Specialties
At Initial TKD Martial Arts, we are a family-based, family-oriented martial arts school. We focus on teaching traditional Taekwondo to both students between the ages of 5 and 14 and to entire families. Using the black belt attributes of loyalty, honesty, perseverance and respect, we help our students of all ages develop better self-confidence and self-control in an environment of both discipline and fun while getting fit and sharing time with friends and family.
We believe in mutual respect with our customers, month-to-month contracts and open, flexible schedules where parents aren’t only invited to watch their children as they learn, but encouraged to jump in and learn with them.
Open for classes four afternoon/evenings each week and Saturdays, we also offer Saturday afternoon seminars for all students who want to excel in leadership and self-development.
Not sure if Taekwondo is right for you? Then take a free class and try it out!
We now offer fencing classes 2 days/week!
History
Established in 2009.
Originally Karate for Kids in Batavia, we moved 2 doors east in 2009 and became Initial TKD Martial Arts. Certified Chief Instructor Ke Roth is a Third Degree Black Belt (and a mom who started doing Taekwondo in her forties so she could spend time with her son as he studied his martial arts); Certified Instructor D. Roth is a Third Degree Black Belt who also teaches weapons, self-defense and sparring (and is Ms Ke’s son). With our unusual perspective of understanding the needs of both parents and children as martial arts students and the challenges families face in the world today, we work to create a classroom that is exciting, fun and educational while allowing you to learn in an environment that respects the individual and ever-changing needs modern families face.

Business Owner
Ms. Ke is a Fourth Degree Black Belt and Chief Instructor at Initial TKD. She started training in TKD in 2003, and started teaching Taekwondo in 2006. An Illinois State Forms Champion in 2006, she enjoys teaching martial arts to children and their parents, and hopes that through studying martial arts, her students will be better members of the community, with healthy and positive attitudes about life, personal responsibility and their ability to succeed in their individual goals.
Ms. Ke teaches with her son, Mr. D, a 3rd Degree Black Belt and Head Instructor. Mr. D started training in TKD when he was in grade school; together, they have 27 years of experience in martial arts. They are both certified instructors in Taekwondo and in traditional TKD weapons.
