Residence Inn Austin-University Area

Steer clear of this hotel. Compared to other residence inns I have stayed in this was by far the least impressive room. 10 minutes after checking in I found several large hairs in the bed sheets and under the pillow. I questioned if the sheets had even been cleaned. I decided to check out immediately and stay somewhere else.

BE CAREFUL BOOKING HERE… My wife myself and some family stayed here for a quick trip to Austin. Overall the stay and the room were enjoyable. We stayed in a two bedroom suite, which was great, roomy and they had a full fridge and kitchen.
The downside to this hotel, they charged us IN FULL at the time of making the reservation, and once AGAIN at the time of checking out.
Unfortunately for us, we didnt notice until we got back to Delaware. The bad part about the whole thing was getting our money back. It took us months until we finally saw the money back in our account. After repeated email’s and phone calls, not once did we receive any type of apology.
My wife talked to the woman working at the front desk on several occasions. She was told, I see the mistake and will have it corrected… It never came through. The manager was almost non existent, numerous emails and voicemails were left for him… no returns. After calling the Marriot headquater’s, they finally contacted the gm of this hotel. Luckily, that finally set the record straight and we received our money back.
All I can say is keep a close eye on your bank account when booking here, it is a P.I.T.A. to get it corrected

gotta complain. don’t stay in room 222. they are doing construction on other side of wall. 7am they started cutting through wood and metal. banging and sawing throughout the day. why would they rent the room knowing there’s ongoing construction?

This was a very nice hotel. Probably one of the nicest Residence Inns I have stayed in. They lobby was very clean and the front desk staff was very friendly and polite.
The room was nice also the only negative I would have is the bathroom. The bathroom had a shower only but the bottom of the shower where you stand did not look like it had been cleaned. It looked like they only cleaned the glass doors. I did not mention anything to the front desk staff because I would only be there a couple days so I just wore shower shoes. Also, the door seemed to be to big for the bathroom. In order to close the door you have to stand on the side of the toilet. There isn’t enough space between the toilet and the door to close it any other way.
Ok rant over.:-) but the room other then that was fine.

Great hotel! Everything was new and clean. My family stayed for one night and everyone really enjoyed it. Everyone working there is really nice. The breakfast was good too. I’d highly recommend it. It was very close to everything we wanted to see and do in Austin.

I stayed here 5 nights and it was absolutely awful. Random hairs all over the bedding, towels, shower, sink and floors. After night one i woke up with a itchy bump my leg. Ok no big deal, I figured it was nothing. Night two I wake up with another one. Ok what is biting the crap out of me?! I gave up after night 3 asked to be moved rooms. The front desk clerk apologized but refused to have the hotel pay for my laundry to get rid of whatever bugs were in their hotel. I spoke to a maid that worked there about the bugs and she shrugged and said it happens people bring their pets here. Now after 5 nights and a room change I went home with itchy souvenirs on my legs and feeling completely disgusted. It looks nice and clean but it is all a façade, don’t look too close or you’ll go home with souvenirs. Awful!!!

I was 100% impressed with this hotel. I made the booking online, and sometimes pictures can be deceiving. But there were enough good reviews to make me give it a try. Not to mention the VALUE!
We reserved a 2 bedroom-​room. This included a very good sized living room with a pull out couch, a full kitchen, 2 big bedrooms, and a big bathroom for each room. This room was in the low 200s! I couldn’t believe it! It was new, fresh smelling, bright, beautifully decorated, and CLEAN! Clean is a make or break for me when it comes to hotels.
The hotel is in the middle of many shopping centers, and only about 10 – 15 min away from the capital, and 10 – 15 going the other way towards 6^th street and main downtown.
They served an included (!) brunch/​breakfast in the morning, which we took full advantage of. They had fresh fruit (very sweet and in season), oatmeal with a lot of options, cereal, pastries, cut up cantaloupe and honeydew, yoplait yogurt cups, scrambled eggs, sausage, bananas, and best of all: a number of Belgium waffle makers with a whole array of mix-​ins and toppings! It was all very good, although not fancy, but I liked it that way. No lines, not crowded, and serve yourself. Oh, the coffee was good and strong with all the creamer flavors you could want.
As you can see, I feel like the care that hotels put into their breakfast options say a lot about how they are going to treat your stay. I also love food, so that’s that. :)
The seven of us had a blast at this nice hotel not breaking the bank was the cherry on the cake! Thanks Residence Inn for a fantastic bachelorette weekend! We will definitely be back for the next 6 bachelorette parties. :)

Stayed at this location for two nights in January. The prices were more than fair. I stayed in the King Studio, which included a full kitchen and living area.
I love love love how this hotel is only a year old. Everything was well kept, clean, and new looking. The staff were also incredibly nice and helpful!
Your stay here also includes a complimentary hot breakfast with the hot items changing out daily such as biscuits and gravy, potato pancakes, and biscuit sandwiches to name a few.
FYI, the hotel is located in the same plaza as Home Depot, in between 51^st and Barbara Jordan, right on the corner of 51^st and Lancaster.

By far this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in and I travel alot! The front desk gave us a complimentary room upgrade to a 2 room suite!!! This was a great suprise and our 20yr old son loved having his own room. I would give this hotel 10 stars if I could!

Disappointing.
We were excited to spend a night in Austin and thought this hotel would be perfect. With only needing to stay for a single night in Austin, we thought about going the cheap route and finding a hotel for like $ 90 but this hotel was so conveniently located, free parking, and was new — it seemed perfect.
We stay for a single night on a Saturday. Free easy parking was a plus. The hotel is new and is clean and up to date. The lobby looked great. Our room was large including a kitchenette, king bed, couch, desk, large TV, bathroom, coffee table. The couch had a small stain on it but nothing horrible. I found a few small hairs in the bathroom which was gross. So far, it wasn’t the worst stay. We took a quick nap before we met friends that evening and found that the AC blows really hard and hits half the bed head on. It was like being in an arctic winter. We left the AC off that night but woke up hot. When we turned it on, it froze me. With such a large room, why does the AC hot the bed?
The shower: opening and closing the shower door was awful. The ball bearings were bad and it was a metal on metal screeching noise each time we slid the door open/​closed. Also, with such a large room, why is the toilet/​shower space so small? The shower is large but if you open the door one way you have to climb over the toilet, the other way and you are in the door to the room. It’s badly designed.
The WORST: We went to bed at 1am (we were on vacation) and at 6-​something AM, the fire alarm went off. We quickly threw some clothes on and started down the hall. The alarm turned off after about 5 – 7 minutes, but of course we continued to leave the building. We went outside (alarm off at this point) and a few other confused people were out there. We go inside to the front desk and the staff is just standing there. We said «there are people just standing outside» and one of the front desk staff who was just standing around with her purse and a newspaper said «oh ok, I’ll go out and tell them». Um… what the hell? The fire alarm goes off at before 7am on a Sunday morning and you aren’t worried about informing guests about the reason for the alarm? Is it safe to go back in? I was tired and just wanted to go back to sleep. I noticed that they just went about their merry way. Some other confused people decided to go start breakfast since it was that time.
I still have NO idea what set off the fire alarm since we were never told anything. No one ever apologized. When we checked out at 9:30am (after never having gotten back to sleep), the fire alarm was never acknowledged. No apology. Nothing.
I can’t believe I paid like $ 40 more to stay here because it was new and convenient and didn’t even get a full night’s sleep. I will never ever stay here again.
I went on the Residence Inn website to contact the hotel directly and found that there are reviews on there from people who have stayed at the hotel. One of the first ones I read said that the family stayed there 3 nights and was woken up 2 of the 3 nights by the fire alarm! Obviously they have a problem and I wish I would have read this before staying there.
Oh, and I looked all over their website so I could contact the hotel directly with my concerns but there is not a single email for the hotel. There isn’t even a form you can fill out online. There is only a phone number. Once again disappointed.

Stayed here monday, the building is new and very nice.
Our room was spacious with king size bed, the kitchen had a big refrigerator, microwave, electric cooker, toaster, coffee maker.
Front desk staff are very friendly and very proffessional. the lobby is spacious with computers to check your email etc, there are individual tables with tvs. i thought that was a very good idea.
Full complimentary breakfast is awesome.

This hotel has some really great things and some oddities.
Pros… location. We are here once a month for meetings and it is close to the highways. It has everything imaginable to cook or stay in. Love that microwave popcorn is in the room :). Full breakfast in the morning is great.
Cons… some things are designed strangely. There is no sink with the toilet so you have to open the door without washing hands. There is no towel rack around the sink. There is no inside door handle in the shower.
We love staying here and definitely will again.

New hotel! Opened 1÷14÷14. The hotel is clean, new and conveniently located next to shopping and restaurants. The bed was comfortable and room was well insulated. I would stay here again if in the area.
I arrived in the city with no reservations and decided to find some place new to stay. I searched and came across a «new» listing. The rooms were standard for a Residence Inn and other amenities were as well. I was least impressed with the service offered by the assistant manager. I received a room key from the desk agent only to learn it was a handicap accessible room. Went back downstairs without entering because I knew the layout and it did not suit my needs. When I returned, I the assistant manager was at the counter alone. I mentioned I paid the rack rate for a standard studio but received an accessible room. I went on to indicate that I would be leaving early and really wanted a great shower. I was told I could «upgrade» for more money but if I did not want to pay extra, I would have to keep the accessible room. When I noted I confirmed a standard room and it was reportedly guaranteed, she shrugged. In turn, I asked to have the reservation cancelled and I would go elsewhere. She printed a receipt and proceeded to bid me farewell. Before walking out, I asked her to provide me with the name and contact information for the general manager and she passed me the card. I then asked her to get him on the line before I left the property. The assistant manager then asked if I would be okay with a complimentary upgrade. I noted I really wanted a standard shower. She then offered a regular room with a standard shower or a suite. I inquired how the unavailable rooms became available and she muttered some corny response.
Near the end, the desk agent returned and apologized saying she is still learning the room numbers and did not realize what she placed me in. …So, either the assistant manager was PMSing or being down right ugly. Either way, she was moved by the request to call the manager on the spot. In the future, if this should happen to you, ask for the manager too!
