another seen all of the doctors in the practice and they have all been caring, very professional and made me feel like I was getting excellent care.

I highly recommend this place. My obgym is Dr. April Harris — she is a wonderful wonderful person and an even better doctor!

I have been to Gynics Associates for 2.5 years. I have referred a number of my friends who needed an OBGYN and we have all been very satisfied with the service we receive. They seem to accept most types of insurance and it’s easy to get an appointment once care has been established. I really like my doctor and friends have been reasonably satisfied with doctors in the same practice.
