Everything we ordered was perfect. Seafood gumbo, fried catfish, fried oysters and fried chicken! The rice and beans were excellent. And the service was beyond great! We had a server named Kenya and she did an amazing job! We were traveling through Baton Rouge and picked the best spot to eat at. And the prices were extremely affordable. Can’t wait to go back when we travel again!

If 0 stars were possible then this is what they would have received. We arrived at 11:15am on Friday, May 13. Entered the lobby to here one of the 2 hostesses speaking on the restaurant’s phone very rudely. The guests in front of my party of 2 told the hostess to «always remain professional, especially in front of guests». Uh, Oh is this a precursor to the service and food? Not sure because we were then told by the second hostess that it would be a 45 minute to 1 hour wait to be seated. The parking lot was not full. Also, there were about 5 – 7 tables available. The guests seated at tables had no drinks, no food and holding their menus with a look of impatience. We chose to leave and more than likely not give this place another thought. Not sure what the deal was but the attitude, not good!

My husband and I went to this restaurant on yesterday. I didn’t read reviews before our visit. I should have. The service at this restaurant was HORRIBLE! We waited an abnormally LONG time for our meal and drinks! The cocktails are over priced and watered down. The food is over priced! I paid 30 dollars for 5 pounds of small crawfish! As I told others about our experience, It seemed as if I was late on the bad reviews. I was asked«Didn’t you know?» I was told by another, «Girl don’t ever go there!» These were just some of the responses that were given. There were many more. Especially about the POORSERVICE! Not one positive response did I receive. My husband and I left that establishment with 140.66 dollar tab and totally disgusted! Will never return.

So, I was pretty excited to come here, but the service was awful. Long story short, if you care enough to read the reviews, just skip it. But here’s the long version… As we walked in the patio, we heard two waitresses bad mouthing the place, which should have been a clue to walk away. We went to the hostess and she sat us. My cousin asked if the woman had an attitude, but honestly, I didn’t notice. We were immediately greeted by a waitress who asked to take our drink orders. Another waitress came over and told the first waitress this wasn’t her table. Tense interaction between the two, but again, oh well… not our problem. We ordered the crawfish nachos. They were okay, nothing special. Then we ordered entrees, they were out of the turkey necks. My Mom took some time to figure out what she wanted and then placed her order. Now, we think that because it took my Mom a minute or two to figure out her order, the waitress forgot to put the other orders in. Regardless, my Mom’s food comes out, and the waitress blames the cook for the wait. While we’re waiting, and she’s eating, we see table after table get their food. Previously, I’d asked the waitress about the cold temperature, my Mom changed seating positions trying to get away from it. I’d noticed the other table had three women under blankets trying to stay warm, which I’d pointed out to the waitress. But alas, nothing she could do. Eventually, my table and the other table bond over the poor service. Finally, the food comes out. It’s a po-boy, but it has no fries. The story changes, before the wait was because of the cook, now it’s because they were out of fries. The po-boy was okay, again, nothing special. So the table was dirty and sticky, a menu had a piece of crawfish in it, the room was incredibly cold, the waitresses had attitudes, but I was willing to overlook all of that. But having to wait for the fries? I just couldn’t get over it. I asked the waitress for an adjustment on my bill. She gave me 50% off my entrée, but my cousin had to wait as well. But I was willing to chalk it up to a bad experience. Screw it. Right when I am about to sign my bill and tip, I realize the waitress had double charged us for drinks. I call the waitress back to our table. Again. The drink was $ 2.49. She reaches into her bra, and pulls out two moist dollars. She says I’ll just give it back to you myself rather than change the ticket. Dude, the money was wet. The table next to us gasped as they saw her reach into her bra. That’s when I decided to write this review. Horrible. And the food was overrated, made me and my cousin both sick that night. Go to Sammy’s. I did, the very next day.

Service not so good today. Food orders aren’t correct and it’s cold upon receipt. This is unusual for B&R BR. #FRIDAY13THSHENNANIGANS

This place has great food, great drinks and the prices are reasonable but the service sucks donkey dick. It takes for ever to place an order, a lifetime to get the food that you ordered and there’s not one friendly face in the entire facility. I’d recommend taking the food to go so u can enjoy a smile or two elsewhere.

Food was good but the kitchen could have been a little quicker with the food and waiter was really nice and the drinks was really good. You need to hung for a min. Love the music with a old school feel !

Friends told me the chicken was the best. The reviews were about fifty fifty. There were likes and dislikes as usual. But throughout what I read nobody slammed the chicken. We went for lunch and they weren’t real busy. Some reviews berated the service, but we found the service to be exceptional. I believe the servers name was Kenya. She was very helpful with the menu and made sure we were well tended to. We ordered the jalapeño hush puppies to start out and they came with a remoulade that was perfect. The hush puppies were crisp on the outside and soft and steamy inside. The remoulade was the perfect cooling condiment. We ordered the Cajun Burger and the Catfish Acadiana. The burger was juicy and seasoned well with grilled shrimp on top. The fish was blackened perfectly with that just right crispness on the edges. But what really got both of our attention was the sweet potater tots! These little jewels were crisp and savory/salty on the outside and soft sweet and delicious inside. What a treat! We went back a few days later and had the same great experience but ordered the chicken. No doubt some of the biggest and best pieces of chicken I have ever had! Don’t let reviews sway you unless they are all negative. Almost every place has good and bad nights and everyone has their own opinion.

I’ve been interested in trying this place since I’ve heard great things. Unfortunately I was a tad disappointed in my visit. Once seated it felt as if I had sunk in the seat. The booths were very worn out with no sort of cushion provided. Plus I noticed that my table wasn’t properly cleaned. My waitress stated how she’ll clean it but I was still puzzled because it should be been properly whipped down beforehand. When she did clean it she used this thick towel like rag that had a strong bleach smell to it and followed it with these paper towels I’m assuming to dry it off. Already I’m like this place is tacky. Anyways back to everything else my guest and I ordered some oysters, Mardi gras pasta, and buffalo shrimp salad. The oysters alone is honestly the only reason why I’m giving this place 2 stars. only because they were huge in size and very tasty. However, my mardi gras pasta which was told to be well seasoned was bland and boring. Appearance wise it looked like something I could’ve made at home. The shrimp were even unseasoned and gross. My first buffalo shrimp pasta was nothing but in appetizing as well. Honestly between both of our main courses it looked and tasted as if someone’s little middle school cousin prepared them. That along with the service from our waitress just really turned me off. Although I more then likely will come back in Tuesday when they have the $ 1 oysters, I wouldn’t recommend this place for anything else. The prices just simply do not match up with the quality of the food.

I REALLY wanted to like this place! I mean, REALLY! I’ve been wanting to go for a while now. A friend was in town and she’d heard such great things about the food that we just knew it must be fate! We headed over at 1pm on a Sunday and went straight to the bar. The bartender was kind, greeted us with a smile and got us our mimosas and gave us some recommendations on appetizers. My friend decided on the crawfish bread. So we’re good to go. Sipping, talking, enjoying the vibe, music was great, everyone around us had food that looked absolutely delicious! We just KNEW our appetizer would be awesome! 25 minutes later… No appetizer. So my friend asks about it, the bartender says, «oh, I checked on it… It’s not ready… But I DID check on it.» Ok. About 10 minutes later, crawfish bread comes out! Yay, right? Wait… It’s cold! My friend asks the bartender if the bread is supposed to be cold. Honest question. The bartender just had this cold blank look on her face. She was pissed. She didn’t say a word. She didn’t apologize, she didn’t tell us how she would fix the situation, she didn’t send a manager over to us. She just walked away with our plate. After 5 more minutes we just asked for our checks. Again, she didn’t smile, apologize, or tell us that they were working on fixing our problem. Again, I will say, I REALLY wanted to like this place. Really! But the customer service needs work! There’s no reason that something as simple as mimosas and appetizers should have been such an uncomfortable experience. I am very disappointed with our time at Boil & Roux. I wish it could have been a more pleasant experience.

I see this restaurant sitting on the corner of a pretty busy intersection and it fascinates me. What can I say? I like good food, and I can not lie. Now, after having tried it a couple of times… I’m over the fascination. This restaurant, in my opinion, has so much potential if someone would just take it under their wing and tweak a few things. On my most recent visit, I came in and the music was so loud I could barely communicate with the hostess. Also, one of the hostesses was on the phone when I walked in. Granted they could be taking an order, which is totally understandable, but they could still greet with a smile. Instead I got a look of «don’t ask me bc I can’t help you». Anyway, I found my party and had a seat on the outside patio. Had this been a pretty day it would’ve been enjoyable but since it was rainy and a little chilly it wasn’t extremely comfortable. It was the lesser of two evils though considering if I would’ve stayed inside I wouldn’t have been able to hold any sort of decent conversation. As for the food… Ok so, it isn’t bad at all, it’s just what you have to deal with to get it. First we ordered a bowl of the gumbo. It was good but it was a chicken and sausage gumbo with very little chicken to be found. Thankfully the waitress was able to bring us some more chicken when brought to her attention. Now here’s the next part… the chicken dinner plate. For some reason, you absolutely can not substitute the sides. It comes with red beans and rice and potato salad, and you’re stuck with it. When asked why there were no substitutes, the waitress tells us it’s bc these are lunch portions… however you can’t sub at dinner either. Oh, and all of the sides are the same price anyway so that still doesn’t make sense. Oh well. Anyway, the food itself is good(of what I’ve tried). The chicken was fried as it should be and was hot(it takes at least 15 minutes after you order it so I would hope it wouldn’t be anything but hot). The red beans were not what I would’ve chosen but overall they were good… minus the rice being pretty hard. Overall, if I’m in the area and looking for something tasty, it’s a good possibility I will keep on driving by… which is pretty sad being that I was just so intrigued by this place.

This place has really good food. If you order anything on the menu fried it will be delicious. My mom loves to come to this place. If you want a quick lunch order the soup and salad combination. The only negative thins is that is takes awhile for your food to come out. The place is busy on the weekends. They do have an outside patio area which is good for the spring and summer.

The food here was outstanding. Everything had really good flavor and the portions were decent for the size. We went as a group of 4, so we all tried something different. Everything was amazing. The only downside was that the service did not match up to the food whatsoever. The service seemed very unorganized and no one was there to greet us to get our drinks when we sat down. For a minute, we thought they forgot about us. We figured it was just the time we went so they were just getting down with the dinner crowd. As the night went on, service got a lot better, I just wish it was like that from the very beginning. I will definitely be back though and will give a more updated review! Did I mention the food was BOMB?

Food was delicious! Service got better through the visit. Owner and manager came to chat during the time at the restaurant. I had the Catfish Acadiana — grilled, and a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. The food was very well seasoned.

I dropped by last night and it was packeddd so I deferred my fried chicken cravings to today. Came by around 11:15am, and you could tell they were just getting their service started. The hostess was very nice and seated us outside. Our waiter was very helpful and made sure to check on us as well as give us updates about our food. The fried chicken was delicious. The red beans and rice that came with it paired wonderfully. I generally don’t like corn bread much, but this one was definitely up there on my list of «corn bread i don’t mind». The potato salad is mustard based, so again not my personal preference but the bf liked it. I’d come back, the prices are good, the food is good. Based on other reviews their service may be spotty, especially on super busy nights. And boy do they get super busy.

Soooo disappointed tonight. Crawfish was mix: a few good sizes, and a few smaller ones. The flavor was a bit lacking. The potatoes were over boiled, to the point of being mushy. The corn was good though! There were two sizes for crawfish, small or large. My friend and I heard $ 14.99/small and $ 20.99/large. The ticket ended up being $ 29.99 for the large. And this is us asking the waitress THREE separate occasions before we order. The service? Approximately 15 minutes after we got our food, the waitress brought us our check. Yes, our check. Then she proceeds to ask us if we wanted to pay our tab… FOURTIMES. I felt so rush. Not too happy. I didn’t even want to finish my dinner. I used to eat here when it was Portico, so the restaurant was a familiar place. The interior layout(tables, chairs, bars) didn’t change.
