Lone Star Pediatric Dental & Braces

My kids have been going here for the last two years. We love all the doctors, especially Dr. Craig. He is kind and easy going. He was extremely gentle with my daughter while she was sedated for all of the work that needed to be done. I don’t feel that they over treat patients as many reviews have said… that was certainly not the case in our experience. The doctor was extremely thorough about what needed to be done and about what could wait. I feel that he took a very cautious and conservative approach. They have done a lot to the office to update it and make it fun for the kids since we first started going to the North Austin location. The staff is kind and I would recommend this practice to all my friends looking for a new pediatric dentist.

My daughter went for a cleaning. She felt comfortable and they did a good job. We even got a free movie ticket. I was happy with our overall experience.

I went to the Lakeway location. Save yourself from an awful bill and save your child from horrible service. This place is TERRIBLE. I’m ashamed to say I took my daughter there 3 times before pulling the plug! Today our appt was at 10:30am and we left at 12pm because they over booked (they only have one doctor on staff each day) the front desk staff is highly unprofessional and never seems to know what is going on, the dentists charge outrageous amounts for a 2 year old cleaning! And by cleaning I mean a DRY toothbrush and two second look in her mouth. I will NEVER go back. Save yourself the grief and look elsewhere! If I wrote everything that I dislike about this place it would be a LENGTHY review. I would be ashamed if I owned this business. Wish I could give it zero stars.

I absolutely love this place best customer service and very kid friendly from the movies they preview to the educational electronic games they provide. And I appreciate the staff takes the time out to remember their patients it makes the parents and children more at ease. I never thought my 7 year old daughter would be excited to go to the dentist.

Horrible place. Very unprofessional. These people tried to put crowns on my daughter’s teeth for very small cavities. They have no clue on what is going on there. I am looking for a new dentist for my daughter now! From the front to the back is a disaster.

My husband took our four year old here for a check up. He said it was clean and everyone was nice, our daughter was comfortable and the exam went smoothly. But then it got strange: she was examined by two people, each said she had some very tiny cavities that were too small to treat but everything looked good otherwise. Then, when they were ready to leave, suddenly a third person came in telling him there were four major cavities and she’d need four fillings for those and also a crown. It went from no treatment to a $ 900 treatment plan. Just didn’t sound right to me. He was texting all this to me and sending me pictures the whole time. We agreed to just pay for the cleaning and fluoride treatment and part ways there. We’re going to get a second opinion from a doctor who came highly recommended from a friend.

If you have regular insurance, do yourself a favor and take your child somewhere else. We live down the street, so we thought we would take our four year old there.
The first two checkups were fine, as all they did was count her teeth and brush some flouride on. When we actually had to go back to get a cavity filled, we realized we need to take her to a place where she has one dentist in a quiet environment with a well-​trained staff.
The waiting room is chaotic and the staff is doing their best trying to shuffle these kids in and out as fast as possible. The treatment room is a single room with multiple chairs, taking out any sense of privacy (it’s scary enough for kids to be at the dentist, but when they see five other kids in the same room — half of them crying — it makes it a bit scarier). One mother was dropping f-​bombs the whole time and smacking her other kids while one was being treated. After the dentist and hygenist stopped fighting over how to administor the nitrous oxide to my daughter, I realized the staff is not trained and the bedside manner of the dentist was non-​existent.
With the limited number of pediatric dentists that accept CHIP and Medicaid, I’m sure the staff is overwhelmed with the amount of kids they have to see througout the day. If you have a regular PPO, I would suggest going somewhere to get a more individualized and caring experience. We sure are.

DO NOT take your child here. Our six year old developed some cavities and we took her in to get them taken care of. They wanted to give her CROWNS and PULL one of her teeth. We took her to get a second opinion and she miraculously needed far less work. Lone Star never sent the new dentist the X-​rays we had them take the previous week. Surprise. These people are only trying to rack up their bill at the expense of the children they should be helping. They should be shut down.

I STRONGLY CAUTION ANYONE CONSIDERING TAKING THEIR CHILD TO LONE STAR DENTAL. Lone Star’s dental waiting area is unsanitary (disgusting!) and dirty. The seats are torn, the floor dirty & paint peeling. The x-​rays were developed with the old fashioned gloves in solution. They do not have state of the art anything yet they bill at top. They repeat that they are soon to be in a newly modeled ofc but that is obviously far off. I thought we were in a 3^rd world country. They dismissed previous treatment plans bc they were «too conservative» which is understood as they could not bill for more procedures. My main concern in addition to it not being sanitary is their quote that was confirmed just prior to procedure was not billed as such. They were appalled when I asked to see what procedures were done compared to what was billed. The front desk started changing codes and handwriting what could be written off. It was obvious most of their business is with State insurance and with folks that cannot speak English nor would be in a position to contest anything and probably wouldn’t due to State being billed at 100% anyway. Prior to even billing the insurance after my child’s first procedure they chased me out to my car and asked for payment in full! Then when I was on a payment plan they would not treat my child (actually turned us away!) because I still had a balance. In addition when I mentioned LoneStar to my adult dentist and asked if they do pediatric, he stated «I would start doing pediatrics just to keep kids from going to Lone Star!» I feel they are an unethical business. STAY AWAY!

I took my son here, because it is one of the few places you can go if you have medicaid and this is a great facility. Our wait wasn’t very long and my son was thoroughly examined by the dental assistant who was careful to ask about his medical history and were accommodating to the fact that he has Autism and may not be comfortable with the dental procedures. My son got his x-​rays and was seen by the dentist. They were courteous and nice, we have our next cleaning schedule very soon!
