Northwest Hardware

Like so many others, I loved this place! I was there shortly before it closed and got no clue that it was about to close. So sad!
I can’t tell you how many times Tracy helped me with the hardware and technical aspects of art projects I was working on. I, too, hope all is well with him.
He grew such delicious vegetables, he can probably live on his gardening if he wants to!
Does anyone know Tracy’s last name? I’d love to find out what he’s up to now.

So very sad to hear one of my big-​faves, NorthWest Hardware, is gone. I hope Tracy’s okay…
But, I left the neighborhood, too. I understand getting out of the area and into a better place for business. I’ve only added one star because I hate that this wonderful sole-​prop business is gone.
And another one bites the dust, hey?

They closed. Sad, as it was nice to see a small business doing well but I guess they weren’t.

So sad that they have closed for good now, as of today 4÷24÷15.
They were always my go-​to place for lawn and garden supplies, odds and ends of items i didn’t want to spend hours looking for in a big-​box store.
They were always helpful and their advice was usually spot-​on.
Tracy, Mr. and Mrs Woods and the other employees over the years almost felt like family, and they will be truly missed. God bless and God speed to you all.

This was my go-​to hardware store for the 17 years I lived in Northwest Hills, and they are just the BEST. Besides always having the stuff I needed (paint, garden stuff, keys, hardware, gifts, all kinds of stuff), they’re just super helpful and friendly. Tracy knew my kids names (he watched them grow up!) and when I moved away from the neighborhood, I would stop in to say hi when I was near. And now… I’m moving back to Northwest Hills! So thrilled to be back in the ‘hood, and close to Northwest Hardware. I love a store that feels like family.

More than just a hardware store! They sharpen knives. They repaired my vintage lamps while I waited. And they always are willing to help me find what I am looking for or offer suggestions on how to fix whatever I am looking to fix.
Every time I enter the store, they smile and greet me as though they are really happy I came in. Every time I leave, I am really glad I did go here rather than any other hardware store.

I LOVE this place! As a single lady the fella that works there (owner maybe?) is SO helpful! I can be a pain in hardware stores, as I have no clue about this stuff. But he is patient and sweet and they have some hilarious gag gifts in here as well! Forget you Lowes and Home Depot!!! This is the place to give your hard earned money to!

I was going to meet friends a El Arroyo restaurant when… I passed by a «Hardware Store» in a strip mall? Had to go in. The endearing red & white Radio Flyer Tricycle out front caught my eye and made me smile. Ample parking, a small store, well organized-​clean and, had offbeat items, the fellas were helpful and friendly. So, I bought the highest quality of paper-​leaf bags I have ever seen. It taint the «big box» hardware, has an abundance of products made in the USA and that’s why I’ll go back. Support your local good guys! Linda

These guys are great and a testament to small businesses that care about their customers!
I went in the other day looking for a small tool I need to finish a job. They didn’t have exactly what I needed but they help me get something to make it work.
I’m not saying I’m not going to go to the big box stores anymore, but when I need something specialty and I need some advice, these guys seem very capable and care about their customers.
They do offer knife sharpening and this is something I just can’t seem to get right so I will be bringing my knives there this week.

Nope. It’s not Home Depot or Lowe’s. They don’t have an in-​store lumberyard, home appliances, or a carpet department.
Here’s what they do have — customer service. I dropped by today because the belt clip on a 2 way radio I have was missing a bolt. I was looking in their bolts/​screws and couldn’t find what I wanted. An employee offered to help and initially we couldn’t find a bolt in the size I needed. Tracy came over and saw that their bolts were longer, but he offered to add a nut to the bolt to cover the added length AND make the connection more secure.
The total price for two bolts and two nuts — $ 1.21. Not having to deal with the hassle of a big box store AND get some help — priceless. I’ll be back.

Prices better than big stores – and much better customer service!

Great place. I get my A/​C filters here. Tracy is very helpful if you are involved in a project and need some answers. They have pest control, lawn fertilizer, hoses, sprinklers, etc.

Love this place. It’s not the place to get, say, lumber, power tools, or a faucet, but that’s not who they cater to, anyway. This is where you need to go if you need fertilizer or weed killer and don’t know what any of them do. Tracy’s the man — every product he has recommended to me has been a home run, from mouse poison to fertilizer to paint, and he will also let me know if I don’t actually need something new. I’ve even brought in light fixtures and asked what kind of screws I need. It’s been very rare that he has not been able to answer a home improvement question, but he’s not afraid to let me know that, either. I’ve had too many instances of the HD/​Lowes guys who answer my question by reading the back of the can to me.
And for the guy who recommended Zingers over NW below — sure, if you don’t mind paying their astronomical prices.

Bird feeders and seed, pruning shears, hand saws, leaf bags, flashlights, AC filters, you name it — this store can provide most of what you need for small jobs and not so small jobs.
Tracy is great, and a big help with advice and his knowledge of their merchandise.
I bought my deer repellent here. Tracy warned me that a) it probably wouldn’t work on my particular area, and b) it smelled like coyote urine. He was right on both counts. (I’ve never actually smelled coyote urine, but I will take his word for it. It was aromatic.)
The Scarecrow motion-​detecting water-​squirter did the trick, as he said it would.
I always start here when I shop for hardware. If they don’t have it, then I move on.
The new Goodwill Boutique is right next door, should you have anything to drop off.

Helpful honest guy at the counter. Had an neighborhood update conversation and will definitely go back again and again.

Great little shop with an amazing selection packed into the narrow aisles. The guy running the shop was very friendly and helpful. I’d definitely stop by if I’m in the area and need anything functional.

Very friendly neighborhood hardware store. Going here is so much better than going to the airplane hangar of home improvement that is Lowe’s or Home Depot. I walked in, was immediately greeted, and quickly shown where to find the hardware I was looking for. You really can’t ask for much more than that.

I love Northwest Hardware. Tracy has helped me, a completely hardware-​incompetent female, while never once making me feel stupid — and I thank him for that. I finally had to write about him today after he lent me a tool he doesn’t sell in the store on honor that I would bring it back. Holy smokes, customer service.
While the store isn’t the biggest, the items are curated well enough that you can find many things you need for small projects — nuts, bolts, funny spilled coffee cups (for those visits from the in-​laws, of course.) They also make copies of keys, which is very important for those of us who move regularly and always need extra keys.
Additionally, and this is really important to me — I’ve never felt like I was being overcharged here. This isn’t like a convenience store — the small size doesn’t mean Tracy charges ridiculous prices. I often leave here spending much less than $ 20 and getting exactly what I need the first time in all of five minutes, as opposed to having to spend at least half an hour walking around other big hardware stores in the area.
Also, NW Hardware now accepts the Go Local card!

Love this place.
Tracy really knows his customers!

Have you ever been to Home Depot for simple hardware supplies and wandered aimlessly through the aisle without finding your nails or CFLs or whatever it is that brought you there? This place is not like that at all. Northwest Hardware is a small family owned business with abundantly friendly people who can dispense advice on how to go about your home repair job and what to use.
They also carry some cute stuff (if you are interested in cute) such as those sleeping cats that look real, bird feeders, fake spilled coffee (I almost bought one of these – it freaked me out when I almost set my purse in the «spilled coffee») and decorative garden flags. Northwest Hardware is not Breed & Co’s twin but they could be the not as pretty younger step cousin twice removed.
