Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA

Amazing time at the Oceanside KOA. We rented a deluxe cabin #805 which was right on the ocean. Stunning views right outside our door. Everything was very clean and staff was polite and helpful.
Kids were disappointed that there was no pool on site but you could use the one at the other KOA down the street. Nothing beats the view we had though! Would definitely go back !

Our initial stay here was 5 days in mid June 2015, but we extended it to 7 days simply because we loved the location right on the ocean. The drive in can be confusing as there are two KOA’s that are both within 2 miles of each other and have some sort of affiliation beyond being KOA’s. We drove through the non-​ocean KOA and it was primarily a tent facility, with maybe 6 spots for RV’s. So, if you stayed or are considering staying at the KOA Oceanside, you made the right choice. There are plenty of things to do and the highlight for us was the nearby winery, which is something out of our comfort zone, but was worth experiencing.
Site: We had a back to back RV setup, which is something I had never seen in practice. It made for a somewhat tight site on the back side, maybe 4 feet between you and your neighbor. It was quite transient during our stay, I believe in our 7 days we had 3 neighbors to our left, 3 to our right and 2 behind us change. The last change out transformed our whole row into Quebec City, Canada. I believe we were the only Americans. It wasn’t a plus or a minus.
Pros: Pretty good bath house, Great Lobster dinner, decent breakfast selection on certain days. Location, Location, Location… you can nearly step out of your tent/​RV onto the ocean. Great sunsets/​night sky. Staff was generally friendly.
Cons: Bathroom was out for 2 days during our stay. Firewood a bit pricey, opt for the nearby home owner self serve firewood.

This KOA offers airstream trailers that you can camp in. a wonderful experience! My wife and I stayed three nights in one of their air streams in July, and it was a definite highlight of our eastern seaboard vacation. The campground is situated on the water right after arriving on Mt. Desert Island from the mainland. It’s a short drive to Acadia national park, a Bar Harbor, and a wonderful lobster pound just over the bridge. The campground was busy, so having our own bathroom and shower in the Airstream was a real benefit. Each trailer has a galley, but also offers an outdoor grill and a relaxing hammock.

Had an amazing few days at the koa Oceanside campground. Was our first time renting an RV and camping. The water views were spectacular. This is the end of the season so the campground had a lot empty spots. The staff were friendly and helpful but Pam and Danny went way beyond the call of duty. We came in 10 mins after closing and they reopened the office so we could get a spot! Showers/​bathrooms were clean and easily accessible.

Making our reservation was a breeze. Pam was super helpful with all of my questions when I called (being 8 months pregnant I had a lot!) she found us a tent space to suit our needs just a stones throw away from the ocean! When we arrived, the staff was super friendly and they show you right where your campsite is, vs handing you a map and letting you figure it out! Within the first 2 hours I saw no less than 5 staff members driving around, checking the trash, utilities, and delivering wood! On the first night a van drove around camp, ringing a bell and selling fresh made pies, how cool is that? The bathrooms were clean, everyone was respectful, there was no noise issues the whole time. Definitely a great place to camp, and this is coming from a cranky pregnant lady!

I give this campground four stars due to the fact we got the best spot n the park. 405 is by far the largest tent site with an unobstructed view. For $ 80 a night I want to see the ocean. The bathrooms were a little on the nasty side and the showers were okay. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would avoid the woodlands side. No view and I’m sure it is full of mosquitoes. Overall this would be a great campground for families with campers. I would come back again if site 405 were available.

I am not a complainer. Read my other reviews. I am very fair. First… Mount desert island is totally infested with fire ants. Google it and stay away until it is solved, That alone ruined our trip. This KOA is not located downtown as the address suggests and all of the activities are located at the Oceanside location so you have to drive your family there to do any of them. This place is right next to a marsh so you cannot imagine the mosquitoes. There is a septic smell in a lot of areas here. These KOA’s are corporately owned so while the employees are VERY nice there is no real sense of ownership.
All campgrounds on the island are extremely expensive. There are no children included in your site fee. you have to pay for each of them. I am a blue collar family guy. It cost me over four hundred dollars for five nights on a site that is so small you can hardly open your awning and we could not stand still outside or the fire ants would march up your legs and bite… sooo, no sitting by the campfire with the kids. We ended up leaving one night early and feeling totally molested by this island. Everything is so expensive that the message seems clear. We don’t want kids here. It is mostly rich retired couples and «non-​traditional» Families. We spent over $ 1000. for a five day camping trip, now if you will excuse me I have to get back to work to try and recover from this «vacation».

Clean bathrooms, very friendly staff and nice grounds. The tent sites generally have decent space in between them, but there are no branches on the trees within 6 ft of the ground, so there is minimal privacy. A good family site — there were lots of children, a playground, dog park area, and no partying late at night.
Be warned that the oceanfront sites aren’t all really oceanfront. They are near the ocean, yes, but only a few are directly adjacent to the water. Also, while the sandbox-​type portion of each site where you pitch your tent is free of roots and rocks, it is very compact and hard — not what I expected when they said it was sand. Still, it’s much better for sleeping than the rough terrain at many other campsites.
Had fun exploring the waterfront at low tide with my nieces — it’s virtually untouched and has lots of shells, seaweed and sea life to check out!

We don’t usually stay in KOA’s. Visions of fields of Rv’s isn’t our deal. But I gotta say, this place is damn nice. We have a water view site for our pop up and it was great. Waking up looking out over the bay isn’t a bad place to be. The bathrooms and showers were amazingly clean and the neighbors friendly. I would recommend.
