History

Established in 2009.

It started when my grandparents were alive and I used to visit with them often. Seeing that they fell into a cycle of clipping coupons, buying in bulk and what was on sale… let’s say they were buying canned and frozen prepared meals, much like many people trying to stay on a budget. Many ingredients they could not even pronounce. Both, thankfully were very healthy genetically, but it inspired me to have them keep those cans closed and start replacing their frozen prepared meals from the freezer section with meals I made for them with fresh ingredients. Over the years I have come across a variety of people with all sorts of circumstances that don’t allow for planning meals, market shopping, prepping, cooking and cleaning up for their meal times. The concept I felt could touch a vast array of people with a true need. A service that could have an immediate impact on enhancing a person’s life and alleviating some pressures that come along with putting food on the table.

Like most of my career path, I have been through the college of hard Knox. This venture much the same. Prior to starting Soup with TLC I ran a Temporary Staffing company where we provided temporary people to the healthcare industry in over 40 states. Increased the revenue from about 1M the first year to when I resigned we were doing almost 19M and that all happened in a 5 year time line. With the Temporary staffing company we helped find people work and helped fill a gap with our clients. Starting Soup with TLC has been a dream for over 15 years and now it is a reality. I love the Central Texas market. The people we deliver too on a weekly basis are incredible. I feel very blessed.

This is a HORRIBLY RUN business and I would NEVER use them again. I placed an order and they have BLOWN ME OFF and failed to deliver for FOUR TIMES. It’s a month and a half after my order and they still haven’t delivered. The owner, Teri, is completely unapologetic and takes no responsibility for misleading customers week after week that they will actually receive their order.
I am an attorney here in town, and unfortunately, I can’t recommend this business to clients, nor to family, nor to friends.

I have been using Soup with TLC for about 4 months now. They are hit or miss. When it is good it is very good. Their service is spotty sometimes. About once a month things go wrong. Their verity is good and I am almost always pleased with the food. The prices are really great. You can’t beat the value. Just be prepared to deal with issues every once in a while.
I 3-​stared these guys for the following reasons.
About once a month, the deliveries get delayed or cancelled.
My food has been burnt twice in the 4 months. When I complained, I was told they would «put less char» on my grilled meals. This response upset me because, I love my food charred, I just hate it when it burnt. The 2 meals that were burnt were REALLY burnt, as in the only thing you could taste is burnt. (since I complained, I have not had any more problems with burnt food)
I really do like this service, it just has a few kinks to work out. For the money, it is more than worth it.
If you are a person who can deal with the occasional issue and have some patients, this a great service. If you have a low threshold for problems, I suggest you go elsewhere.

This place is a disaster. I placed an online order which was essentially ignored so I contacted the owner, Teri, via email. She claimed to have not received it and told me to email it to her which I promptly did. What followed was several weeks of broken promises about delivery dates, numerous excuses, countless emails and too many headaches to count.
Clearly Teri was not prepared for the additional business her Groupon brought in but I kept thinking to myself, «Isn’t convenience the whole point of a home delivery food business?» Rather than simplifying my life, I was forced to send close to thirty emails and make many phone calls to receive something I’d already paid for. Honestly, I think she collected her Groupon money and hoped everyone would just forget about their orders when she made it difficult for them.
After waiting over two months to receive my order, I finally threw in the towel and contacted Groupon for a refund. Coincidentally, part of my order FINALLY arrived that week. The food was mediocre and the portion size was not what I’d ordered/​paid for (2 portions vs. 3). Two days later another paltry portioned tasteless entrée arrived. A couple of days after that Teri emailed me about having cancelled my Groupon. She had the nerve to tell me to let Groupon know that I’d received some of my order and to make sure my credit was adjusted. Never mind that Groupon’s policy does not work that way nor that the bland minimal portion of the order I did receive took two and a half months to arrive, Teri just wanted to hold onto her Groupon bank and couldn’t care less about her customers.
Consider yourselves warned and stay far away from this place.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this company was so unprofessional that I felt obligated to warn others. I placed a groupon order through this company back in December, and every week since then I have received emails explaining that my order was being postponed till the following week. There was never an explanation only a cancellation email. Finally after weeks of postponement emails, I received an email on 1⁄26 recommending that I request a refund from groupon!
I can’t say anything about the food since I never received a single delivery, but I can warn you about their horrid customer service!

And now for something completely different!
Like so many other reviewers, Soup with TLC came to my attention when they ran a Groupon. I waited to use it and was so nervous about the poor reviews here that I almost requested a refund from Groupon. SWTLC extended their acceptance of the Groupon past its expiration date, so I finally bit the bullet and placed an order early this month.
Unlike some have reported, I got prompt confirmation of my order and responses to my queries. We ordered the 4 meal/​4 servings Weekly Meal Plan.
The food itself was tasty, though not as good as my own cooking. To be fair, though, I’m told that I’m an excellent cook, so this might not be the fairest comparison… lol. I do agree with another reviewer that portion sizes were all over the place. Taking the food on its own would make this a 4-​star review.
Bringing it down to 3 stars are four issues I encountered:
1) The first delivery was later than it should of been because the delivery person initially dropped off the wrong batch of food. They were swapping out the food when my husband got home.
2) I requested a vegetable substitute for a rice side and didn’t get it.
3) The Wednesday delivery only had one meal because supplies for one of the meals we’d ordered had come in late. I was notified of this via email Wednesday morning, but the initial email was so vague on details that I had to request clarification.
4) The delayed meal that was supposed to be delivered Thursday got substituted with a completely different meal, supposedly because «one batch wasn’t perfect». We were not asked what we wanted in replacement, but told AT 5 PM ON DELIVERY DAY that a substitution had been made. It turned out to be a pasta dish, which I couldn’t eat. Thankfully, my husband could, and he reported that it was fairly tasty.
In summary, I think the owner is a very good cook, but she desperately needs a business manager to handle logistics. I think this service would be great for singles or people who don’t cook much, but it doesn’t do a whole lot for me.

Ok, so my review will be pretty much the same. This business doesn’t even deserve one star. I’ve had a similar experience with my Groupon. I was able to place an order and schedule delivery. Unfortunately, the food never showed up. The delivery has been rescheduled, on their end, 3 times. Yep, that’s right, I’m currently waiting, for the 4th time, for my food to be delivered. I absolutely think people deserve 2nd chances, but 3rd and 4th? Come on! The incompetence of Teri at SWTLC is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. She’s not the slightest bit apologetic for the inconvenience. At this point, I’m just embarrassed for her. If I don’t receive my meals today (and I’m sure I won’t), I will contact Groupon and get a refund.

Victim of the Groupon scam.
Never use this business — there is apparently zero good faith going on here.
Paid for my Groupon, attempted to use in December only to find that they were extending the Groupon offer past the December 28 expiration date because they had accepted all of the orders they could before the new year.
I was okay with that, until this 2nd week of January when I went to the website to place my Groupon order… they are now not accepting any Groupon orders as – now it’s posted — there was a NEW expiration date of January 7 to place orders. I’m supposedly 4 days too late.
No communication. Nothing good to say at all.
I sure hope the $ 50 I lost with this outfit helps them pay for rent for a month or two after this business folds.

A wonderful friend bought me this groupon when I was injured. She saw that they had a pretty big menu and having food delivered would have been convenient since I couldn’t cook for myself.
But the size of the menu doesn’t matter if they don’t actually deliver anything.
Initially I was having folks rearrange their schedule so someone could open the door for the delivery guy. After two cancelled deliveries I was advised that they would just leave the food in a cooler if I put one outside. So then I had to find someone who would let me borrow a cooler. That cooler was still never used by Soup with TLC because they still never bothered to fill a single order.
From the owners emails it seems like she’s having lots of bad luck and things just aren’t going as planned. I just know they weren’t ever there for me when I needed them. If I need to count on having food delivered in the future it looks like I’ll have to get Pizza Hut. (They actually show up with hot food each time I order it.)
OH! And I’d like to say because it’s so hard for their delivery people to ever show up for work, or find your street, or {enter lame excuse here}, I even offered to have someone go PICK UP the order so that we could be sure to get it. I was advised that wasn’t an option. Kind of makes me wonder where they cook all this stuff. I mean is Teri cooking all this in her kitchen and can’t fill all the orders because she only has a small stove like the one in my kitchen? Or is it one of those food trailers? Do they really make stuff?
Hopefully they’ll get it together in 2011, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Updated: I posted this same review on the Groupon discussion board for this deal on Thursday where I discovered Teri was replying to posts. Within about 15 minutes of my post, she replied on the board and also sent me an email. She stated that they had emailed me regarding my order but I did not receive an email, which appears to be a common occurrence. Perhaps they should choose a different internet provider because it appears a lot of customers aren’t receiving their emails. Anyways, she stated they were booked for that week, but if there was a day to start deliveries the next week they would «ink it on the calendar.» Perhaps I am a fool, but I think everyone deserves a second chance. I replied to her that I would like for the deliveries to start on Monday. I did not receive a reply, imagine that. So, on Sunday I emailed her again asking if delivery would be starting on Monday, if not I needed to make alternate arrangements. She did reply, and yes, delivery would begin the next day. Then about 9:30 pm, I received another email from her stating delivery would be between 2 – 4 Monday afternoon. Monday morning at 8 am I get an email from Teri stating she was ill, and there would be no deliveries that day. Deliveries would resume on Tuesday. Well, I just got another email stating everyone in her company is now ill and that all deliveries-​normal and groupon-​would be cancelled for the week. Not only were they all cancelled, but she would be unable to honor any Groupon orders until after the holidays. The groupon expires 12÷28÷10. She stated she would be extending the expiration date on the groupons, but at this point a) who’s going to believe her and b) why bother?

There’s not really much more that I can say if you’ve read the other reviews. I was excited to try out this service because they had many low carb options that were really reasonably priced, even without the groupon, and I thought it would be nice to have a few prepared meals in the fridge to snack on. After reading a few complaints on the groupon forums I waited for the initial rush to die down to place my order and tried to be open minded. I got the delivery as planned but one of the entrees was missing! Teri had responded to an earlier complaint that they only deliver two meals at a time for optimal freshness but come on, I’m capable of ordering what my household will eat and as a delivery service they should do just that!
I sent an email the morning after my first delivery questioning the missing meal and got no response. A week later, the day of my second delivery came and went without any food so I sent another email. No response.
The one star is for the food; it was pretty good! Since my time is important to me, as evidenced by my interest in a meal delivery service, I decided to get a refund from groupon instead of trying to keep on them about my deliveries. I regret that I won’t be trying any more of their enticing options. Best of luck to them in the future.

Sadly, Soup with TLC had the great idea to run a Groupon but didn’t plan for how it would handle the influx of orders. As a pre-​Groupon patron, I can attest to the quality of the food since I was actually able to place an order and get food delivered. The first few times the food was quite impressive and the customer service was outstanding. Then I definitely could see everything go downhill– even pre-​groupon I was growing a little frustrated, food quality and portions were a all over the place– one week a two person portion of a particular entrée would be delivered in a container half the size from the previous week and taste vastly different. The final straw was post-​Groupon. Was expecting a food delivery on a Monday and it never showed up. When I emailed the owner to inquire the response was that the new delivery person delivered it to the wrong house… and there was no mention of re-​delivering until I pushed to get my food the following day. When I finally received the order on Tuesday, I saw there were some substitutions made that did not sit well with me. Sent an email to ask for the correct meals and never heard back. That was my last order with SWTLC.

Bought a groupon for Soup with TLC and was never able to actually schedule/​receive a delivery.
Communication is sparse and it is hard to get any sort of confirmation or even responses to emails/​phone calls. I recommend avoiding this business since they have definitely overbooked themselves.
