The food was good, and the portions are more than generous. My husband and I both got the meal deal, so we were able to try to jambalaya and the pastalaya. Both were tasty, but I preferred the jambalaya a bit more. The gumbo could have used a bit more flavor, and tasted better after adding creole seasoning and hot sauce. Nice restrooms and easy parking.

The jambalaya is the best restaurant version I have had. My son makes me get a bucket every time we go to Cabellas so he can eat on it for a couple of days. He loves it. I would suggest the jambalaya over the pastalaya. I’m not a fan of the sides, but my husband likes them.

This place is really small. When you walk in, the counter is straight ahead. No one is usually at the front, but you can hear them talking amongst one another in the back while the line builds up. At least the food comes out quick. Ordering might take a while though. My boyfriend and I shared the meal deal and a pastalaya bowl. The meal deal includes jambalaya/pastalaya, gumbo, a roll, and two sides. We chose the jambalaya, coleslaw, and potato salad. The portions are pretty huge. I was like pshhh… More for me bc I eat a lot. But I’m glad we shared it bc we honestly couldn’t finish it together. So $ 10 for 2 people? There’s your two stars for price & portion. Flavor: lacking. The jambalaya is overcooked. The rice is mushy. It’s motto is «carb up» bc there is very few protein. Also, it was very plain. And plain does not equal cajun food. The tables had salt, pepper, gumbo file(nice addition), and hot sauce. But if your food is failing in the flavor department, where the Tony’s at? The gumbo tasted like it had some potential, but it was left burning in the pot. I know bc there were tiny burnt specks and a burnt aroma coming from the bowl.(If you’ve left something on the stove too long and accidentally scraped at the burnt bottom, you know what I mean). The gumbo, however, had lots of meat for its portion, so I used some of it to eat my jambalaya. The meat was very tender. Pastalaya tasted like spaghettios gone wrong. Once again, lots of carbs, no meat. The pasta sauce was basically fat drippings or something but also not flavorful and very greasy. The rolls are store bought rolls. The coleslaw is pretty good. It’s your typical sweet southern coleslaw. The potato salad wasn’t seasoned with anything except dill. On the bright side, the sweet tea is pretty good and will help you scarf down some of that food! Would I go again? Maybe if I try out Jambalaya Shoppe and it somehow manages to be worst.

This place left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn’t even eat there! We were visiting Baton Rouge from the west coast(Arizona) and we love visiting local restaurants that we are unable to experience at home. After looking at Unilocal reviews, we decided that THIS would be the place to get authentic jambalaya and gumbo. Our first mistake was that we didn’t realize that the restaurant closed at 7PM. We arrived at 8PM to find the location dark. No biggie — it was our fault for not catching the hours and we ended up at Po Boy Express which turned out to be a pleasant experience. However, we really wanted to give this place a try based on the reviews. So, we spent the next day sightseeing and realized that we were going to miss dinner again if we didn’t get to the restaurant within the hour. We arrived at 6:40PM with the intention of taking our order to go, but we didn’t even get the chance because the minute my hubby opened the door he was told«we are out of everything» by the not-so-friendly young kid working the counter. My husband repeated what he said as he thought he misheard and the kid said again, «yeah, we’re out of everything.» Really what he meant was«I don’t want to help you because we’re closing in 20 minutes and I don’t want to be stuck here waiting for you to finish dinner.» While I guess it’s a possibility the shop was out of «everything,» it’s highly unlikely. The restaurant was empty and I have no doubt he wanted out of there. As I noted above, we aren’t insensitive to the fact that people like to go home at closing time and we were going to take it back to our hotel, but we didn’t even get to cross the threshold before being turned away. Just some advice… don’t advertise that you’re open until 7 if you don’t intend to serve customers during those hours or say«take-out only» if you arrive 30 minutes or less before closing or if you really run out of «everything,» post a sign on the window and lock your door and teach your employees what«customer service» means. With that said… we didn’t let it ruin our night and headed over to «The Jambalaya Shoppe» which was EXCELLENT and had AMAZING customer service! So really your employee’s laziness was a blessing in disguise because we got to eat the food we wanted(very similar menu to yours) in a more welcoming environment!

While the jambalaya was good, we hate chicken jambalaya. It would have been nice to be told all they had was chicken & sausage jambalaya. Potato salad was ok. Jambalaya Shoppe has better potato salad. The jambalaya was better the 1st time we ate here. We didn’t eat in. We ordered to go.

I’m only visiting Baton Rouge but I’m used to New Orleans cooking. I had the jambalaya the other night and it was delicious then. I came back for the meal deal. A large portion of jambalaya,(the jambalaya is exceptional) nice sized portion of potato salad, white beans and generous serving of gum with two rolls for $ 10. Everything is seasoned well, spicy but not overly so. If you want very spicy, they offer hot sauce at each table if you eat in. If you take it home and want spicy, add your favorite. The food is very good. The gumbo can’t beat my Auntie Pookies gumbo but I don’t know any that can. Get great comfort food here.

***************This is for Denham Springs location********* So this place just opened here Denham Springs. I am a gumbo girl. I can eat it daily. The gumbo here has a good taste but it is thicker than I like gumbo. They give you a ton of food for the price for $ 10 you get a ton of Jambalaya, 2 sides, a bowl of gumbo and a roll. The Jambalaya is AMAZING!!! Better than Jambalaya shope. I can see me coming back again The staff is awesome. They are engaging and friendly

This place is amazing. Arrived here before they opened and they were already set up to serve customers. Both staff that I interacted with were helpful and polite. I ordered pastalaya(first time eating it ever) with potato salad and green salad as sides. All food was delicious and I couldn’t even come close to eating the entire portion. If I wasn’t an out of towner, this would most likely be my lunch or dinner spot weekly!

These guys are doing it right! If you haven’t tried their jambalaya, please stop what you are doing and head over there immediately. I must admit that I don’t eat tons of jambalaya but when I do, I want Pot & Paddle. The seasoning is perfect and the ratio of meat to rice is just right. They use pretty tasty sausage and large pieces of chicken. We’ve ordered from them multiple times for our office and the consistency has been spot on each time. Kudos to Pot & Paddle for being great in the kitchen and reasonably priced.

Crazy as it may seem we stopped here en route to NOLA. We had read about the gumbo and everything was right! Best gumbo I’ve had in ages. Go here, stop here, eat here now!

People aren’t kidding when they say you get a boat-load of food. It really is excessive to be honest. Service was quick as hell too as I took it for takeout. I don’t know what seasoning down here is supposed to be like, so I only judge based on whether I like it or not. As someone from around here, I guess you would like this place. As someone from anywhere else, well, there’s some stuff left to be desired. However, I can’t say anything ill of the portioning of the food nor the swiftness of getting the food from the kitchen to you. I do wish there was more meat substance to the dish though, rather than just having cups and cups and cups of carbs(rice/pasta) everywhere. It’d be nice if they could cut back the carbs just so they could throw in some more chicken pieces and sausages. It tastes and feels like homecooking y’all. I feel as though you can just make it yourself at home. I wish there was a 3.5÷5 because that’s what this place would be. 7/10, would come again if I was extremely lazy to cook… OR if it were a post-(EXTREMELYHEAVY) workout meal

Fast service and a simple straightforward menu. They know what they’re good at, and cook it to perfection. My fave from here is the pastalaya and coleslaw. I’m not a big bean eater but I’ve been told both the red and white beans are excellent. They usually have a daily special as well apart from the usual menu. You get a great deal of food for a low price. I always have enough for lunch and dinner. Go and check these guys out. They have friendly service and already have somewhat of a loyal customer following.

Pot and Paddle is a basic Cajun restaurant with traditional rustic gumbo, Jambalaya and gumbo with a basic potato salad slide, dinner rolls and coleslaw or lettuce sides and a pasta substitute for rice. They have excellent traditional red or white beans with rice with an option for a large Andouille sausage meal. They have roast pork special two times a week that may soon be a four times a week option. The gumbo is chicken and Andouille sausage with a delicious roux base. The sides are basic – the potato salad is the best of the regular non bean sides. The garden salad is just lettuce and the coleslaw is basic finely chopped cabbage. My doctor has ordered me to eat less rice and potatoes. I have cut back. Otherwise, I would dine here several times a week.
