The Fluffy Ruff Dog Spa specializes in grooming small to medium-​sized dogs, gently and humanely. We strive to use the latest in technology and training to provide the best grooming experience and results. All of our groomers are Certified Master Groomers or in the process of training and testing for this certification. Our salon is a member of both the National Dog Groomers Association and International Professional Groomers, Inc.

History

Established in 2008.

We opened in 2008 to serve the beautiful dog-​loving community of Bainbridge Island. Julie Rust, the owner and head groomer at The Fluffy Ruff, is a National Certified Master Groomer, and an award-​winning pet stylist. She has competed and placed in national grooming competitions in Charlotte, NC; Cape Canaveral, FL; and Atlanta, GA as well as in regional competitions in Tacoma and Auburn. All employees at The Fluffy Ruff are passionate about dogs and their well-​being.

Business Owner

Julie Rust is a graduate of The Paragon School of Pet Grooming in Jenison, Michigan. After graduation, she went on to apprentice under Debbie Slocum, NCMG, a nationally recognized competition groomer in Glencoe, Alabama. Debbie mentored Julie and coached her through her first competitions and the certification process. Julie and her husband Sean moved to Bainbridge Island in May 2008 with their two dogs, Bert the poodle and Gimli the keeshond.

Went in with my two labs for nail trimming. Told to come back the next day. It could have been done in about 5 minutes while I wait but they were very snooty about it. I asked if they would trim the hair between the pads of their feet and they said they would not because it would make their trimmer dirty. I had to sign up for a $ 60 dog bath first but they would not do it for a full month. They were not even nice about it.
I would not go there and would not recommend.

My older dog came home with cuts on his ear, legs and tummy. He has always been very good at the groomers. Never had any complaints of being squirmy and groomers have always told us what a good boy he is. This leads me to believe they don’t groom with care. They are so busy that they rush through the grooming which results in cuts on your dog. For the amount you’re being charged they should be taking their time and be careful with your fur baby. Even though its a bit of a drive I’ll be taking my dog to paulys in port orchard. She always takes special care of my little guy and doesn’t over book and rush the grooming.

My wife and I are new to the Kitsap Peninsula and we needed to find a place to groom our Portuguese Water Dog. We are very particular on how he is cut and Fluffy Ruff Dog does a great job with him. The building is clean and they know what they’re doing with grooming. We drive about 30 minutes one way to Bainbridge Island just to take him here! He always looks great and they always throw in something extra.(Free teeth cleaning once, toys at Christmas, and a nice bandana.) so even tho they might be a little on the pricey side, but if you want great quality you are going to have to spend a little more.

Fluffy Ruff you exceeded my expectations!
I just moved to the island about a month ago and depended solely on Unilocal to choose a groomer. This is the best my Aussie Skyler has ever had in the 9 yrs he’s been around. Skyler says thanks for the holiday toy too. See you all in the New Year with a dirty dog in tow. Steve

I have been taking my black Havanese male to Fluffy Ruff since we moved here in March. They truly are wonderful with him and he is a lot of work. He has his full coat and it’s very thick, so to get him thoroughly cleaned and brushed takes a specialist. I feel fortunate to have heard about their award winning owner, Julie, and his groomer, Tasha. You’ll be happy with their work.

Took the dog in for teeth cleaning and a mani/​pedi :) They took care of it while I waited — no muss no fuss. What always amazes me is that while my dog is freaked out when we go in — she’s relaxed and calm afterward. They obviously know how to care for dogs.

We have two dogs, one old and wise, the other young and silly. Both are very hairy. Every time we take them in to Fluffy Ruff they always come back looking neat and shiny and much better than when we took them in. Great Job!

We recently moved to Bainbridge and I hadn’t taken my dogs to a groomer yet. Was a little nervous about picking someone out of the phone book. Took my dog, less than a year old and pretty wiggly, to them and couldn’t believe it when I picked her up. She was transformed! They did a wonderful job with her, the best I’ve ever had.
I have no vested interest in writing a review, and I don’t do it often, but I found them to be thoroughly knowledgable and professional. They only had time for one of my dogs, have to take the other one in separately, but I liked the fact that they didn’t try to squeeze her in. Clearly they are more interested in being able to take the time to do a good job. I actually appreciate that even though it means I have to make two trips. The groomer asked me pertinent questions when I got there about what kinds of services and cut I wanted for my dog that made me confident that I was dealing with a truly professional groomer. And the result when I picked her up confirmed my assumptions. Such a good job. I feel like I lucked out on my first search for a good groomer. They are a bit pricey, and I’m sure I could get the service cheaper at a pet shop groomer, but I’ve done that before and there is no comparison. I will be a loyal customer from now on!
