John Austin, MD

I had sinus/​septum surgery and (necessary) rhinoplasty with Dr. Austin about 15 years ago. He was always very nice, and his office staff was average – no major problems. However, I really wish I had had my surgery with someone else. While I believe he was very thorough at diagnosing my issues, my results have been mixed. I can breathe through both sides of my nose now (hooray!) but the aesthetic result is very poor. I have many obvious broken veins where my nose was «reattached,» he left virtually no tissue between the skin and bone at the bridge of my nose, he made the bridge quite thin and didn’t touch the end of my nose, making my nose look very unbalanced, and my nostrils are noticeably uneven in size. I think there are a lot of good ENTs in town now, so you can probably get the treatment you need with a much, much better surgeon.

Dr. Austin treated me for an issue with my salivary gland. I was impressed with his knowledge and attentiveness to my situation. He quickly diagnosed the issue and promptly issued treatment. His staff was very friendly and helped me navigate the billing situation to my satisfaction. I’ve recommended him to at least 4 other friends who have nothing but good reviews for him. If you need and ENT then this is a great option.

Dr. Austin is a phenomenally smart and knowledgeable physician. We’ve seen Dr. Austin for a broken nose, surgery, throat issues, tinnitus, and vertigo. He does it all and he does it well. He spends time listening and the examinations are thorough and gentle. I love that he is invested in the patient; taking his time with the diagnosis and treatment. We never feel rushed and always feel welcome and important. The location is easy to find and the office staff was warm and inviting. Dr. Austin is a funny and friendly doctor. We wouldn’t go anywhere else for ENT issues. He is truly one of the BEST!

I want to first start by saying when people have a great experience they are less likely to write a review. Rather than when people hear something they don’t want to hear or don’t have the red carpet rolled out for them when they walk thru the door they tend to do whatever they can to write negative reviews on every possible site.
Dr. Austin is a human like all of us and no one is perfect. He is a specialist in Ear Nose and Throat. I found him on Zoc Doc and he has amazing reviews.
I moved here from out of state, and I have always had sinus issues. Never once have I had a Dr. who was so proactive about finding out the root of the problem. But… Dr. Austin was. He put me on antibiotics to clear up my sinus infection. He informed me that he wanted me to have a CT Scan done but I had to wait until the meds were finished. Otherwise the infection would throw off the scan. Totally understandable.
Turns out I had a horribly deviated septum. And my sinus openings were closed. He asked me to come in so he could SHOW me the scan. That right there was amazing. I was able to see exactly what the issues were. He went into great detail on what it takes to fix these issues. And surgery was the only solution. I had never been able to breath out of my left nostril. Chronic sinus infections, and sever sinus migraines is what I had lived with for almost 20 years. I finally had answers! I remember saying to him afterwards «so it’s not all in my head then?» We all laughed after he said «well actually it is.»
He and his staff went over how the billing worked. They were great about communicating thru the entire process.
Surgery day came and went. The facility he preforms his procedures at was wonderful. Not the most fancy place, but everyone who worked there was so warm and welcoming. Before surgery he came in, sat down with me and went over the entire process. What his plan was, how long it would take, and how I will feel after. I wasn’t blindsided one bit. Him doing that helped me feel calm about what was about to happen.
It has been almost a month since my surgery and I have gone in for 2 follow ups so far. He is vigilant about making sure there isn’t any scar tissue forming that will hinder the surgery.
Dr. Austin is the only Dr. I trust now. He is there when you need him. His staff is great! And both office locations allow his patients to have options.

Sinus surgery in December 2015. Office staff is very friendly and helpful. Dr. Austin is very amiable. I would recommend Dr. Austin for anyone with ENT issues.

I’ll be quick here:
Unfriendly, depressing waiting room.
I came in with visible sores on my tonsils, most likely strep, and knew I just needed to get on some antibiotics. I knew the problem and just needed a prescription.
Dr. Austin came in and proceeded to perform an unnecessary «Nasal Endoscopy» COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the problem I came in for. I was not told this would be billed at extra cost (it’s just a telescope on a rod he puts into your nose) — and it ended up costing over $ 400.
For a doctor to take advantage of people like that to make some extra cash is DISGUSTING, and part of the reason we have such a problem with healthcare costs in the US. What if I could not afford to pay the bill? This «procedure» helped me in no way at all.
Unfortunately my review was not posted to ZocDoc, as they HIGHLY censor their reviews (their revenues come from the doctors), but hopefully some people can see this and be warned.
DO NOT GO HERE.

I have seen doctor Austin approximately 4 times over the past year when I began developing vocal nodules. On my first appointment I was less then impressed due to his extremely poor bedside manner but I thought I’d give him a try.
He scoped my throat 2 times to look at the nodules (an expensive procedure) but when I went in to see him today for a follow up I asked him if he could tell me if the nodules were decreasing or going away so that I could validate whether the therapies I’ve tried are working and he said that he couldn’t tell because he didn’t write down any measurements during the last 2 scopes and didn’t have any pictures or notes. He states «well you sound better and you feel better so I guess they are getting better» he could not give me a definitive answer to any of my questions and gave me no direction as to what to do next.
If you are looking for a doctor who truly cares about you and really puts effort into his job then Dr. Austin is not the one for you. I have wasted hundreds of dollars on him and now have to start all over with a new ENT.

I did not wait for too long, and Dr Austin greeted me when he walked in the room.
He asked me couple questions, asked me to do some simple movements, and then he said I might have positional vertigo.
Then I asked him if he could give me a firm answer, he said it was positive just by looking at all the symptoms. Positive but not sure, so he scheduled me to do two more tests. The visiting was less than 10 mins, and it was over.
I then scheduled with the receptionist, and was told that I will receive a call the next day, and they will let me know how much those tests cost.
So the next day, I received a call, they said I need to pay $ 450 out of my own pocket after my insurance.
To be honest, I was kinda in shock — $ 450 for just making sure if it was positional vertigo? Really? Ironically the vertigo went away by itself later on, so I canceled the appointment for the tests.

This guy is easily the best ENT around. Had major sinus issues. He knew exactly what was going on (unlike a couple visits to Medspring) and got it fixed quickly. Finding an ENT in Austin to deal with allergies that impact the sinuses was key. Glad I found him.
The person who gave him one star below is ridiculous. So what if you had to wait an hour. She seems bitter.

Probably the worst doctor I’ve ever met. Make an appointment and wait a hour after your scheduled appointment to even go back into the office for examination. The nurse, Lindsey isn’t much better than Dr. Austin.
ABsoutely horrible experience. Unfortunately my husband had to go through surgery and it was a total nightmare. Even the OR nurse stated she had never seen a doctor act like that in her 15 years doing OR.
Please find another ENT or specialist for your needs. Dr. Austin should not be your doctor unless you are looking for an extremely unporfessional and stresfful experience.

I just came to see an idiot saw a throat ear and nose specialist and said they don’t deal with allergies if I’m concerned I need to go to an allergist he’s like why do you think you have allergies I said I been pricked and blood tested and and I am allergic to almost all trees and grass hes like if you just moved from California it takes longer than two weeks to become allergic to your environment it takes about a year what a moron didn’t want to prescribe be singular so he gave me antibiotics and said I prob have a virus that will pass… Said anything for allergies can be found over the counter.
I didn’t by come here to be insulted negative 10 stars! You want to get treated like a free clinic by all means come here! Your will be questioned and seconded guessed like a criminal on your symptoms if I wanted to guess what I had I’ll save me a copay and go on web md next time. I want a refund!!!

Since my previous review was filtered out by Unilocal for some reason, I just wanted to post again to say how terrible my experience was with this guy.
I waited more than an hour and a half (after waiting at least an hour on my 2 previous visits), during which no member of the staff even talked to me, let alone apologized. Once I finally saw the doctor, I told him I was unhappy about the length of the wait, upon which he began to YELL at me and tell me 1) that his other patients were more important than I was; 2) that his staff was too incompetent to schedule things correctly, and that wasn’t his fault; and that 3) I was just whining and needed to let it go.
What upset me the most wasn’t the wait (it was annoying), or the total lack of caring from hist staff. It was the reaction he had when he was called on his lateness. Here’s a quote: «Oh really? You had to wait a long time? Well I am soooooooooo sorry.»
Show me another interaction of any sort where it’s acceptable for someone to be 90 minutes late for an appointment and then yell at you when you point it out. Unacceptable.
This was the worst doctor I’ve ever seen, and hopefully this time, my review won’t get suspiciously «dispappeared» by Unilocal

1. He made me wait an hour before I got in to see him.
2. The receptionist said…“Anyone who doesn’t make you wait just isnt a good, in demand doctor.“
3. He saw me for about 30 seconds, said…“Yep, you need your tonsils out.“
4. Wrote the recovery time on a card and showed me out.
5. I was out in about ten minutes.
6. His bill was astronomical. Luckily, I have insurance.
So not for me, thanks.
