Sushi A-Go-Go

Sadly, both locations of Sushi A-​Go-​Go are closed — the owners have shut down the trailers in order to concentrate on their new restaurant, Kome. :-(

Leo is awesome and makes AMAZING rolls. The place is nice and quiet and peaceful each time we’ve been and we really like the food.
We have had the Rock’n roll, Texan roll, Texas Surf & Turf roll and Summer time roll. All are so great! The Green Texas Sauce is so freakin good!
The prices are excellent, the food is so good and Leo is just the best.
We love it.

I have a weakness for sushi. And now that work has brought me walking distance from Sushi A-​Go-​Go, I also have a big problem.
On my first venture out, I got the Sunshine roll (salmon, mango, avocado), and Go-​Go roll (BBQ eel, avocado, cream cheese). The Sunshine roll had all my favorite ingredients and was fresh and light but was good but a little plain. The Go-​Go roll was superb!
My second venture was spicy all around. My friend and I got the Summertime roll (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado, spicy sauce), Swamp roll (spicy tabasco crawfish and pickled okra), and Dynamite roll (chunked tuna, spicy sauce, avocado). My favorite was the Summertime with its tasty shrimp tempura. The Swamp roll was odd tasting to me and I didn’t care for it much. The Dynamite roll was a little underwhelming but still tasty.
Service was fast, prices are good and there are some good rolls on their menu. I would definitely hit this place up again.
Sadly, I went by today for lunch and they were replaced by an unmarked orange trailer. A little investigating on their Facebook page told me that trailer has moved to 4917 Airport Blvd. So, unfortunately, there goes my big problem.

I know what you’re thinking: sushi from a trailer? Could food get anymore suspect?
Fear not, Unilocalers: the sushi was anything but! The rolls are delicious and unique. and the fish? Ridiculously fresh!
I got the Sunshine roll (salmon, mango, and avocado!) to curb my recent sushi cravings. I can’t believe I’ve never had mango in my sushi rolls before — it adds a nice sweetness and complements the salmon and the avocado well.
My only not-​so-​bueno? The edamame. My order was a bit dry — I have a feeling if I had gotten the edamame during lunch, it would’ve been more fresh.
Despite the edamame mishap, I’ve already mentally bookmarked what I’ll be getting on my future return visits. Fresh and unique sushi rolls for cheap? Domo arigato, Sushi A-​Go-​Go!

This place was freakin amazing. Cheap, friendly service and the sushi rolls were amazing. We ended up walking away with our goodies for about $ 15 total.
I got the Rock n Roll + (dont remember the exact name) and the Hubs got the crab salad roll and miso soup. First off — i didnt realize my roll had eel in addition to eel sauce. For those who dont know me, I love eel sauce but I hate eel. Also, I’m not a fan of Miso soup. I stole some of my husband’s soup cause it was freezing outside and it was amazingly good — it had a nice amount of seaweed and other goodies in there that gave it a really good flavor.
After chatting with the guy working the trailer and deciding what we wanted we got the food fairly quickly — my roll had 2 tempura shrimp, eel, cream cheese, avocado, and eel sauce — i have to say I wasnt thrilled with the gigantic size of the roll but when I was able to shove it in my mouth I was in sushi heaven. I snatched a taste of the crab salas roll but I kept giving my husband the evil eye just in case he got the idea to take some of mine (sorry it was so good i had to be greedy)
They also had a sign posted that they teach sushi making classes in-​home for certain rates. Dang it! If they were in the DFW id definitely schedule something like this!
Anyways — this place has seriously some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. This is definitely on the list of places i NEED to stop by on my next trip to Austin

Hands down my favorite sushi joint in Austin. Skip the jazzy décor and swanky atmosphere of all those fancy sushi restaurants that make you pay a premium for the «sushi experience.» Sushi A-​Go-​Go brings the goods for cheap.
My recommendations:
Sunshine roll ($ 6.00) — mango + salmon = delicious combination
Go-​go roll ($ 5.50) — eel & avocado are usually staple ingredients in any yummy roll, IMO!

Last week I attended a training class near Highland mall and decided to take advantage of being in a different location during lunch and try sushi restaurants I had yet to experience. Well on day two I couldn’t resist and had to revisit Sushi A Go Go!
I typically have good experiences at Sushi A Go Go and love that in true Austin Fashion it serves great food made to order right out of a trailer. Sushi A Go Go has several picnic tables and umbrellas to ward off the scorching Texas weather. The staff is always friendly and accommodating.
There are two locations, one at Barton Springs and the other on Medical Pkwy near the Triangle. The fish is always fresh and they have 8 vegetarian rolls to include a great Mango & Avocado roll. The prices are very reasonable ranging from $ 3.50-$ 12 with all but 2 rolls running less than $ 6. I love the Dynamite roll, fairly simple roll consisting of chunked tuna with their original spicy sauce & Avocado. Because they do get fairly busy during lunch (especially from noon on) they do take call ahead orders.
Barton Springs locations is great during ACL (stop on the way) and it is BYOB!

Bff and I got to use our ecoupons here yesterday ($ 5 for $ 15 of sushi? hells yeah!). We got here around 5 o’clock with no wait and perused the menu. Again, trying to avoid avocado has really gotten me outta my sushi box. No tuna and avocado or salmon and avocado for me (no Sunshine Roll either :() so I ordered the Trio Roll, a Swamp Roll and the Texas Surf and Turf minus the avocado. Bff also got the Trio, the Dynamite Crunchy and the Tuna with crab salad.
Nice white sushi chef said it would take about 10 – 15 minutes to prepare so we went over to the convenience store for drinks. With our indecisiveness, it took about that long for us to make it back. Convenient!
The Trio Roll was as sushi should be. Fresh and subtle in flavor. Delish! Then I moved on to the Swamp Roll. Flavor explosion! Spicy and sweet crawfish paired with pickled okra («okura» on the menu. NOT a ghetto misspelling as we were informed, but the Japanese word) was definitely new and different and really very good.
Last and best was the Surf and Turf. This was eye-​rollin, moanin good. It was a flavor orgy in my mouth. The grilled steak and the tempura shrimp were dirty dancin on the front of my tongue, while their partners, cilantro and jalapeño snuck off to do the nasty behind my back molars, and all was covered like a foam party by that tasty green «Texas sauce». This roll should come with it’s own «Let’s Get It On» soundtrack. Only $ 7.50 cover for that party!
My only complaint and it seems universal, is not enough soy sauce! The menu says 1 soy/​ginger/​wasabi per roll but we got 6 rolls total and only found 3 packs in our bag. Luckily, Bff had some at home, but always check or buy extra for $.25.

The last couple times I’ve visited, something’s been different. Maybe it’s seasonal, and has something to do with the fish. But I’ve noticed the sushi is just not as flavorful and delicious as I’ve come to expect from Sushi A-​Go-​Go. I wish I could put my finger on what’s different, but all I can say is — it’s less flavorful. I’m going to try the Barton Springs location in the next week or so, and see if it’s any different.
Another disappointment — the Crunchy Dynamite Roll had some kind of puffed rice or something instead of tempura bits. I don’t know what it is, but it adds nothing to the roll. I’d avoid it and just get the Dynamite Roll, if that’s what you want.
Hopefully it’s just a blip in the radar, and my next visit will be outstanding, as I’ve come to expect.

A great place to fix those sushi cravings. Your general sushi fair located in a convenient cart. The rolls aren’t mind blowing, but very satisfying and what you would expect from any above average sushi joint.
Surprisingly fresh ingredients for a trailer right next to a gas station, and really friendly workers. I recommend the tuna avocado roll and crunch roll, again… nothing surprising, just good old favorites. It’s kind of funny how sushi is considered a comfort food now, right?

I’ve been here twice now. The first time I got the sunshine roll (salmon, mango, avocado). It was deeeelicious. The second time, I got the trio (salmon, yellowtail, tuna). It was good, but there was soo much wasabi on it that I needed to take a break to recompose after each piece. Seriously, what is up with people giving me really spicy food without me asking for it (you can read about my dinner experience at Thai Kitchen in my review)? :(It was kind of small so I split a fat samurai (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, krab salad, shrimp, avocado, cucumber) to fill up. It was ginormous and also deeelicous. Thankfully this time, they were not as wasabi packed (maybe they saw my tears and felt pity).
Overall, the rolls are fresh and yummy. Not too many raw options (understandably) and seating outside can be pretty uncomfortable in the summer. But definitely a not-​to-​be-​missed experience getting sushi from a trailer.

I hate realizing places are overhyped. I’m impressed that sushi served out of a trailer is as good as it is, but it’s nothing to rave about. The Shu Mai was delicious, but the sushi was mediocre and poorly wrapped. A lot of the selections are cooked items, probably since they can’t keep that many uncooked items fresh. So if you love your sushi with raw fish (like me), you’re down to probably 5 selections. No bueno.
Maybe it was because I ate sushi outside in the Texas heat, but I didn’t enjoy this place as much as everyone else on Unilocal did. However, it is worth a go (go. ha!) for the experience, AND it’s cheap. And you should probably get it to go if the weather is too hot.

Am I the only one not really feeling it? I’ve been three times now, but I’m still not that impressed.
Sure, this place is convenient. Call in, wait 10 – 20 minutes and your sushi is ready. The sushi is fresh, which is always preferable, and the sunshine roll is good and refreshing.
But unfortunately, I can’t get over their limited menu and some weird/​tacky items. Nothing really stands out or sounds appealing to me (except the sunshine roll). One of their rolls even has okra in it; my friend ordered it but it was not tasty at all. The crunchy dynamite roll that was neither crunchy nor dynamite. I’ve also had the trio roll (yellowtail, salmon and tuna) and that was nothing special.
Still, the sunshine roll is awesome. The mango makes it the perfect summertime roll (they have an actual Summertime roll too but I haven’t tried it.)

This place rocks. It’s sushi in a Shell gas station parking lot. We used to pick up the pre-​made sushi rolls at Central Market, but never again. How can one beat a phone-​it-​in, made-​to-​order sushi dinner for two for about $ 20-​$ 25? Without a doubt, the Crunchy Dynamite, Sunshine Roll, Trio Roll, and Spider Roll are our favorites. The Longhorn Roll (with steak) is probably the only disappointing roll.
My wife swears by their seaweed salad.

Sushi a yum-​yum. But they didn’t check with me first, so the current name is fine. It looks nice emblazoned on that shiny truck of theirs which I am going to kidnap and ride off with.
I tried the Sunshine and Dynamite rolls. Yummmm yum yum yum. I did feel a burst of sunshine in my tummy as I ate the delicious combo of avocado, mango, and salmon. Fresh as a summer rose after rain, or something earthly like that. So happy-​making that I wasn’t sure I needed to eat the other roll.
But eat it I did — had you worried there for a second, huh. It was dy-​no-​mite too. It also contained avocado, which I’m apparently crushing on these days. Both rolls were crazy prices; most are $ 6 and under.
The Freshness Police would have nothing on this little spot. Everything tasted divine, and the guy who works it is friendly and sweet. What more could you possibly ask from sushi out of a trailer? Exactly. 1.9 trillion stars.

Wow, absolutely worth the hype for me. If you appreciate great quality fish in sushi and enjoy rolls this is a must. I’ve been to most of the best sushi places in town and the freshness here was entirely admirable, regardless of the fact that it’s coming out of a trailer. Tried it on a Sunday and no worries on the quality of the fish.
A few things to note: I went by and they had a half hour wait to get food, came back in half hour after placing an order and still took another 30 min. I appreciate that they’re busy and it’s a small place, I think it’s still worth it but I would suggest calling ahead and placing an order with at least 30 min to make your life easier.
They didn’t have many rolls based around one type of fish, which I feel is preferable for sushi… I can’t distinguish the taste of each individual fish when I’m having 3 or more items in it. I asked for what I wanted (made my own roll basically) and tried 2 of their own and all of it was fantastic.
Miso soup is yummy and more generous than local sushi joints. They really make it a breeze to take it to go with take home wasabi, ginger and soy. The price versus the size is really reasonable for sushi. 8 decent size pieces per roll is what I received.

First time out today, with my family, and a most definite thumbs up! Great place, interesting menu, some really creative and fun twists on rolls. The three of us shared the Tx Surf n Turf, the summertime roll, a salmon skin roll and the plum umeboshi and cucumber roll. All excellent, fresh and tasty. We fought over the last few pieces and happily cleaned our plates. Prices are most reasonable — with drinks (canned green tea, waters) our bill was just shy of $ 27.
Right up the street from the Draught House– I predict some sushi in the House’s parking lot this summer with a lovely hoppy brew. Strongly suggest y’all give this little place a try.

I stopped by today with my 5.00 Groupon worth 10.00. Ordered the edamame (1.20) miso soup (1.50) smoked salmon and avocado roll (6.00 not on the menu but Take made it for me). Take explained that he could not give me change back so I could order something else as my total was only at 8.70 I told him it was fine then noticed they charged for extra wasabi, ginger and soy packets (.25 each) so glad I saw that and asked him to add those.
This was my first time at their new location love the added orange and green benches to eat at and much better location!
The rich Miso broth made for the best Miso Soup I have ever had! I usually have to add soy sauce to add more flavor at other places. The Smoked Salmon Avocado Roll was so fresh and dare I say as good as Uchi without the ambiance.
I highly recommend ordering extra wasabi as I would have been very disappointed in only one squeeze pack.
I purchased another Groupon worth 10.00 and I can not wait to go back for more!
