Mother’s Window Tint

No​.Joe​.My review stands. The reason I was leary to bring the car in were the numerous complaints about Ralph. He lived up to his reputation. I understand that you consider him to be a valuable employee but make no mistake. He’s costing you business.

I recently inherited a new car with some audio issues. After hearing ads from Mother’s over the phone, I decided to give them a try.
First impressions over the phone:
After checking our their website, I was directed to a phone number to call or text in order to get a «special discount.» Admittedly, I wasn’t really planning on much of a response given that I had texted the number provided around 11 pm. To my shock, I received a response within the hour. Whoever was on the end of the line even provided me with explanations of what may have been going on with my car’s stereo/​amp. After a brief period of texting back and forth I was provided with a number to call their local North Austin office and a general idea of what to ask about.
The following day I called Mother’s and Ralph answered. Like the other reviews mentioned, he does have a lackadaisical intonation with his speech but in all honesty I believe the guy means well. He went into detail about what may be malfunctioning in my car and suggested that I bring it in for his technician, Josh (who is awesome by the way), to take a look.
FYI, I live about an hour north of Austin and our Car audio store selection is extremely limited but I was willing to make the drive.
Impressions of the store:
As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by Ralph and another employee with hand shakes and introductions. Prior to my arrival two other customers arrived so there was a pretty substantial wait (1 – 2 hours). Since it was my day off I had the time and patience to wait around.
The store itself is kind of barren but it serves its purpose. Atmosphere is casual and there is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything while you’re looking around.
After waiting, Josh and Ralph brought me into the shop area and showed me what the found out with the car. They spared no minor detail and were extremely transparent with pricing and labor needs. Josh even showed me how to replace the part myself if I didn’t want to drive back down to Austin.

I DID NOT make a purchase at the end of the day (due to unavailability of the required part) but Ralph made it a point to render the entire inspection service free of charge due to me having to drive a long distance and having to wait.
Even though I didn’t make a purchase I was still treated with the utmost respect and attention. Granted, some people may be put off by the casual attitudes of the employees but I’m not bothered by it at all. To the previous reviewers who commented on the employees’ attitudes, What else did you expect from a car tint and audio shop in Austin?
Mother’s will have my business in the future.

I had good and fast experience. The price was reasonable and the work was done while I waited.

These are some very awesome people! I got a remote start alarm, subwoofer and stereo installed and front windows tinted and they were quick, thorough, professional and amazing prices!!! I am very pleased with choosing Mother’s out all the options there were! I’ve tested everything out and it’s awesome! Thanks y’all!

I have had work done at this establishment several times over the past 4 years and is satisfactory every time! Ralph and his crew make me feel at home each time I visit them. I’ve had window tint, car alarms and sound systems installed. I’m a cab driver and have recommended this place countless times to everyone I know. Everyone is personable and is highly skilled in what they do. They offer a hassle free lay away program on all their car audio and Ralph is easy to deal with. You gotta check this place out!

Based on their customer service alone I will not be returning. I guess the guy was not happy that we entered during his lunch, and then while I am trying to ask questions he was talking over me and/​or playing the speakers. His attitude alone made me tell my little sister, I am ready to go because I don’t like him and his attitude; therefore, I will not be coming back.

I have always taken my cars to Mother’s Window Tint to get tint, alarms and stereos put into my cars. They are very busy — which is great for the business! — and they always, always, ALWAYS help customers out. They’ve given out great prices for their products and I’ve always been satisfied with the work that has been done.
When you have a day off, stop by and see Ralph! He runs the North Austin location and is awesome! He works his booty off and always gets the job done! I know I wouldn’t be able to handle all of those phone calls and customers each day — but Ralph gets the job done! Rock on, Ralph!

Well unfortunately I never got to see if this place was any good. Just by the 2 phone calls I made I decided not to give these guys my business. Last week… First phone call, was put on hold for a while and then the guy sounded like Spicolli (lost) He said no appoinment necessary, so I call today and ask if I can bring my truck in for a remote start tomorrow, he said he already had a appointment at 11 and couldn’t fit me in? I thought you didn’t make appointments? Anyway when he answered the phone he asked if I could hold on a minute while he talked to someone else on the phone, I could hear that conversation and it went like this… Well maam, I could take the film off your windows but it won’t be easy because of the weather, maybe when it it gets warmer. Really? you’re turning away business? Wow? I’m glad that guy doesn’t work for me. I really didn’t get a good vibe when talking to this guy and I wasn’t going to give him a chance to disappoint me.

I was looking to get an upgraded Stereo with bluetooth. I rolled up into this place and the guy was on the phone. No biggie. I figured I would look around. Once he was off the phone, he had to get guy who was waiting for his window tint to be finished out the door. I explain what I was looking for. He starts showing me what kind of stereos he has. I was not real impressed with the selection they had. The phone rings again and he disappears. I am on my lunch break and do not have all day to wait around for this guy to give me a quote. While briefly talking to him, he threw out a number which I thought was low ball. The level of attention was not there at that shop.
I ended up going someplace else. I will not be «Doing it at Mother’s.»

Well. Looking to get a new system for my truck and don’t like spending gas going all over town. The website has no pricing or products. Check out custom sounds website for example. They have everything covered. I think I’ll shop where I can do homework at home instead of being pressured into a sale.

I’ve used these guys for both tint and car audio several times over the years and they’ve always treated me well. The car audio gear is a bit pricey for those of us who generally buy electronics online but I feel that the premium is worth paying if you need a same day install done. And frankly small shops need to make a profit somehow so I don’t mind supporting local business.
I’ve had good luck with installers there. Cables are run cleanly and no corners are cut. The store manager is super helpful and does his best to manage his time between the phone (which rings constantly) and the customers in the store.
I like the first come first served model for installs personally. Your best bet is to show up early on your day off to be at the top of the list and you’ll get done pretty quickly.

I decided it was time to get my windows tinted, a process I’ve repeated many times over the years research is key because anyone can produce immediate results its over time that determines quality. Mothers in San Antonio did a job for me back in ’94 so the N. Austin was on my list. I checked their website and replied to link to text for a discount by the president of the company. While I was waiting, I had my list of places to get estimates (hint, most places either try to give you a lowball price on subpar tint or will just give you a price range over the phone).
Mothers was 2^nd on my list to check out. I stopped by only 1 guy was working the front and several guys standing in the garage, he was tending a customer which took about 20 mins, but there was myself and 3 other customers waiting to ask questions he finished with the person he was tending then decided to gather the waiting customers myself included into a group and just say who wants audio and tint or what? He proceeds to just discuss the products on display without asking why and what we are looking for as individuals because this a GROUP sale unfortunately then begins to mention about how FAST they can tint a car (hint: really bad sign quality is not rushed, unless you want to make a return visit. I don’t want a doctor bragging how fast he can replace an organ).
I had history with this company, how the mighty have fallen, no personal attention not much of anything else other than that feeling you get when buying a car and the salesman says a cheesy line well here it would be «Whats it gonna take to get tint on your windows today»?
On a sidenote I don’t comment much but felt compelled to share my experience, I felt it only fair to reply back to the president since it was a week ago I sent a follow-​up message regarding questions. No response so I did try to give them an opportunity respond. I’m staying local for sure after this experience a craiglist listing seems sane.

Went in to have my windows tinted. After the initial job was done, I noticed a significant number of bubbles on the back window due to dust getting trapped between the film and glass. I took it in and they fixed it. After the second application, I noticed far less, but the same issue, so I returned to have the back glass re-​done. I just got the car back and I think they got it this time! I am a very picky person and although the last time was probably not necessary, the guys at the N Austin location took care of me. They really do strive to make sure each customer is satisfied and even though it took 3 attempts, I think they nailed it. Completely satisfied with the end result and highly recommend them. This company still believes in customer service and they can definitely be trusted.

Josh is the best. Go nowhere else. I have a 2013 Mini Clubman and the replacement installation looks great and sounds good too. Finally the poor sound from Mini’s head unit is gone. Yay Mother’s at I35 and 290. Stay cool Ralph.

I took my car to Ralph to get my windows tinted. Nice guy with great customer service. It took around 45 minutes. So far so good on the tint job. I would recommend dropping your car off then coming back for it. It’s not the most pleasant area. For that reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 stars. Price seemed competitive with everyone else. around 200ish for lifetime warranty. Ending on a good note they are open a lot later then the other tint businesses on Saturdays.

Ralph or whatever new sidekick he has will take care of you. Ralph is a great guy I can see how some people don’t love his humor but he is selling you a tint and alarm not delivering your first born. Great place to get a tint and alarm they have been around forever so they are doing something right.

I had my previous car’s windows tinted here and it lasted the 11 years I had the car and no flaws and no problems. So when I bought my new car, I had no doubt where to take it.
The sales guy was really helpful and showed us all the levels of tint they offered. We ended up buying the pricey stuff since we’ll be keeping the car a good long while. They got the job done quickly and it was perfect when we gave the windows a good look. After living with it for a few weeks, I can say they did a great job and it has made a huge impact on how hot the inside of my car gets.
Wouldn’t think of going anywhere else due to my experiences thus far.

I was so sad to read that the reviewers for this specific location had issues with Mother’s. I took my old Toyota Yaris in (before a girl totalled it) to get tint. The downside to Texas weather is the hot hot Texas heat, and with no tint in a black car with black interior = hot inside too… and a left arm that was starting to get darker than the right one lol
So the location might not be in the safest spot or best looking area but the businesses are small and hardly anyone is in the area first thing in the morning. So anywho, I got a deal for a 10yr 3M tint, for $ 159, and after the tint had set around the third day I inspected my windows for bubbles or any flaws, NONE!
Plus the service at Mother’s was great. The guy helping me was very funny, blunt and you could say he could «kick it» with the younger crowd.
Hopefully more people will try and give Mother’s a chance.
