I know you can’t just read the one bad review and assume that’s always the case, but read this and be forewarned:
It’s been several weeks since our interaction with Dave’s Garage Doors, but the frustration is still there. We called them when one of our investment properties’ garage door wasn’t going up and down anymore. They came out to diagnose it and then a dispatcher called my husband to relay the findings: they could do a temporary fix that day for the $ 99 diagnosis fee that would give us «several months» or they could do the bigger project (replacing the opener/​operator and a spring) for more than $ 600. Since we’d recently had a number of issues with the house that we were paying, we decided to do the quick fix that would buy us some time and then we’d book them to come out in a month to do the bigger, more comprehensive repair job. Well, after the tech worked on it and left, our tenants opened and closed the door 2 times and it promptly wouldn’t open again. So much for a fix that would buy us several months — didn’t even get us 2 hours.
When my husband called to notify them and see if they could have the tech come back out to repair it, they argued that they never guaranteed that this would be a long fix (despite telling us it would buy us several months). I mean, we would have totally understood if the door had stopped working after a month (as opposed to several), but 2 hours? Seriously?! We then decided to just go with the bigger repair job, but when my husband asked them to apply the $ 99 fee to it, they refused. After several hours, they called and told him they’d apply half of it. I then, called and spoke with the dispatcher (you don’t ever talk to the actual technician, which is a big red flag) and she not only insulted me, cut me off, said my husband wasn’t telling me the truth about the conversation and that they never promised «several months,» but then said they were doing us a favor and take it or leave it. At the end, I was literally in tears. I had to pause and catch my breath and told her I had been reduced to tears. I’ve never been treated so poorly by someone I’m trying to do business with in my entire life. I then asked very politely to speak with her manager and was informed that she was out for the day. When I asked if she could call me the next day, the woman said she’d see if the manager could call when she got a chance. Well, like I said, it’s been weeks… and still no word. So, the good news is, we moved on and found a great guy to fix our door (for less), who said he has received several clients who had left Dave’s Garage Doors due to poor experiences. Just wish those folks had written reviews, too, so we wouldn’t have made the same mistakes.
At the end of the day, I don’t understand why they hung so tightly onto that $ 99 when they were clearly in the wrong and should’ve just gone back out to fix the door (since it hadn’t been done in the first place). The reality is that had they been nicer and perhaps displayed better customer service, we would have paid them $ 659 that day. But they gave it up for $ 99 and a bad Unilocal review. I own 3 homes in the Portland metro area and the odds are good that we’ll have another garage door issue in the future and guess what… they won’t be getting a call.

I dont know how to start but by saying they are liers and shwack artists. My cable was snaped so my door didn work. Called them out. Guy says I need springs an bearings an this an that. Tells me itll cost about 7 plus or so? Or so ?? I dont know alot but that i know is ridiculous. So i called another company. Got it fixed for 135.00 bucks. Do yourself a favor an call a pro.

After realizing my husband was NOT playing a joke on me when trying to open the garage door the other night (door would go up a foot, then back down), it was later determined that the springs in our garage door needed to be replaced.
While on Facebook that evening, I asked around on social media who I should call to help with my dilemma. Several friends mentioned Dave’s (one friend gave them THREE thumbs up), so we gave them a call first thing the next morning and they were able to come an hour after we called, as they had a cancellation.
They had quoted us one price over the phone and then after having them come out and do the repairs, we were pleasantly surprised total cost was significantly less than the original quote.
We appreciated the quick service, honesty and integrity of this company. Would definitely recommend!!!

Awesome staff and service. Knowledgeable repairmen who are efficient and courteous! They are great at scheduling you pretty quickly as well! Their staff is very friendly and helpful! They have been to my house twice… never been unhappy!

I had been a long-​term customer of Dave’s Garage Doors, and had been well-​satisfied in the past. However, late yesterday afternoon, a garage door spring broke, trapping both of our cars in the garage. It was still within normal business hours, and I was able to contact Dave’s office/​scheduler. Despite my long history as a customer, I received NO assistance. There was no option for after-​hours emergency service, and the best I could hope for was to be a work-​in on the next day… if all went well.
The good news is that I was able to contact a competitor of Dave’s, who showed up within an hour, performed excellent service at a reasonable price. This company is my new garage door service. Goodbye to Dave’s!

One of the spring assists on our door broke Saturday morning, and Jeff suggested that a technician could be on-​site to make repairs Monday between 10 and 2. At 10, Jeff called to suggest that the tech was on their way. Repair was completed in 45 minutes, professionally, and with great courtesy. Our tech shared his contact information, performed a great service, and was respectful. Highly recommended.

We just purchased a 1970’s home with a three car garage and our double door was acting up and not closing properly and the single door was from the 70’s and needed to be replaced with a new opener and safety eye. I called Dave’s, I had used them in the past (my last home) and had great service. The technician they sent was top notch! Isaac was professional and most helpful in explaining how everything worked. I will definitely be calling back and requesting Isaac when I find the doors that I want. He is the best! Thank you!

Got a new garage door from these guys. It is levels above the construction quality this house was built with. Windows in the door now allow wonderful natural light into the garage!
From sales rep to installer, Dave’s garage doors has knowledgeable, talented employees. It was truly a pleasure doing business with them!

We just had new garage doors installed and we love them. Dave’s Garage Doors offered a much better price than a competitor on the same garage door motor. Literally, about a $ 250 difference for the same exact motors! Jay, our door installer, was great and worked the entire day w/​o a break on our new doors. He arrived on time and did a terrific job. Our entire process from our estimator visit, to the booking calls to the install, was great. Thanks!

Great company. We’ve used them several times in the past. Always very quick response time and they’ve got us out of a bind more than once. Good, local company.

We have used Dave’s Garage Door Co for many years, always with satisfaction. Last night when our door wouldn’t go down, I called Dave’s, at 9 pm, & Candace answered & explained to me how to manually lower the door, and she set up a time for the technician to come today. Isaac came on time, and fixed the problem as well as servicing the unit, for a fair price. Great service, & great employees.

I dropped my remote control and it didn’t work anymore. The main unit for raising the door is very reliable, but no longer sold.
We talked about possible fixes. They have a lot of spare parts, including the remote control for the door! I was thrilled and in no time everything was working properly. The technicians were knowledgeable and friendly. They didn’t try to get me to take a more expensive option — I appreciate that.
I would use them again.

When looking for a door, stopped by the showroom — don’t bother. There’s really nothing to see here. I did get a few questions answered and scheduled a quote. They gave us a quote that was reasonable. Although, I’ve never heard of the company that makes their openers and googling online doesn’t turn up much.
They replaced my double wide door and installed the opener. The installer seemed to do a pretty good. Next day I got to looking at it and there were a few problems. First, he put up the white weatherstripping trim with greasy fingers. I really had to scrub to try and remove them all. Next, the door seemed to be hanging up when it opened. I found where the 2-​part door rail came together it was bent and chewing up a roller. I called them and they sent someone out who fixed the rail and replaced the roller. Third item is I notice daylight getting past the weather stripping along the top on one side of the door. I quick inspection showed the installer never adjusted this side of the door. The adjustment was all the way in — where the other side it was half way out (where you would expect to be). No phone call this time, I just took my open end wrench and did the adjustment myself. Only took a few minutes and better than waiting on another service call.
Would I have them replace a door again? Yes. I’ve used this company for repairs in the past and they’ve always done a decent job at a fair price. But I will definitely do a much better inspection before the installer leaves.

Levi and his team were very helpful and on time! He took the time to explain and answer questions, showed me how preventive maintenance to keep the door functioning properly. Highly recommend.

We’ve been using Dave’s garage doors for 7 years now and they’ve always done a great job! Customer service is top notch, arrive on time, always fixed right the first time and cost effective! I wavered to another company once due to convenience, never again! Dave’s had to come in and fix the job! Thank you!

I hate up-​sells! They won’t give you a quote until they are at your door ready to do the work. So be prepared to pay far more than what you expect. (come to a figure in your head and double it, you might be close!) Expect a sales pitch that tells you the (standard) hardware they install isn’t good enough to last more than a few years so if you want it to last you need to pay more for the good stuff. I think this tactic is a little on the sleezy side, but I was on the spot needing an emergency repair and I didn’t really have time to shop around.
It’s too bad too. Because although the technician (sales-​person) was fast, thorough, knowledgeable and courteous, I felt fleeced — and a little taken advantage of.
The quality of work seems good, but it’s only been a short time since the work was done.

FANTASTIC service, blew us completely away! We had the typical experience of backing into our garage door. After two companies looked it and told us everything needed to be replaced, we called Dave’s for a replacement quote. They sent Isaac out the same day and, even we told him we felt it was a lost cause and were just going to replace everything, he had our garage door FIXED within 90 minutes! You can’t even tell the door was damaged! He was friendly, professional, courteous, everything you could hope for from someone helping to fix your home. The price was beyond reasonable, especially since he saved us $ 1,800 compared to our other quotes! We can’t thank Dave’s enough, and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I had one great experience, and then one bad experience with this company. A while back my ancient garage door opener wasn’t working so they were polite enough to come out and repair it for a nominal fee, but advised I would need a new one soon.
When it finally died completely I was happy to call them back to order a replacement. When they got to the house they called me and advised it was going to be an additional $ 100 due to the fact I had a unique set up. My garage has a storage attic with a ladder and the track is mounted at a 45 degree angle to increase storage space. I asked him why it would be an additional $ 100 to go up and down a ladder (one would assume they don’t have 8′ tall employees and would have had to use their own ladder anyway) and run a slightly longer cord for the button and he said he could not explain the details that it would just be an extra $ 100. I politely declined the service and called Metro Overhead Door and they are sending out an estimator in a couple days just to make sure there are no surprises.
It is not as much the $ 100 I am concerned about as the attitude when I wanted an explanation of the additional charge.
Update: I had put off a replacement long enough and called them back (to give them a chance to redeem themselves and I like working with people I have worked with before) and Metro Overhead Door. They said they would have someone out Thursday. Two technicians arrived and replaced the opener in a timely fashion. Also, in the mean time, the door itself had caught on something and bent a bit. They were experts in repairing it as best they could in addition to trimming the piece it caught on to prevent further damage.
Metro was supposed to come out to do to an estimate the day before Dave’s showed up, but they didn’t arrive or call. I received a call first thing this morning, but Dave’s was already here and I was happy to give them the business.

My garage door went completely haywire. The technician they sent from Dave’s was professional, fast and friendly. The door works better now than when it was new. Apparently it wasn’t installed properly initially.
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

My garage doors are 65 years old, installed when my house was built. Over the years, I had gotten estimates on replacement, and had a broken part replaced. At that time the repairman said that parts were almost impossible to obtain. Yesterday, one of the doors jammed. I determined that the cause was a bracket that had torn loose, but I was unable to fix it. This morning, I called Dave’s Garage Doors, having randomly picked them from the choices Google offered.
Within 20 minutes of my call, Jim Long, the technician they dispatched, was standing at my door. He was courteous and friendly, and quickly spotted the offending bracket. Jim showed a lot of concern for keeping the cost down. He tried several lower cost solutions, but none of them completely fixed the door’s problems. He finally suggested putting in a more expensive bracket that really did the job.
The door is straighter and better closed at the top than it had ever been since I bought the house. He also cleaned and lubricated both doors, and gave me tips on how to keep them maintained. The doors are now butter smooth, closing and locking perfectly. He told me that the springs were well past their expected life, but recommended that I wait until one broke to have them replaced. He also gave me an estimate of the cost to replace the doors that was half what I had been quoted previously.
The next time I need a repair, or if I decide to replace the doors, Dave’s Garage Doors will be the place I call. I could not have had a more satisfactory experience.
