The OB/GYN Group of Austin

Office staff is incredibly rude and demeaning. While calling to schedule an appointment I was talked down to simply because I am younger than some of the other patients in that practice. Seeing as though I’m an adult and it is, in fact, MY insurance, I am capable of handling my own medical care. Needless to say I did not schedule an appointment here. I would not recommend anyone do so.

I wish Unilocal had two separate ways to review a business. I would give Dr. Grogono 10 stars if possible, and the office staff 1. Dr. Grogono is amazing, she is kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable and has helped me in so many ways from a precancer scare to regular aging issues. However, the staff when you call can be beyond rude and jarring. I recently had an office member call to reschedule an already made appointment and was ridiculously short and rude with me when I was discussing the time that had already been scheduled. The only reason I stay with this practice is my deep respect, and comfort I feel with Dr. Grogono. If she ever left the practice I would follow her so quickly I would leave nothing but dust in my path.

I went to Dr. Grogono from a friends recommendation as we had been trying to have a baby for 2 years with no success. A month to the day after I saw her we were expecting. Now at 34 weeks I have been seeing Dr. Grogono from the beginning and I can’t say how much I love her enough. Yes she is a busy professional just like the rest of us but she will take the time to answer any questions I have. The nurses are fantastic and so is her nurse practitioner. It did take me a month to get in and see her but she has been well worth the wait. There have been a few emergencies that have come up throughout my pregnancy and I have called the office after hours. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for a doctor to call me back. They are quick and make you feel like you are their top priority. I would recommend them to anyone.

so i just moved here and was looking for a new doctor simply for my yearly check up and birth control and was recommend this place by a friend who’s live in Austin for 5 years.
I went to the central location of 38^th street because its closer to my house however they do have multiple locations which is helpful for people around the area
i saw doctor Ashley and she was so kind and friendly i was very comfortable with her right away! Im very happy with my decision.
4 stars because it is hard to contact the office directly because it is such a big practice and the parking is not free, for my 1 apt the parking was $ 3 and they don’t validate.

I would give this clinic 5 stars IF it was based solely on the amazing doctors. I’ve been seeing both Dr. Kish and Dr. Abikahled for the last 10 or so years, as well as their physician assistant, Ashley Rowan, who are all professional, personable, cheerful, comforting AND great listeners. It’s really unfortunate that some of their front desk receptionists can really add a negative tone to the clinic’s personality as a whole. When trying to book an appointment for my annual check-​up, Annette was very crass and not proactive in giving alternative recommendations to when she told me they are not in-​network with my new health insurance plan. That was all she mentioned. Not proactive in sharing a possible alternative recommendation for the meantime, nothing to protect the long-​term relationship I’ve established with my gynos — nothing, but «we’re not in-​network» and then silence. Ok… so in other words, «I can care less you’re a long-​term patient. It is what it is. Let me get off the phone so I can get on with my day.» Cool, thanks. In speaking with my provider, they said the clinic could contact them and request a temporary «in-​network» coverage for me. It’s not guaranteed to be accepted, but it’s a step. I called Annette back and when I mentioned this to her, she could care less and repeated «we don’t accept your coverage plan, but you can try with the benefits department if you want.» I think it would’ve gone a long way for her to 1) be sympathetic of (my oversight) in choosing a plan that’s not within network of my preferred doctors, and then 2) while awkward for such a personal appointment, book my annual with someone within network for the meantime and then 3) recommended looking into a different plan where they are in-​network and would be happy to see me again in early 2016. Had the conversation been a little lighter/​positive, I probably would’ve just waited 2.5 months to book my annual with the doctors I love, but she really puts a damper on the practice.

I read the reviews here for Dr. Gooch and saw he had experience with PCOS so decided to give him a try as I would not normally want a male gyno but figured why not, especially if we are going to try for kids in the near future. This is in a parking lot where you have to pay for parking so they do take cards but if you are there for 1 – 2 hours then I think it is something like $ 3 so bring some cash.
It takes forever to get an appointment and I am not even sure if he is taking new patients. I recommend getting in an earlier appointment because then there is less backlog. I do believe that they overbook as is most doctor’s that are good it seems like because they want you to get there early but keep you waiting.
So I waited for about half an hour or so before I saw the doctor. He did my annual exam pretty efficiently and I love his PA/​Nurse, she has a great personality and is funny. He is pretty straight forward and no nonsense but listened to all of my concerns at least. But it did take almost an hour to get through my annual exam between waiting.
What I do really like is that they have a lab right in house so that makes getting everything done so much easier. And they have a great online patient portal where you can make appointment requests or ask questions and get lab results. They also do e-​scripts so that makes getting your prescription filled that much easier so technology is my friend in this scenario.
I got a call back the next day with my labs from his assistant and she was also very nice and explained everything thoroughly and even looked up what my results and weight were my last visit.
Are they the best around, probably not but it seems like it is very hard to find a decent doctor around here that will listen to you so I am not going to stray anytime soon from using him.

I was so diappointed in my exam this year. Last year I Saw Dr. grogono’s P. A and she was very good, This year I saw Dr. Grogono. Dr. Grogono rushed through the exam more than any doctor I have ever had. She didn’t address anything, and answered the only question I asked with a snide remark. My whole «well woman» took 5 minutes. The support staff was great but I will not go back to nor will I recommend Dr. Grogono.

I’m not sure about the entire office itself, but I love Dr. Gooch and his team. I had an abnormal pap last year at a different obgyn office and they scheduled me for a colpo about a month and a half out! That was really distressing for someone freaking out about HPV and an abnormal pap with very little information from the clinical team. I find Dr. Gooch on Unilocal and he was amazing. He actually took the time to explaining the types of HPV, which ones were the scary ones, and what I really needed to be worried. He calmed me down a lot just by educating me and letting me ask questions without rushing me or making me feel like I was wasting his time. Every visit to him has probably been the longest I’ve talked to any doctor. He’s a great doctor and he’s thorough and patient.

I have been a patient of Dr Grogano for 10+ years and I find her very competent and enjoyable. Her personality is warm and charming and she finds time to to show she cares despite her strenuous schedule. I appreciate the service she provides and feel that I’m in very good hands. She delivered both of my children. One was a potentially dangerous situation (abruption) that she identified and dealt with quickly. I’ll always be grateful for her actions in keeping my daughter and myself safe. The office always seems to do their best when answering questions or dealing with issues. Overall I’m very happy with the entire experience.

I recently moved from outside the country and i am currently 27 weeks pregnant and wanted to schedule an apointment with Dr. Abi Khaled but she didn’t accept me as a new patient! However her website says she does accept new patients. The reason they gave me is that i’m over 20weeks seriously? The receptionist said all of the doctors there won’t accept me either! I have already been in communication with them since couple of month ago before i moved and they knew when i will deliver and that i will be moving in April but no one said the they don’t accept me! I have already set up everything accordingly! How is it possible they can leave a pregnant women like this and not even help especially that i don’t know anything or no one here!

I’ve been going to the OB/​GYN Group of Austin for 7 years. I started getting my yearly womens exams here. Dr. Jason Gooch was my doctor from the beginning. I chose him because he had experience with PCOS, and I stayed with him because he had a great bedside manner.
After 7 years of knowing him as only my gynecologist, this year I finally new him as my obstetrician. The office helped me stay at ease through my entire pregnancy. My appointments were always quick and informative. If I felt uncomfortable or worried, Dr. Gooch always put my mind at ease. He’s the perfect doctor for a neurotic first time mom because he is SO laid back!
The nurses, especially Lee, Dr. Gooch’s head nurse, are wonderful. Anytime I called with worries on the after hours line, they called back in a timely manner. I never felt in better hands.
When delivery time came, Dr. Gooch was wonderful. He was on call at the hospital, and he kept me calm and prepared. The next day in the postpartum room, he came to check on me and my baby. He reassured me that I did a great job and made me feel validated.
I have such a great affection for this group of nurses and doctors, I recommend them whole heartedly. There is nothing in the world that is more important than the group of people that help you bring a new life into the world.

I had a disappointing experience with Dr. Grogono. Newly pregnant, I went to see Dr. Grogono. In the first visit she told me that she had another patient who is in labor and will deliver in the next 5 minutes but that she thought «she could fit another patient in». Quick visit, needless to say.
Unfortunately I suffered a miscarriage. I was given medication to speed the process and upon returning to Dr. Grogono for a scan neither she, nor the nurse, had any record of how I had been treated. They basically had to ask me why I was there.
I was then told i needed to take blood tests each week. When the nurse called me with my results after the first test, i was told «the pregnancy’s not doing well.» To which I replied, «that would be because I had a miscarriage.»
Oh, and she missed the delivery of my second child, even though it was a scheduled induction.
I won’t be going back.

I would definitely recommend the OB/​GYN Group of Austin! They were very efficient in their check in process and the entire staff was very professional. I was getting an annual check up with Sarah, a Nurse Practitioner. She was so sweet and very helpful. She explained everything she was doing and the process was fast and painless. I could not have had a better experience. Keep it up.

After several fruitless visits to the UT Health Center, I was referred to Dr. Abikhaled by a physician there who was unsure of what to make of my case. Even with UT health insurance, I was able to easily make an appointment (didn’t wait more than a week or two to get in) and first saw her at the location on 38^th Street. They sent both text and email reminders of appointments, which I found extremely helpful.
At my first visit, Dr. Abikhaled thoroughly examined my medical history, asked lots of questions and listened to my answers, all while engaging me in pleasant conversation that didn’t feel stilted, rushed or awkward. She explained things thoroughly and at my level, and spoke to me like a human being regarding my condition, which she recommended treating with a simple pill. I was floored to discover that what most doctors had thrown their hands up at for all of my adult life could be so easily remedied once someone had taken the time to properly identify it.
After that, I came back several times for annual exams, always requesting Dr. Abikhaled. No matter how full the waiting room was, she was always calm and patient during our visits, good-​natured, easily approachable and welcoming of any kind of question. Whenever I needed a prescription refill in between visits, I never had any problem getting it.
Most recently, I visited her at the Westlake location, which is predictably a lot quieter and swankier than the one on 38^th Street (go here if you have a choice). Since I am preparing to move, the staff presented me with a copy of my records to take with me, and Dr. Abikhaled made helpful recommendations for finding a new obgyn and following up on past procedures. She even made sure I had enough of my prescription to hold me over long enough to get established in my new location. I didn’t even have to ask.
In my experience, it’s a daunting task to find an obgyn that’s both first-​rate and personable, yet here she is. If you’re in the Austin area (and even if you’re not), I can’t recommend Dr. Abikhaled enough!

I went to see Dr. Karen Kish Jan. 2014 at the Westlake/​Bee Cave location. The office was very nice and up to date. The receptionist was super nice. I didn’t have a long wait, which I like. I don’t mind waiting in the waiting room, but I hate being called back to the patient room and sitting there for what seems like forever, dressed in the gown. When Dr. Kish came in, she was very friendly, talked through the whole exam to help you feel more relaxed. Afterwards, I had a few question I needed answered and she was able to clear up some confusion I had and what my old obgyn was telling me and not telling me. The location on Bee Cave rd doesn’t do a lot of stuff, I think just mostly exams, but that is fine with me. I would recommended Dr. Kish

I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Grogona, only to have it canceled a few days before. When I tried to reschedule, I was told she would no longer be at the Westlake office and only a PA or nurse practictioner would be there the day of my appointment. I was told that they did not know who would be there on what days because schedules had not come out. Calling two weeks later, there was still no schedule for the doctors who would be there, although the receptionist was very nice.
I think this is treating patients very unprofessionally and I have changed ob-​gyn groups.

I had a very disappointing and unprofessional experience with Dr. Sally Grogono this week. In summary,
1. She is unprepared.
2. She rushes her exams.
3. She texts on her phone while she is in the exam with you.
4. She breaks patient privacy.
I came in for a check up after giving birth to my first child. While I was waiting in the exam room, I over heard her on the phone saying that she should be in a C-​Section right now but had forgot about the surgery! Oh, no I thought, I hope she doesn’t rush my appointment.
Not only did she rush the appointment, she had obviously not read the 3 page medical history that I filled out because she didn’t know that I had just given birth to a baby and didn’t address any of the concerns I had listed on the papers.
Since she started doing the wrong procedure on me, I stopped her and told her why I came in. I began to ask her an important question (the sole reason that I came in) when she got a text message. To my surprise, she started texting!!! She then continued to text for at least 1 or 2 minutes without saying anything to me. She answered my question very briefly while walking towards the door and left.
WOW! I expect a doctor to read my medical history and reason for the visit before they see me OR at least ASK ME! And, DON“T text in the middle of an appointment that I paid well over $ 100 for. Can you wait 2 minutes?
To top this horrible experience off, as I was leaving the exam room, She opened the door to the adjacent room and exclaimed ” I hear you have a spider bite on your boob?”. Everybody in the hall heard this. How embarrassing for the doctor and the patient.
I won’t be back.

Well, Dr. Gooch may be great if you are young and having a baby, but for a peri-​menopausal woman he is pretty unhelpful. He showed very little concern for my symptoms and pretty much dismissed my concerns as silly and an overreaction. Just what you want from a doctor. I will admit he does a pretty quick Pap smear and the mammography tech was fantastic, but I can’t say I would recommend him to any woman about to go through the «change».

Been going to Dr. Jason Goosh for 7 years now as my GYN. He’s very kind, knowledgable, and you get in/​out pretty quick.
The office staff, medical assts, & nurses have always been really friendly & accommodating. I don’t plan on changing Doctors anytime soon. The only thing that is annoying is that you get charged for parking.
