We were in Austin for a couple days. La Traviata was conveniently near our hotel downtown and we were in the mood of some Italian food. Staff is very friendly and sweet, John took care of us both times we were there, once in a table, the second one in the bar area and we loved him, he was really nice. Food was served fast and it was, for us, delicious. We loved everything we tried, Raviolis, Spaguetti alla Carbonara, Fetuccini con Funghi, Rigatoni with spicy lamb and meatballs and Tiramisu. Servings are fair sized and full of flavor, not your usual giant pasta plates with veggies, canned sauce, chicken and awful sausages thrown in. It was a wonderful experience, in a lovely, warm place with awesome service and unforgettable food. I’m sure we’ll visit again in any future trip to Austin. We loved the place so much we would love to have it here in Dallas!

Best carbonara in austin. Period. This place has no pretensions. Servers know well the menu and are very efficient. Good food, great location and attentive service. Their bolognese is pretty well done and quite traditional but still not my favorite item on the menu.

I have had much better Italian food at other places. This place has a pretty limited menu and is pretty pricey for what you get. It also only has beer and wine instead of a full bar. They bar area is very nice and seems more practical to offer cocktails too… The food is not bad, but it is also not all that great either. I also found the wine list to be limited. Although our service was very friendly and attentive… It seems like if they expanded the menu some to have something like chicken saltimbocca or other options with expanded bar options it could be much better.

Best casual Italian food in Austin! Warm and welcoming, great food, service and location. Since discovering this place about 4+ years ago, this place has become more popular(understandably so) and harder to get a reservation. Perfect for a small group or a nice date night. Situated on Congress Ave, very close to many bars for pre/post cocktails. Parking isn’t too bad, lot’s nearby or circle if you have parking karma.

The family thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at La Traviata. Everyone’s meal was beautifully prepared and delectable. We enjoyed the spaghetti alla carbonara, the caesar and mista salads, chicken parmesan, and fettuccini con funghi. The alfredo on my spaghetti carbonara was thick, flavorful and perfectly seasoned to compliment the pancetta. We finished the dinner with the chocolate hazelnut torte and sponge cake. Truly amazing food! Our waiter, Scott, was very attentive and warm. He made the evening truly perfect! The restaurant is small and cozy. We enjoyed the quiet and friendly atmosphere of this wonderful bistro.

Nice spot for lunch a bit noisy but tolerable. The restaurant is tiny but they manage to pack it from wall to wall. The service was great our waiter was quick to refill drinks and take our orders he also brought our food out in a timely fashion. They got my order wrong which wasn’t a big deal cause I wasn’t in a rush but if I had been it would have been ok cause he immediately fixed the problem and had a new plate out within five minutes. The food was good defiantly hit the spot I would recommend trying the carbonara and adding chicken or the spaghetti a la bolognese. The caprese salad wasn’t much to brag about I would probably try a different appetizer when I go back. All together I would definitely recommend trying this place everything on the menu looks pretty good and the dish I got was on point.

With Austin going through an Italian restaurant boom and so many new Italian restaurants popping up monthly La Traviata still remains at the top of the hill for me. The restaurant is in the center of downtown in a cute older building and is perfect for a business lunch or a dimly lit romantic date. The owner and staff are great and very knowledgable of their menu and wine list. The food is all made from scratch, including the pasta(#YUM). Insider tips: 1. Spaghetti alla Carbonara — Homemade pasta + bacon + crème = MINDBLOWING 2. Hanger Steak Salad — My girlfriends favorite salad in Austin and I ditto that. 3. Ricotta Cheesecake — Homemade and one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had.

Came here for a family dinner of 12 and had a nice experience. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, the service was friendly, and the food was out rather quickly. My girlfriend and I split the chicken parm with spaghetti and we both walked away full. Nice sized portions here. The food was good but nothing remarkable. The only weird part was making the reservation. We wanted to eat dinner at a normal time but were told the only time they could seat our party was at 5:30. They were absolutely adamant that if we were not all there at exactly that time we could not be seated. So, we all showed up on time and of course we were the only people in the restaurant. They were slowly filling up as we were leaving but the whole thing just seemed odd. If you’re in the area and want some Italian it is worth checking out.

Really good, traditional Italian food. The special was butternut squash ravioli and it was devine. They are most famous for their carbonara and it is Delish. Not only is it yummy but it is a large portion(you’ll likely have leftovers). I also liked the fried radicchio on the carpaccio dish.

My boyfriend and I randomly ended up here for dinner last night and I have to say it was the best meal I’ve had in awhile. We shared the Caesar salad to start and it was perfect. Tangy and more of a thick vinaigrette than a creamy dressing, which is exactly how I like it. For our main course we shared the chicken Parmesan and the mushroom linguine dish. They were out of this world. The pastas were perfectly al dente, the tomato sauce was light and flavorful, the chicken crisp, and the mushroom sauce was light but decadent. The mushrooms were plentiful too. No skimping here. Everything was just perfectly balanced. We ended our meal with coffee that was so good we both ordered a second cup. I cannot say enough about how good this place is, just go!

Ok. Quick reservation on Friday night. Good. Get to the restaurant but park at City Hall — $ 10 for the night. Bad. It got worse from there. We marched inside and were seated quickly. First thing of note — it’s LOUD inside — the walls are hard concrete or stucco and the floor is concrete so the sound reverberates a LOT. You have to speak quite loud across the table to be heard. I will say the service was good — the waitresses and hostess were attentive. However: — the bread sucks — it was cold, a bit dried out, and just not appetizing — we ordered a Caesar(they were nice to split it) and the lettuce was wilted and it had WAY too much dressing and it was quite salty — we ordered rigatoni past and lamb. The pasta sauce was good but the pasta was not cooked well and didn’t fit in with the other ingredients. the lamb meatballs were tasty, but the entrée was so dragged down by the pasta that we sent it back. The manager did come over to ask if we wanted something else but we declined. We were in the mood to risk another 20 minute wait. Overall, the food was lacking a lot for such a nice place and a fairly expensive price. Lots of potential with a decent location and atmosphere, but the food and the ambience were not worth the effort.

In town for the formula 1 race and wanted something other than Texas BBQ. We decided to make a reservation and some Italian food for dinner. I’d like to say we were not disappoint the roasted corn soup was yummy and so was our enters. My husband ordered the the spaghetti carbonara and I got the calamari puttanesca sauce. Both dishes were very good and highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I had such a lovely time here last night. Small, but cute. Liked the ambience. Everyone was super friendly and made us feel welcome. I got the Spaghetti alla Carbonara — honestly the greatest Italian dish I have ever tasted. I was obsessed and couldn’t stop eating it. Basically if I could eat it everyday, I would. My girlfriend also loved her dish. I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat. I’ve been looking for a great Italian restaurant and I’ve finally found it.

If you’re looking for great Italian food, or a nice date spot, go to La Traviata! A modest-size restaurant located in downtown Austin. Everything I tried was delicious! I am not normally a big pasta eater, however, La Traviata is well known for their pasta dishes so I had to order the pasta special of the day(a three cheese pasta with blue cheese in a cream sauce with arugula). I also tried the Wild Arugula & Roasted Beet Salad, the Pasta Norma, and the Cioppino alla San Francisco — all so delectable, and everything paired great with the Malbec! Due to the restaurants size, I would recommend making a reservation(especially for the weekend). La Traviata is a little on the more formal side than some of the other restaurants and eateries in the area.

I thought we were going to Botticelli’s on South Congress, and accidentally ended up here, which was my fault. I decided to go ahead and stay anyway, since we had made a reservation, and the reviews on Unilocal looked positive. The place is super cute, as you feel like you are walking into someone’s home, it is dimly lit, and smelled delicious. Tables are fairly close together, and there is a small bar. We were greeted after a short wait, and decided on a bottle of white which was excellent. I wish I could remember the name, darn! I started with the mussels, as did my friends. They were okay, the broth was super thin, very salty, and just didn’t have the taste that I like when I have mussels. I had the spaghetti which was decent, but still could have had more flavor. My friend had the alfredo which was really good. Perhaps I didn’t order more exciting dishes, but I just wasn’t blown away. Great service, decent food, cute atmosphere, great wine.

This place is adorable. I can’t believe on a Friday night that it wasn’t packed. We called at 5:30 and got a reservation for 6:30. We ordered the specials caprese salad with the gooiest mozzarella I’ve ever seen, it was fantastic. My friend ordered spicy shrimp in a marinara cream sauce, loaded with shrimp. I ordered the 3 cheese butternut squash ravioli with pork ragu and spinach… It was delicious! Service was great. I will be coming back. Would be GREAT for a fancy date night! And the prices are legit! Our specials were $ 18 and enough for two meals!

Small, quaint, casual little Italian place on Congress — great for date night. I have only been here once, but it was excellent. The food was great and our server did a good job, despite the table next to us given him a really hard time about everything — it was SX, so the crazys were in town. Since it’s pretty small, I’d recommend making reservations. They are open pretty late so it’s even a good spot for a night cap.

Quite possibly the best bowl of pasta I’ve had in Austin. The pasta carbonara is out of this world and they give you so much! My pasta lasted me for 3 meals! They give you a lot of pancetta too. My only gripe is that this place is tiny so you should make reservations if you have more than 2 people, otherwise you’d have to wait for a long time!

It’s small, quaint, and dimly lit as we walked in and greeted right away by the hostess. You can easily seat 60 people if you include the bar area and on this night, it was almost full to capacity so I highly recommend making reservations before you go. As we waited for my cousin to arrive, we ordered a couple of glasses of Malbec at $ 11/glass which I think is a reasonable price for what we got — sweet and subtle to the palate. For starters we had the Steamed Prince Island Mussels(white wine, garlic, fresh parsley) and the Crispy Polenta(rosemary polenta served w/Italian gorgonzola sauce) which if there is any wonder what to try you MUST get the polenta. It is perfectly fried to a nice, crunchy crisp. Review after review talked about how amazing the Spaghetti alla Carbonara is and while there almost every other plate being brought out was this one so how could I not try it to? Um, yes please! The presentation was perfect with the egg yolk sitting right atop. As I pierced my fork into the mound of pasta it unraveled and filled my plate to the brim. The sauce was just as I like it — creamy consistency — with perfectly scattered pancetta in the dish. I asked for shrimp to be added for a small up charge. The next time I am in Austin and in the mood for Italian, I’ll definitely stop back in.

After consulting the Unilocal reviews, it seemed the Spaghetti alla Carbonara was the dish to get here and it was indeed fantastic. Super rich, creamy and filling with great flavor and the egg yolk on top looks great and makes it even richer and tastier. Pretty filling as well. The ambiance of the place is decent and its in a nice location right on congress close to lots of wine and cocktail bars if you’re in the mood for a pre or post dinner drink. Service was friendly and knowledgeable from our server, and the place was surprisingly empty during SXSW for dinner. My wife’s spaghetti bolognese was good as well, but had a strong smoky flavor to the meat in the sauce which I liked, but don’t think she cared for, so keep that in mind maybe if you get that. All in all, I enjoyed it and would go back for the Carbonara on a splurge day geared towards fatty creamy pasta goodness.
