Residence Inn Austin Downtown/Convention Center

Hotel is clean. The reason for the single star rating is due to the fact that I was led to believe when I made my reservation that valet parking was included in my rate. Upon checkout not only was I unpleasantly surprised by the $ 35 valet fee but also by the nearly $ 50 dollars in tax assessments. So, it is my recommendation that if you stay here you receive in writing all associated fees or discounts included. However, if you’re like me, I will stay elsewhere with less costly fees the next visit to Austin. Single star rating also applicable to staff who seemed uncaring and not at all friendly.

Really liked the hotel. PIcked it because of bringing our lab to Austin to see his «master» at school. Wasn’t thrilled that they charged me an extra $ 100 «pet fee» for an extremely well-​behaved service dog in training. I get it — most pets would «leave their mark» in the room and extra cleaning would be required. Maybe charge a deposit and let the good dogs off? Staff was very nice and of course the location can’t be beat.

Location: Great location. Close to the freeway, but also close to the action. You can über to the west 6^th for cheap and walk to the bars on the east 6^th.
Valet: Quick and friendly
Check in and out: The girls where nice but seemed overwhelmed. I ended up getting charge again even though I prepaid for the room. She seemed confused when I checked in so I’m not surprised that that happened.
Rooms: Large rooms and bathroom. The full kitchen was nice but we didn’t use it. It is definitely for an extended stay.
Beds: The bed was stiff but that was ok. The worst part for me were the pillows. They were the most uncomfortable pillows which is way I am giving them a 3 stars.
Free breakfast but we didn’t take advantage of it. Moonshine is around the corner and that is my jam.
I think it is a great place to stay, but I would bring my own pillow next time.

My second time traveling to Austin to party the weekend away on 6^th Street on Halloween and I must say this hotel was better than my last hotel. Rooms are very spacious for two people, comes with mini kitchen area with microwave, large fridge/​freezer, mini living room with couches/​sofa bed, and bathroom. Only downside was there were only queen beds available otherwise the bed is very soft and comfortable made for a good night sleep after a night of partying and the hotel was quiet despite it being only 2 blocks from 6^th. The hotel staff was helpful, responded immediately to my request for more towels, and even extended my check out time by a couple of hours since I am a Silver Marriott Rewards member, I’m glad I chose th Residence Inn Downtown Austin, the rate was high at 229.00 for a queen studio but worth the one night stay due to it’s convenience smack in the middle of downtown Austin and 6^th Street. Upon entering the hotel there is a security guard who verifies if your a guest so be sure to take your room key with you. Valet parking is steeply high at $ 33 per night, but they are quick and very friendly. I didn’t try the complementary breakfast since we woke up late however it seems to be at Champions and yes there is a Starbucks Coffee on site. Until next time Austin, I will definitely reconsider my next stay here in the future.

Decent hotel. Absolutely atrocious parking (garage full, unable to park). Valet takes over an hour to pull vehicles. Staff lies to every hotel guest that presents their valet ticket «it will be just a few minutes» when there are 15+ people that are standing around waiting a complete hour or more for the same.

Tip #1 the city bus runs every 30 minutes from the corner, to the airport. If you pack light, it’s much cheaper to go that route than to pay the $ 18 Über fare to the airport.
Residence and Courtyard are adjoining Marriott properties. Residence Inn is the suite portion of the two. Because the RI rooms are equipped with a living room area with a couch and a kitchen, many people who travel in groups or with family may prefer RI over Courtyard. I wasn’t in charge of booking, so I can’t speak on that process or why this place was chosen. Personally, I’d rather not have had all of the extra space. I mean, I have that a home… in a hotel room, I’m only there to sleep. I did love the ice maker in the freezer though.
We stayed three nights during the weekday. Hanna checked us in and continuously greeted us by name, anytime that she wasn’t busy and she noticed that we came in or out. She is truly an example of what a 5 star hotel customer service experience should be.
I loved the orange infused iced water that was available every afternoon. The complimentary breakfast was available every morning in Champions, the hotel restaurant. It wasn’t your average complimentary hotel breakfast either. They had melon, berries, nuts, fresh oatmeal, biscuits, gravy… you get the point. You are brought your drinks and attended to by a waitress. I did feel obligated to tip as though it was an ordinary restaurant experience though.
I also loved the location. It’s smack dab in downtown Austin and it’s within eye shot of the Metro rail, about a block from the visitor center, several blocks but still within walking distance to the Capitol.
The room itself was comfy and modern. There was a conference going on in the area and it seemed to be to filled to capacity. That caused a huge issue. One morning the hot water was out, for what I was told was only 10 minutes. But my husband showered and shaved and still didn’t have hot water… that was at least a 30 minute process. I called down and was told that we were the only room with this issue. Later I found out that it was caused from so many people trying to use their showers at the same time and it effected the entire hotel will during that block of time. So if you’re looking into booking this hotel with a huge group or during a convention, beware. Another issue was that the room wasn’t properly stocked for a 3 night stay. I know that is common in hotels, but I think that when you’re staying a certain number of nights, it should’ve been stocked with more than the one roll of toilet paper and three towels that it had. The second morning, I requested more amenities and it took about 45 minutes for them to arrive. Keep in mind, I waited that time to begin my shower. I will say that once called back down, spoke with the manager and explained my complete frustration, he was more than apologetic and offered compensation. Kudos to them and their overall customer service skills. I left happy.

Newer and clean facility, perfect location, friendly staff, adorable and spacious rooms, great breakfast with low carb options — exactly what we expected. One of my fave Marriott hotels. Will stay here again.

Reasons I love staying at this Residence Inn:
(1) Free breakfast, replete with fresh fruit and plenty of protein, until 10:30am. Amazing.
(2) Clean and well-​stocked rooms. Paul Mitchell toiletries.
(3) Great location that is convenient to all downtown activities.

I ended up having to do another staycation in my own town. Unfortunately this time it was due to an unfortunate home situation. This place was one of the options our insurance gave us.
Pros
1. I guess this is a given for all Residence Inns but there was a good size kitchen and a full size fridge. There was also a couch that pulls out if you have more people.
2. they allow pets!
3. they offer a pretty decent continental breakfast… my highlights of the breakfast — a lady who cooks your made to order omelets at the omelet station, texas shaped waffles with a variety of toppings, biscuits and gravy station with breakfast meats, and on Saturdays, Chicken Fried Steak!
4. they have a lot of staff around downstairs on the main floor and everyone was always super nice.

6. our room was pretty quiet and nice
7. multiple down pillows — awesome
8. when we got home late night (1am) someone asked to see our keys outside before letting us into the hotel (not sure if this is a total pro… maybe a little bit of a con…)
9. elevators are secure to where you need to enter your key to select a floor.
Cons
1. The comforter was super thin. I was super cold even after getting the back up blanket in the closet. We ended up just bringing our down from home to the hotel.

Starbucks in lobby. Great security at night. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Would recommend.

There were a few things j liked about this hotel and some I really didn’t.
My mom booked two rooms for a Keller Williams conference and received the conference rate. Great price.
When we arrived they had only out us down for one room, not two. If my mom hadn’t printed out the confirmation there is no way they would have believed us we booked two rooms. She really needed another room because I was bunking with her and she had a coworker in the other room.
They sorted it out and put us in handicapped rooms they had left. Two beds wasn’t an option but oh well.
Didn’t mind being in a handicap room but something’s did not seem ADA accessible. Most things were wheel chair height but something’s were like how is anyone supposed to reach this while sitting down?!
The bed was comfortable and the room overall was clean.
We had a maintenance issue but someone came quickly to fix it.
The free breakfast was good. Loved the Texas shaped waffles, fruit, and breakfast potatoes. Eggs were okay. All you can eat breakfast that’s more than a bagel isn’t anything to sneeze at on vacation though. Great to save money in the morning.
The location is nice. Close to 6^th, the capital, UT Austin, and Lady Bird Lake.

Great place to stay in downtown Austin.
Walking distance to almost anything you want to see here, convention center, 6^th st, capitol, football, lake…
The front desk staff are fantastic, you feel like you are walking into a signature Marriott resort. Rooms are modern, clean, spacious. It can be a little bit noisy but hey, you came to Austin to have a good time right?
I love this place, so don’t tell anyone ok?

My brother did unnecessarily splurge on two suites for just 5 people, which obviously made the experience luxe, but nonetheless, this place was great!
Check-​in quick and easy, friendly staff.
The rooms were clean and came with pull out bed in the couch. Kitchen with full fridge/​stove/​dishwasher. Huge bathroom with paul mitchell products.
Complimentary breakfast until 10:30 on the weekend was delicious! Waffles shaped like texas! Soy milk! Fresh fruit! Oo la la.
One block away from 6^th street bars, and close to lots of restaurants.
Only thing is, this place has a «No-​Party Policy». They make it veryyyy clear you can’t be raging here at all hours of the night. In fact, when we checked in, they made all of us sign a paper saying we wouldn’t make noise disruptions. So I wouldn’t throw a 21^st birthday hotel party here, but otherwise, it’s great.

I’ve stayed at this Residence Inn several times. Location is awesome! Short walk to everything. It is attached to the Courtyard so if the rates are similar, I stay at the Courtyard since you only get ½ the Marriott points at Residence compared to Courtyard.
All the staff are super nice and friendly.

Excellent customer service and great location!
We paid for a queen + sofa bed studio, but was upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite that had a kitchenette. They provided us with Paul Mitchell toiletries! The free breakfast was delish! We didn’t park in the garage and was always able to get street parking. Even though we still had to pay for street parking, it was less than paying for daily parking. The location was convenient to walk to restaurants and bars and even campus if you’re up for the exercise.
My only complaints:
1-​sofa bed… NOT comfortable. You can feel the springs. My sister-​in-​law actually slept in it and said it was okay, but I thought sleeping on the sofa itself was more comfortable.
2-​Residence Inn is connected to Courtyard so the breakfast is actually in Champions restaurant on the Courtyard side. I felt awkward going down in the my pjs and getting breakfast in a restaurant. I’m used to breakfast being served in a small dining area in the other Marriott Inns… or perhaps I just shouldn’t been so sloppy in the first place getting breakfast.
3– Being in downtown has it’s price. At night, we heard sirens every now and then — not sure if it was because it was graduation weekend and people were partying way too hard.
Overall, I would definitely stay again.

I was in town earlier this week for a conference at the convention center.
The location could not have been more perfect. The front desk staff and valet were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic — spacious and clean. Bed — so comfy! The maid even organized and tidied my mess of toiletries and cosmetics in a nice little formation. (I was very impressed by that!)
Breakfast at Champions located in the hotel was delicious and the staff there were also incredibly friendly.
Loved the free wi-​fi too!
I love all Marriott chains, but this Residence Inn definitely exceeded my already high expectations when it comes to hotels.

A huge room with ample room for guests and to work. Really nice kitchen and full size fridge. Lots of free extras including a very good, breakfast, microwave popcorn and happy hour. Very friendly staff and a nice, clean hotel in a great location.

The best thing about this Residence Inn is probably the location. It’s only a couple of blocks away from 6^th street so you don’t have to worry about finding parking or taking a cab home after a night of drinking on 6^th st.
The bad part about this Residence Inn? Its location! Because it’s smack in the middle of downtown, the rate at this hotel is high! You can expect to pay upward to $ 300 or $ 400/​night if there are events in Austin. I stayed here to do Tough Mudder but at that weekend, they also had the moto grand prix and the MS150 going on so their rate was about $ 300/​night. The only reason I’m not complaining is because I used my Marriott points so it didn’t cost me anything, but even so, I had to use A LOT of points to be able to stay here.
The hotel is nice and they provide either garage or valet parking. Garage parking will cost you $ 23/​night + tax and valet will cost you $ 29/​night + tax. When I stayed here, they had a sign outside of their garage saying «garage full» and to encourage you to use the valet. However, when we went inside, there were still plenty of spaces available.
I believe every room comes with a full size pull out bed and they provide extra blanket in the closet. Very convenient if you have multiple people that would like to split the rate of the hotel with you.
Wi-​fi is complimentary. I didn’t even need an access code to connect to their wi-​fi connection. This is very convenient since I don’t usually remember their access code when I want to connect, say, at the lobby.
Let’s not forget the complimentary breakfast that you get at Champions sports bar which is attached to the Courtyard (same building). It’s real breakfast, and not just some toasts and butter that you would otherwise get as «continental breakfast» at lower end hotels.
If you can afford to stay here, or if you have friends who are willing to split the rate with you, I recommend staying here.

The Marriott Residence Inn on 4^th St. in downtown Austin is a solid hotel. A group of us booked three rooms here over Cinco de Mayo weekend this past weekend. The hotel is conveniently located just a couple blocks south of 6^th St. and a few blocks north of Lady Bird Lake (Colorado River), making it easy to walk to all of the city’s popular bars, restaurants, and tourist attractions. In addition, the city bus (Capital Metro) stops right at the corner of 4^th St. and Trinity, next to the hotel, making getting to and from the airport an absolute breeze.
The theme at Residence Inn is the hotel rooms are supposed to feel more like a home than a hotel room. For example, our «room» actually had two rooms inside — the bedroom/​bathroom and a living area/​kitchen. The two rooms were divided by a wall with another door.
The kitchen came fully equipped with a full-​sized fridge (and ice maker), stove/​cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and kitchen sink with garbage disposal. Other kitchenware such as silverware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates, bowls and glasses, even knives, a cutting board, and paper towels were provided. The living area had an L-​shaped couch, a section of which folded out into a bed. Both rooms had Philips flatscreen TVs mounted onto the walls with swivel brackets, so we could watch TV from the couch or in bed. Satellite reception, but no HD unfortunately.
The hotel rooms were very clean and the place felt relatively new (carpet, wallpaper, furniture, etc.). Thermostat worked well. The rooms had nice views of downtown Austin. My room on the 11^th floor was nice and quiet at night, so I slept well. Comfortable bed, but the pillows could have been bigger. Note: My room faced 4^th St. The rooms on the opposite side of the building face 5^th and 6^th Sts, so they might be more susceptible to late-​night noise from the bars.
Valet, front desk, and housekeeping staff were all friendly and helpful. Free buffet-​style breakfast at the adjacent Champions Sports Bar next door. It’s not bad, but nothing special about it. I did like the Texas sports memorabilia on the walls, TVs playing ESPN, and the waffle machine that made waffles in the shape of Texas. The breakfast staff also did a good job. Attentive and welcoming.
The Residence Inn is also connected to the Courtyard. Free Wi-​Fi. No password or Web login required.
