After many years of hair cut disasters, I went to Sprouts. Finally, someone who can cut my fine, wavy hair! And the scalp massage is soooo wonderful!

I had a beautiful balayage done by Stacey. I had a vision, but she took it to the next level. She explained the process step by step, and showed me at-​home techniques for styling my hair. Would definitely recommend Stacey/​Sprout.

I had a beautiful cut from Phoebe who did exactly what I asked and referenced my photos, explained the steps throughout the cut, and gave me tips for how to style at home. I went from shoulder length to a short bob, and Sprout took great care of me. I’ll be back again soon and will recommend to my friends. Try to request Phoebe, especially if you are thinking of making a big change.

When I need to look my very best for a Christmas party, this is where I go! They make your hair more soft and airy and sleek than a clubbed seal! They use a house blend of essential oils in their shampoos and conditioners. You will walk out smelling like father christmas himself! I would rather die than get my hair cut anywhere else!

I received a haircut from Phoebe and she did a fantastic job. I had very long hair for 7 or 8 years and decided it was time for a change and went in to get a bob with bangs. I was incredibly nervous about this since the last time I had cut my hair short it ended up looking pretty awful (hence the long hair for nearly a decade). Phoebe was very patient and listened to me explain everything that I wanted, then carefully tried to implement it. She asked me for permission before she did anything to my hair, and resisted doing anything too dramatic when I started to get a little cut happy because she knew that I would probably be more pleased with something more in line with what I’d come in asking for. Towards the end of the cut I started internally freaking out as I realized that I’d just cut all my hair off, and I think she could see it on my face. I didn’t verbalize this because it didn’t have anything to do with her, but I think she was afraid I felt she had messed up my hair (I’m sorry Phoebe!). She was very kind and sweet and did a really excellent job with my haircut! It took a little bit of time to get used to the change in my appearance, but Phoebe gave me a great cut and I will absolutely be going back to her in the future.

I gave Sprout another chance since my normal lady is booked up for awhile and I needed new hair now and not later. I booked my appointment with Carrie, who was pretty nice. She listened to what I wanted and I even showed her some reference photos on my phone. I didn’t get anything close to what i originally wanted, but that’s ok because what I got was still pretty good. My hair looked great and felt great after leaving Sprout and that’s all that really matters in the end.
Will I return to Sprout on a regular basis? No, probably not, but I do recommend it if you’re on the hunt for a new salon. I love the space the salon occupies and the service that I receive when I am there. Well worth the money.

I love Sprout. Yes, you have to wait for a while to get an appointment, but that is because it is so damn good. The space is attractive and hip without being intimidating, the scalp massage is boss, my stylist (Marina) is always on time, and my hair looks awesome. With all that, the fact that it’s a green salon is just gravy.

I went to Sprout for the first time today and had a great experience. I am a girl with very short hair, and I’ve had some awful experiences with stylists who don’t understand the difference between a short haircut for ladies and just a plain old men’s haircut. I called to make an appointment last week and was given a slot for today.
The receptionist was very kind and attentive, offering me water or tea while I waited to see my stylist. My stylist, Nazz (might be spelling that wrong), greeted me and took me to his chair, where he asked me about myself and what sort of cut I was looking for. I showed him some photos I had printed out, and described to him my concerns, and he listened carefully. After being shampooed (which felt GREAT), he cut my hair wet. He was very gentle and worked quickly, asking me what I thought along the way. I appreciate that he asked me what I thought about the length and then making appropriate adjustments (i.e. my bangs) instead of just chopping them way too short from the get-​go. I thought the price was reasonable for the level of service and for how nice of a salon it is. I paid $ 45 for the cut, which I am happy to do to get a very feminine and flattering short hair cut.
One thing that was a bit annoying — when I tried to call to make the appointment, I had to call 5 times before someone actually picked up. Each time, it rang forever and eventually went to a recorded message that told me their store hours and advised me to try calling again if I wanted to make an appointment. I have no idea what sort of phone system they have, but I thought this was bizarre and have never had this issue when calling salons before.

New to Baltimore I was looking for a salon that offered high quality service and work, Sprout offers it all. The environment is relaxed, warm, clean and down to earth. People seem to love what the do there.
I saw Cliff, he listened and took his time. He excels at what he does including dry cutting technique on my hair which was what I’m used to. So happy I lucked out with my first salon trip in Baltimore, I will be a long time client!

Three stars. Here’s why:
5 stars: ANN. Ann, girl, for the love of God come back. Ann is on tour with her band. Ann and I connected on a folicular (made up word) level. She was calm, she took pride in her work, she has a soft, natural approach, she is a BARBER. My hair is damn near my ass and I felt completely comfortable in her chair. She gave me a cut that looked good the moment she dried it WITHOUT using a brush – just let it rock out in the hot air «lets use your natural wave» YES ANN, LETS– you hair MAGICIAN you. It continued to look amazing as it grew out again, for months, without styling.
Well, a year passed, and I needed some refreshing. I called, she was still on tour, I explained my situation and they were like «we think _​_​_​_​is a perfect fit» ok… I wanted to trust them. That trust was misplaced.
1 Star: The fill-​in. She was nice enough, but that isn’t what I am paying for. I showed her MULTIPLE pictures, explained that I have a borderline hair-​cutting PHOBIA, and ASKED if she could pull off my request. (literally, I wanted her to take less than an inch off the bottom to remove some split ends, and then give me side-​sweeping bangs, not an unusual request). She said, Oh ya! Or something equally confident.
Let me tell you. I felt hair falling. Lots of hair. I saw it creating a hair monster on the floor. Why was there so much hair on the floor?!
it kept falling.
Suddenly, it was in my mouth. Small pieces, in my mouth. OMG. Where is that even coming from.
My forehead. That’s where.
I walked out with pieces so short in the front they Stuck. Straight. UP. She goes «ahh…well that’s just because of the way I dried it.»
wait…WHAT? Generally, when I leave the salon, I expect my hair to look the BEST it will until the next time I’m there. I also generally leave with my shoulders straight and my hair swish swishin like a VS model down a runway («I’m too hot… make a dragon wanna RETIRE!»)
Yeah.
I tipped generously (because I’m a coward), put it up in a ponytail and slunk back to my car like a vampire in the sun. Imayhavecried.

Got the blue highlights I’ve always wanted, and didn’t have an allergic reaction to the chemicals. Someday my people will proliferate the earth and there will be a race of naturally blue-​haired folk, but for now I’ll just keep coming back to Sprout.

I absolutely love getting my haircut here. When my stylist, Julie, left for Oregon, my heart was broken.
Marina, my new stylist, is fantastic though! Too bad they don’t open 7 days a week. They have a late appointment time policy, so unless you’re punctual, be polite and give them a call if you’re going to be late or if you need to change your appointment.

I had an appointment one day at 10 and as I was sitting in traffic at 10:15, my stupid gps decided to go rogue or something, I called the salon and told them I wouldn’t make it. They were very kind about trying to fit me in on the same day! They scheduled me an hour after that and I was able to get my hair done by Leah! She was very nice and really tried to match my color to exactly what I wanted.
Downfalls:
I think the color was left on my head a few minutes too long (which wasn’t a big deal as they fit me into their schedule so quickly)
A bit small in there– not really an issue though. You have to pay for parking-​but 1 $ for 2 hours of parking certainly won’t break the bank
The hair products they use smell soooooooo good. And since everything is organic my hair feels incredible. It looks so healthy and smooth, I love it.
Will definitely be coming back here again.

I love this place. I get a great hair cut from Leah every time. She listens to what you want and then gives you a cut that matches your hair type and face shape. I really appreciate her attentiveness in the consultation.
The organic color lasts much longer than any other color I have had, and doesn’t fade the same way giving me a brassy red color. This color does fade over time, but usually just lightens like hair does in the sun. I have gone close to 10 weeks without new color and only noticed the new grays growing in.
My only complaint is that this place is small, and the appointments take a long time, so you can have a hard time getting an appointment. I usually make mine when I leave, so I know that I have one in a reasonable time limit, but if you have to cancel that one, you can me waiting for a long time.

they listened to my concerns and suggested a classy.1hour, I was so impressed that I immediately rebooked. Very good and trendy style. I can only say you will not be disappointed if you go there.

Review for Naomi for haircutting only. New to the area and needing to find a salon for my high maintenance head asap. Read the reviews and decided that Naomi at Sprout would be the best for for my hair that ranges in length from collar bone to chin. I am pretty picky when it comes to haircuts/​color. I usually come in with a picture and this time was no different. I was very impressed with Naomi– from the consultation to the final product. Haven’t been this excited leaving a salon in awhile. The only downside is she referred me to another stylist for my color. I usually like getting both done at once, but I think it’s really cool that she recommended someone she thought would be better for the type of heavy highlighting I have. This place is gorgeous and the scalp massages are also great. Looking forward to my color appointment and my next cut in six weeks!
My only complaint would be about the scheduling as I think online scheduling is more convenient. I had to call a few times to get through when making my appointment. Not worth docking a star though!

I saw Cliff Butler (I hope I have his name right) for a haircut. I have extreamly thick wavy hair and I always have a hard time finding a stylist that doesn’t run for the door when I walk in. He listened to what I wanted, was honest, kind, and went above and beyond to give me the style that I wanted. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment with him but it was worth the wait. I’ll be back again.

I brought in photos of a bob hairstyle I was considering. I told Adriana what I was thinking about and why I thought it might be a good cut for my face, she told me what she thought would work best (something just an inch or so longer than I had in mind and she mentioned making it a bit asymmetrical since I have a side part) and I walked out freaking in love with my new bob! I can’t thank her enough.
I’m oh so so so happy with my haircut and I will absolutely come back and work with Adriana again!

I have been to Sprout 3 – 4 times now and have been very satisfied with the results.
I have an awkward work schedule and am only available at crazily different days and times, so I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both Holly’s and Naomi as stylists. There had never been mean looks or tension about «cheating» on a stylist here at Sprout.
Every time I get my hair cut, I bring a picture and the ladies skillfully and artfully produce the desired look. My hair is thick and unforgiving of laziness and mistakes, so I know they’ve done a great job.

After years and years with the same stylist who’s cuts had begun to run together over the years, I decided I wanted something new. Ten years of essentially the same cut will wear on a woman. Plus, I’ve changed, my style has change, my hair has changed (evolving from stick straight as a teenager to quite wavy/​curly as an adult). It was time for a fresh look.
Because my hair has become wavier/​curlier over the years, I decided to investigate a dry cut. As anyone who has researched caring for curly hair knows, a dry cut is supposed to work some kind of magic. Searching for a dry cut in Baltimore brought me to Sprout’s Unilocal page, and to Ann.
I had to wait something like a week, ten days for an appointment at a time that worked for me. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. I don’t want salons sitting around with lots of unoccupied staff. This is a good thing. Haircuts should not, in most cases, be emergencies.
So I showed up on time for my appointment (I guess that’s really hard for some people, but if you’re chronically late or stuck in traffic maybe consider making your appointments for a little later than you think you can get there?), early in fact, and waited about five minutes for Ann to find me. The place is pretty although I will cop to having been a little daunted by how, like, super hip it is. But they were friendly, and Ann was lovely and warm. I got the most killer head massage from a woman who, though I warned her that my hair tangles to a ridiculous degree, went for it. We then had to spend about 15 minutes detangling my hair. Que sera.
Not only did Ann confirm all the self diagnosis I’ve done on my hair, she understood that «styling» isn’t a thing I do on a day to day basis. She also gave me some tips on keeping my dry hair from becoming super dry and brittle, which have, in the two months since I got the cut, worked quite nicely. And the cut is completely updated without being totally new, and encourages my hair to be it’s naturally curly self and not try to be something it’s not (straight). She taught me some tricks to encourage the curls, too, that don’t require beating up on my hair, which I’ve never liked doing.
I will definitely be back. The cut Ann gave me actually made me want to go back to see how much better my hair can get (I was reluctant to take off much length), versus every other cut I’ve ever had which has pretty much just made me want to let my hair grow out forever.

Due to a combination of laziness, poverty, and anxiety, I hadn’t gotten my hair cut in a lonnng while. Finally I couldn’t stand it anymore and went to Sprout in Hampden on the recommendation of a couple friends. They did not steer me wrong!
Julie, my stylist, warmly greeted me upon check-​in. She was attentive and unpretentious throughout my visit, and even got me tea while we waited for a shampoo spot to open! The shampoo-​ing itself includes a relaxing scalp message – a pleasant surprise. Julie took her time cutting my hair and patiently answered all my questions during our color consult. In the end, my $ 55 cut was pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself!
I will be going back to Julie for some funky coloring (my first time dying my hair since being a teeny-​bopper), and will update you Unilocal’ers then!

So with my ridiculous schedule and poor ability to plan regular appointments that involve pampering and personal care/​maintenance, this is how it usually goes. I call the fine folks at Sprout up hoping for a walk-​in appointment and each and every time I’ve gotten lucky and they’ve been able to accomodate me the same day (YMMV). Since I’ve been doing this for several years now, I’ve probably had my hair cut/​styled by everyone there. This is a good thing, and as I’ve been very very happy with the cut I walk out with each time, I’d say it’s an indication that the men and women they have on staff there are consistent and as creative as you (or I) will allow them to be.
In addition to a haircut, I’ve come in for the stand alone deep conditioning treatment/​scalp massage that is enough to make you drift off to sleep at the shampoo basin.
They are closed on Sunday and Monday however, so plan (or walk-​in) accordingly. Prices vary slightly based on the stylist and the length of your hair, so I’d recommend inquiring on what your price range will be if you call ahead based on the service you’re looking for.

I’ve had my hair cut at a few salons around the city and always end up trying somewhere new because the stylists end up cutting my hair the same exact way every single time I go in and I like some variety in my hair cuts.
I went to Ann because of a friend’s haircut and really enjoyed my time at the salon. Throughout my hair cut she gave me tips and tricks that are useful with my hair– something other stylists have not done for me before. She even understood why I end up straightening my hair so often (after she told me that I need to stop doing it daily). This was helpful because I’m constantly yelled at about it, but I’ve never had anyone sympathize with me before. (My hair has this weird wave in it that is impossible to blow-​dry out).
Overall, I’d definitely recommend Sprout. The prices are reasonable and Ann always listens to what I want, offering her own opinion when needed but ultimately keeping the client in mind.
