Visiting from California and I must say this is by far the most snarky customer service I have ever experienced.
I can understand their policies of no photos and get why they don’t let people handle the boots, to keep them in perfect condition. however the way they give that message to someone who has not seen the signs yet, or just walks in, is COMPLETELY rude. They could have a much more polite way of saying it instead of having such attitude. Or maybe mention it softly as soon as people come in.
Anyway…Someone in our group went to take a photo and was quickly reminded of the no photo policy and she put her phone away. However there was a woman who walked in at the same time as us. She was struck with such awe that she went to take a photo and was quickly snapped at with, «Ma’am, We DON’T allow photos as I clearly just said, and you can see the signs!» She snapped her head around and was so caught off guard, she did NOT hear her when she told us and didn’t see the signs right off the bat. Your eyes go directly to the boots!
It would have been fine if the sales woman was not so condescending and rude. We actually most likely would have stayed and purchased something if she hadn’t been.
We even had some locals over hear us while we were walking away from the shop talking about how shocked we were with their customer service. They chimed in and we were told it happens there all the time! We were then referred to a couple other places that had MUCH better customer service and guess what. We ALL got boots.

Dear Patti — months ago you responded to my review asking me to give your store another try, but then a week ago you deleted it and replaced it with a comment saying that I’m nasty and entitled. I’m confused and am starting to see that the attitude of your staff might reflect the attitude of its leadership.
First of all — if paying $ 400 for a boot and expecting the vendor to fix a perceived problem makes me entitled, then, yes, I’m entitled. I will own up to that.
Second — As to the nastiness of my attitude — I’m sure it was frustration, but if it came across as nastiness I apologize. I worked in retail and I never understood why customers would get nasty, and I’ve made it a rule to always be a respectful customer, so I would hate to think that your staff felt belittled in any way. My apologies if that was the case.
To reiterate, in my review I stated that I loved my boots — I wear them all the time. I state that multiple times in my review, by the way. I even bought a $ 60 boot jack AFTER this whole heel debacle. You make great stuff! I just didn’t appreciate the attitude, that’s all… but now I have a better idea as to where it’s coming from.

Great western store. I tried to find a pair of boots. I have horribly sized feet (14A) and I was unsuccessful. The person helped me through the process. They have really good selection and it’s in a kitschy section of town. Also have other western apparel, but I went for the boots. The boots here are handmade. It’s different than other stores. Pretty cool place. They do not allow photography inside because they make their own boots, and boot styles. These boots are one of a kind.

Just amazing boots, wonderful product offering, and such an incredibly helpful staff! My daughter and I walked out with two pairs and then I ordered a third pair. I am addicted to their fit and style and looking forward to ordering another pair!

Great service by the two women that where there. They said they where just getting a new shipment in two weeks but since I was on vacation I still wanted a pair of boots that day. Luckily they still had some amazing boots in. Such good quality. Ive had them for two months and love them. Still breaking them in but Im sure once they are they will be my go to shoe for the day…
I will be back next time Im back in Austin. Thanks Lady’s for your great service. Parking was easy and nice it is nicely visible from the street so it made it easy to find.

Just bought my first pair of Heritage boots. What a great experience: super helpful and knowledgeable staff, very patient and answered tons of questions. They have s great selection with styles ranging from subdued to flamboyant. I felt the price was very reasonable for a pair of hand-​made boots, although some of what I tried was far pricier than the ones I bought: that God they were out of my size! The boots are very comfortable and almost feel custom-​made. Been wearing them for a week and they are molding to my feet quite nicely. So why not 5 stars? They have a weird policy of not allowing customers to remove boots from the display. The salesperson explained that it was because to boots had to be displayed just so but I found it off-​putting, so much so that I almost walked out of the store. I personally want to pick up and examine shoes before trying on. Instead I ended up with several pairs of boots by my chair that I never tried on because I didn’t care for them off the shelf, and I may have missed a pair on the shelf that I might have tried. However I am very with my purchase and would have to give serious thought to getting another pair on my next trip to Austin.

Purchased my second pair of cowboy boots today (first pair I got 6 years ago at Allen’s) and the selection was just beautiful and the staff were all knowledgable. They definitely don’t have the quantity of Allen’s but what they offer are one of a kind, high quality and incredibly detailed boots that will last a lifetime. If you’re in the market for some stunners, I highly recommend you visit here first.

I am not one to write Unilocal reviews but wanted to make sure that the fine folks at Heritage Boot get their due.
Danielle was friendly, competent and incredibly knowledgeable. Although I could have spent all day in the store looking at the walls of exquisite boots, she had me sized and out the door with a new pair of Ranch Hands in about half an hour. In truth, I could have been out of the store in about ten minutes but got lost in conversation.
The boots really are works of art and a huge value at their price point. Are they cheap? Not at all. But, with care and some simple maintenance, the shoes’ construction looks as though they’ll hold up for years.
Not sure what all the fuss is about not touching the boots. Danielle and the other sales associate pulled each pair I was interested in and allowed me to try them on and get a feel for the properties of each type of leather without any delay. I am hard on my shoes and expect that I’ll beat up my new boots right quick. However, I want to be the one to do that and don’t need body oils, scratch marks and barbecue sauce from random customers expediting the process.
Again, my thanks for a lovely experience. As a Texan that has lived on the East Coast for years, the boots are a wonderful way to remember home. I’ll definitely be ordering a few more pairs.

Wow. It’s a good thing that I didn’t come to this boot store upon first arriving in Austin. I might have based the Texas welcome on their customer care. When I walked in, I was ignored by both two girls and finally approached by the (local) salesgirl, who was helpful. I went to take a photo of a great sign about quality, and was met with a snappy comment from one of the girls about how they don’t allow photos. A naïve customer reached over to pick up a pair of boots, and was met with a verbal slap on the wrist as well, noting «we prefer if you let us help you with the boots and don’t touch them». The customer left immediately, which prompted a conversation from the sales girls about whether or not that person should have been more «self aware» about the signs, and whether or not they were rude. The condescending tone really reeks from a store that doesn’t actually MAKE real riding boots.
Pros: excellent craftsmanship and pride that shows through the details.
Cons: you will leave feeling like an inconvenient tourist and regret coming in

Wow Danielle was knowledgeable and very helpful. This store is a holdback from the old west. Boots are as comfortable as slippers and ALL handmade.

Everyone very help for my First boot. They also shipped it to me and had the sole changed over to that vibram sole which is what I wanted. Janet who was the nice lady who helped me out was very patient.
The only reason I gave 4 stars if for some reason it took quite a long time to ship. It was worth the wait though

I went to this store yesterday and felt like walking out, right away. You can’t touch the boots! How am I suppose to feel the leather? If you want to have an art gallery where nobody touches your products, open one, but not a boots store. This is a «store» that will never see my money for sure. If you want to work with the public, respect them, don’t treat them like children.
I have visited and purchased many custom boots over the years in many western states. NEVER have I entered a store with a «no touching the boots policy». Hello, it’s a retail store not a museum. If you are looking for a pretentious and intimidaring shopping experience you can also visit Hermes in Paris, you’ll love it!
If your boots can’t handle the human touch, how are they going to handle the pavement???

This place is like a museum for boot lovers. It makes sense that they sat don’t touch. You wouldn’t walk up to a Picasso or a Gauguin and paw them, would you?
I am a NYC girl and have (almost) no need in my wardrobe for a pair of cowboy boots. However, I am seriously thinking of adapting my wardrobe and lifestyle to incorporate a pair of heritage boots.
They are gorgeous, customizable. My favorites are the Flores and the tupelo honey.
Can’t wait to get back to Austin and get a pair.

Extremely easy purchasing experience and awesome products. I went to college at UT and was back in town to be in a friend’s wedding. She welcomed us (her bridesmaids) to wear boots at the reception. The only pair I owned were not legit, and I knew that wasn’t going to fly in Austin.
I flew in two days before the wedding and went to Allen’s with a friend, who recommended it to me. The place was a madhouse (it was a home game weekend coming up). A woman sort of helped me, but it was fairly obvious she was more interested in talking to my guy friend, leaving me mostly alone to wander up and down the aisle. I tried on quite a few pairs, but I simply didn’t want to buy something that felt really generic and mass-​produced for upwards of $ 600 (my limit).
I left Allen’s bootless. Frustrated, I turned to Unilocal the next day and found all of these great reviews for Heritage. I found a style online that I loved — the classic Black Apache 16. Because of Unilocal,I knew not to touch the boots when I walked in, but there were plenty of signs and I was helped almost immediately, so I don’t think I would have done so anyway.
20 minutes later I was out of the store with my fantastic new boots, after a very friendly and straightforward session with one of the saleswomen. I love them. I got tons of compliments at the wedding reception and continue to get them back home in Washington, DC.

I own more boots than a person should. So far I have 4 pairs of Heritage boots. They are a beautiful boots, with a great sense of style. The owner is friendly, engaging and has a true appreciation for boots. I bought a pair of boots two days a go and walked in wearing my 23 year old Justin Anteater boots. We had a great time discussing how boots have changed and how to care for boots. Jerry was extremely attentive, engaging, and helpful. I was in and out in 20 minutes with a new pair of boots and off to lunch.
I’ve been in many times and had no issues. I respect the please don’t touch the boots policy and have never had an issue. I’ve always walked in, looked around at the boots in my size and virtually every time, I’ve been asked if I would like to see anything.
Bottom line — if you are respectful and genuine customer, you will have no issue and great service. I’ve been in the store a dozen times or so and received the same great service whether I bought a pair of boots that day or not.
These boots are stylish, unique, and good quality.

Heritage Boots is a little slice of heaven. Seriously, just walking in and smelling all of that leather, and letting your eyes wander past all of their colorful and intricately designed boots –it’s like therapy.
I own two pair. The Patty (named for the owner), which is a tall, fancy black boot. I’ve worn them to so many work occasions — they can really dress up a pair of jeans.
My second pair of Heritage boots are the Little Pony peewee boots. So unique and beautiful! I wear these boots everywhere and with everything. These boots are made for walking… and dancing, and working, and horseback riding, and dining out, and going to concerts. They are so comfortable, so much fun and can be dressed up or down! I constantly get compliments on them and people asking where to buy them.
Here’s the thing with Heritage boots — you are getting what you pay for. Yes, the prices seem steep at first, but when you realize they are in the same price range (or not much higher) as the GENERIC boot brands, you’ll understand what you’re getting: high quality leather, handmade, unique fancy designs… all at a steal.
It’s like owning a work of art that you get to wear! So save up and treat yourself to the BEST boots you could own. You’re worth it!

Let’s start with I from Brooklyn and I now live in South America. My need for cowboy boots started as a joke. I had a planned business’s trip to Nashville and wanted to leave the Wild West/​south with a pair of cowboys boots. Essentially to be the gaucho negro in buenos aires. Gimmicky and silly I know for a grown man, but we have to get our kicks and giggles somewhere.
Anyway, My trip ended up more business than pleasure, and I left Nashville without boots or a hat. «Fortunately» my trip was delayed in Houston due to wonderful airline on-​time performance. I did a search, Cavenders appeared to be the consensus. After an hour, I walked away with a decent pair of tony Mahon black caiman square toe and a Cavenders straw hat. Shout out to my Mexican American sales girl who was just awesome.
The boots looked nice, fit ended up being a little loose, and once home, they did not quite meet my expectations.
So I did a search on eBay, and encountered that Forbes article (do you guys have Forbes stock?). Anyway with my crappy skype connection I gots Janet H. On the line. She was absolutely fabulous. I explained that what I needed, she took pictures of the actual boots from her iphone and sent to me. We did this with about 5 pairs of boots. She did this knowing that I may not purchase for 3 months, when I was planning to be back in the states. Turns out I had an emergency trip to NYC later that week. Based on her great customer service and answering all my questions, setting my comfort level about sizing, even looking at my shoe/​boot collection I me mailed her for size reference, I decided to pull the trigger.
The boots arrived on time on the day she predicted. I went a bit more conservative, but I have to say overall the boots are a1, style, workmanship, color, and comfort. (Texas whiskey snip toe). I will be making another purchase in July (bring on the triad)
Janet H. Is the bomb, who knew boot purchases site unseen could be so easy. Consider me a raving fan. Expensive, hell no. This is quality to last a lifetime. I try to only buy the best footwear.
If your not a cowboy boot wearer, looking to change it up, and don’t live in TEXAS, Heritage is the way to go. I might need to call you guys to sell down here in South America. Muy bueno y muchas gracias Mis amigos

I visited Allen Boots, a competitor, and found the prices high for average quality. After posting my boot shopping adventures on Instagram
I decided to give my boot quest another shot — and was thrilled to have come upon this shop at the suggestion of my Austin based friends.
The women working in the store were knowledgeable and all looked fantastic sporting their own boots — they quickly guided me to my size and pulled out a pair that I knew had to be mine. And now they are. The price tag was high but the quality high and I know that I will get many years of use out of them, long after I am done wearing them as I tour the country in coming months during my road trip.

I never thought I’d buy a pair of cowboy boots, but by the time the store closed, I was fervidly calling my east coast bank hollering, «LET THE CHARGE GO THROUGH!!».
The boots stayed in the store to have a Vibram outer sole put on and I received them today by UPS, a couple hours ago. I could not be more satisfied with my purchase!
Alie, who is also from the east coast, comprehensively answered every question I could fire her way, from the provenance of the «snip-​toe» to the three different heel styles, leathers, craftsmanship, production times and company history. Believe me, I spend days and nights researching online, but she knew more than any amount of Googling could yield. It’s worth visiting just for the service and knowledge, never mind the top-​notch boots.
Heritage strikes the perfect blend of old-​fashioned quality, contemporary boutique shopping experience, and updated urbane fashion sense, all at a price that is affordable. I was expecting to pay close to a thousand dollars to be honest, but I walked out spending just over $ 400 with taxes and the Vibram sole added. Sure, that’s a lot of money, but this is tremendous value. If you can’t afford it, go down the street to that other place that sells generic stuff. (BTW it’s not cheaper.) Yes, some exotic leathers are imported, and all the boots are made in a Mexican shop carefully managed by Heritage itself, but it makes the appeal broader and price affordable. Additionally, boots can be made to order, but with vague and indefinite wait times, which they made very clear.
These boots, which I plan wearing all day and night inside my house for today, and I, were meant to be, that is all! When I found out the owner and I have the exact same shoe size, that was it! It’s worth mentioning I quickly browsed the other dross filled legacy store and promptly left uninspired, but when I walked into Heritage Boot, I knew I found «the real deal» and most likely, the best cowboy boots money can buy in Texas. Alie was so sweet when I compared the two stores, she didn’t have a single mean word to say, but take it from me, this is the place. I am so lucky to have stumbled in an hour before closing!
Their website is current, and the boots’ fit are accurate to size number, so I wouldn’t hesitate to order online in the future. However, it’s clearly a great experience to visit while in Austin. At the very least, call before ordering online. All you idiots who can’t read the store signs and are jerks about being serviced while having your feet attended to by very sincere sales associates, please go buy shoes at Cole Haan, buh-​bye.
