Avon Country Deli

First, the good news: Great breakfasts. Usual standards and some interesting creations. Good service, seating outside is perfect, and price is reasonable. Now the bad news: cheap, cheap, cheap. They charge for every cup of coffee and they charge full price. I don’t know any other place that charges for refills. I know the industry and I know what the coffee costs them and they’re making a killing on coffee.

Quaint place. Food quality preparation excellent. friendly, background music, nice, i got the pancakes and eggs, surprising that they don’t set out local Jams Jellys instead generic corn syrup based Jams and syrup, instead how about local Maple out on the table? That would help them get in touch with the organic movement. Same with the butter and coffee and milk. Not Local ! I asked for Maple and they did provide. So that’s good. Guess eating at whole foods has set my bar too high. I just don’t feel these generic items are even acceptable today in nicer diners. Others here in the valley are the same way, no thought about organic presentation. Yes I would come back.

Great spot for breakfast or lunch. staff is friendly and the food is good. I’ve gone on busy weekends and late morning midweek, service is always pretty quick, but weekends it can be packed in there! Yesterday I was there and got the hash mountain with eggs over easy and they were cooked perfectly! And to top it off, their prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Nice little spot for a quick breakfast. I had the cinnamon roll pancakes, and my husband had the florentine eggs Benedict, both were okay, my husband just wished there was a little more hash on his plate. The place is busy, but service is fast! It’s self serve coffee which was nice. Next time id like to try an omelette instead, overall not a bad spot!

We love this place ! We have been going there for years. The view of the tower is as spectacular as the service. Never had a bad meal, everything is hot, fresh, and reasonably priced. Pancakes are always fluffy and the bacon is always crispy, go give it a try and enjoy!

Stopped in with a friend for lunch before a class. Called our order in ahead .They were very nice & had our lunch ready as we arrived.
Great view with plenty of tables. I owned a deli for 10 years & have to say they do a great job.
Our salads were nice & fresh but the only down side was that they were very skimpy on the salad dressing, giving us each less than a teaspoon in a tiny plastic cup.

First time here… got to sit out in the warm sun in november! Awesome! Got the 2 eggs w cheese, homefries, toast and bacon. All were very delicious. My fiancé got the biscuits and gravy which comes with eggs and homefries. Loved it. Same prices as bigger portions from a place like the new Britain diner, but better quality and doesn’t leave you with the itis. Will definitely be back.

Decided to treat myself to breakfast with my 13-​month-​old today and had a very pleasant experience! I opted to sit on the porch and enjoy the view, and the waitress immediately brought out a high chair for my little one. I ordered pancakes, bacon, and home fries for me, and a scrambled egg for my daughter (although of course she dug into my pancakes and home fries as well!) The food came out quickly and was very good. I wish they offered real maple syrup, or at least something that didn’t taste like it was a «lite syrup» of some sort, but other than that I enjoyed it a lot. I’d definitely like to try their lunch as well!

This is one of my Mum’s favorite places to go for a bite to eat, so we’ve been here a number of times together. The staff is nice and the menu selection is great. The food is your classic American food without being too greasy. If you get a chance to sit outside, definitely do because the view of Talcott Mountain is wonderful. While I do enjoy coming here, there isn’t anything special or unique about the place — just a nice place for a good bite to eat.

I’ve only been for breakfast, but every time I go, the place is packed. There are a few good things about this place and a few things that really deter me from repeat visits. For the positives, they have a self-​serve coffee bar with a good selection of brews. The coffee is usually good (i.e. Pumpkin Spice) and it’s super convenient to be able to help yourself. The servers are pleasant, there is a beautiful outdoor deck/​patio seating area, and their menu always has a few unique specials that deviate from the breakfast and brunch norm.
As for the negatives. Each time I stop in for breakfast, there is always at least one thing that is wrong with my food. The first time was a burnt omelette. The second time was a rock solid yolk on an overeasy egg. Most recently (today), everyone at my table was served their food while I waited 10 extra minutes so the eggs could be re-​cooked; which is fine, but the ham on my plate was ice cold.
As a whole, I feel this place has a ton of appeal and great service, but grossly lacks in overall taste and quality. All I really want is an egg cooked right and the food to be warm; but that hasn’t happened yet in the handful of chances I’ve given this place.

Came here for Mothers Day. Loved the eggs benedict and coffee! It was great for my 12 yr old son too! What great views, friendly staff and great food! Would definitely recommend it and will be back!

Epic fail… best thing about the place is the view.

What I respect about the Avon Country Deli is that before my boyfriend and I even sat down, the wonderful hostess informed us that they are running a little behind in the kitchen so it could take about 15 minutes for the food to come out. GOLD STAR!!!
We went for brunch on a gorgeous day and sat outside admiring the beautiful view. My eggs benedict was medicore and the home fries were a little too crispy and salty but the berry crepes couldn’t have been better. The dough was very thin with some texture and the berry syrup was savory, sweet, and thick. You can’t help but close your eyes and moan as you chew this wonderful French pancake as your taste buds crave more and more. Yes I went there… they were THAT good!
Unfortunately the druglike crepes are not a regular item on their menu but I guess that’s in the best interest of all. The Deli also has reasonable prices, friendly service, and is located close to the Talcott Ridge hike. I can’t wait to return on another sunny day!

So kind and one of the best egg white omelets I’ve ever had. My company orders here a lot for breakfast and it never disappoints.

The first time I went to Avon country deli I was looking for a reasonably inexpensive breakfast close to my husbands job after dropping him off at work. Needless to say I was not disappointed. I now make it a point to stop in for breakfast at least once a week. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, the owner is super friendly and actually remembers his customers. All in all I can say I have found a new favorite breakfast spot

Avon Country Deli has a sandwich on the menu known as the TBSS, aka The Best Salami Sandwich; it’s a lofty claim, but it might just be true. The salami sandwich was well put together, had a rich assortment of veggies, a nice heaping of banana pickles and, most importantly, some great salami. The bread was nothing to ride home about though.
I also tried the chicken caesar salad. The dressing was very tasty, the croutons were delicious, and the chicken was very good.
Avon Country Deli has self serve coffee pods, and self serve beverages such as Snapple, water, vitamin water, and so on.
The staff was nice and friendly and they were quite speedy with us. There is also a beautiful view of Talcott Ridge, from both inside and outside of the Deli. Around the deli there is a nice assortment of different shops to wander around and view. This is a great little place, perfect after a day hike of Talcott Ridge.

The atmosphere, like the patrons, is cold. The chairs and tables are all metal, and by that I don’t mean metallic looking intentionally. I mean faux wood-​grain, cold metal. The floor is fake wood-​grain too, some kind of poorly-​installed linoleum.
The TVs here are always tuned to Fox News. This fits in with the owners. One works for the Town of Bloomfield in some purchasing capacity. Strangely, Avon Country Deli has a contract with the Town of Bloomfield to do catering. But I’m not an auditor, maybe it’s above my pay grade, so let’s move on. Listen to her partner/​husband for a while, owner #2, and he’ll tell you about his position that poor people are not much more than leeches sucking the life out of society. Fox News, personified out in the Avon country.
The fare: I think they have a problem with cleanliness. I’ve dined here a 4 – 5 times, and every time my sandwich tasted of things that weren’t supposed to be in it. They have a coffee pod machine, but something’s wrong with it and the hot coffee from it tastes like melted plastic.
Other than those vital issues, it’s great.

So, two years later, how are they doing? Pretty darn well. The last few times we’ve come for breakfast, it delivers a pretty quick delicious and relatively affordable meal. Friendly service, lots of coffee and a beautiful view outside.
The pancakes are a hit with the kids and the egg white omelets are consistently fresh and, well, consistent. Very well done.
So, if you’re looking for a solid breakfast place without much wait or fuss, ACD has turned into a solid, dedicated choice.

So I read all the review prior so that i know what to expect.
We arrived a beautiful Saturday morning and it was pretty busy especially because of a 14 person group outside.
I was already prepared to wait a little longer for the food seeing that is what seems to be the common theme. But over all, zero complaints. We really did not wait very long and we were in no rush.
It has self serve coffee and juice.
Ordered was the eggs Benedict traditional, which was surprisingly very good and the hollandaise was spot on for taste. very good choice.
I had the french toast. two slices for over $ 5 is too pricey in my opinion but they were very good. Not traditional, a very good flavor but needs a price adjustment.
I also had the breakfast wrap special which was peppers, ham cheese and salsa. This was also very good. The wraps are scrambled egg, no fried like many places so the wrap can be a little wet.
No refills on coffee without a charge…
Also ordered apple cider doughnuts and apple fritter. Wow… very impressive!
I like it and will return.

The weather was gorgeous so we decided to sit outside on the covered patio. They also have some tables and chairs out on ground level with no roof cover. Sunday lunch ends (and they close up shop) at 1:00, while they stay open until 3 the other 6 days of the week.
Lunch items include a dozen sandwich specials in the $ 6-​$ 8 range, plus 4 salads in the $ 7-​$ 8 range with a $ 2 chicken breast add-​on surcharge. My Polar Lemon Seltzer was a buck and my wife’s small iced teas was $ 1,95.
I ordered a nice salad with the grilled chicken — lettuce, tomato, cuke slices, a sliced hardboiled egg, and some corn. The salad was cold and fresh and the grilled chicken (two tenders cut into thirds?) was well cooked and tasty. My wife’s Heublein sandwich ($ 7.95) included Black Forest Ham, Smoked Turkey Breast and Provolone Cheese with Lettuce, Tomato, Roasted Red Peppers, and Russian Dressing. It looked like a pretty fair sized sandwich and was served with a bag of Utz chips and a pickle spear.
The patio was a great place to sit and chat and enjoy the meal. The scenery is gorgeous, and we could see the Heublein Tower from our table. This very nice lunch ran us around $ 21.
Service was just minimal, but at the end of their shift, I’m not going to be too critical. When we went inside to pay, the staff was stacking the chairs onto the tables and everyone looked bushed.
