Arkin Tilt Architects

I can’t say enough good things about working with Arkin Tilt. We selected Arkin Tilt because of their sensitivity to sustainability, but we got so much more than that. You get everything you’d expect from your architects, but you also get the environmental sensitivity. You also get to work with really wonderful people. I started out with a fairly simple desire, and I ended up with a masterpiece that is far beyond what I had even dreamed. It’s not just the sustainability aspects, but the house works so much better now than as originally designed. All the square footage is actually used, now! I wish I had another project, so I could work with them again!

Working with the Arkin-Tilt’s was fantastic. They helped us with a tricky house remodel. They were very flexible about meeting us around our work schedule in the planning phase, they dealt brilliantly with all the bureaucracy, and our house looks and functions 100 percent better now thanks to their expertise.

Arkin-​Tilt designed my commercial property in Albany, California. It is a seven office psychotherapy building with spacious light-​filled offices and gorgeous atrium that stuns new patients with its unique beauty. David and Anni spent time interviewing me about what psychotherapy means to me in order to incorporate the qualities I love most about my work with the design of the building. The outside design is mirrored in the inside through the use of similar materials in each. The feel inside the atrium is like being in a tranquil outdoor garden, and the outside makes use of things found in nature — like actual tree-​trunks used as structural pillars. They were incredibly dedicated to my project throughout the building phase, and have been available to me for various issues that arose once the building was complete. Their generosity has been above and beyond what was expected and I felt like they treated me as family. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Anni and David and their team guided our inside-​the-​envelope home renovation in the East Bay. They were patient and responsive when we had to scrap the first design plan in favor of a smaller scale, less expensive approach. When we finally embarked on the more modest project more than 2 years later, they were just as innovative, enthusiastic, and supportive. The home that ultimately resulted from our collaboration with Arkin-​Tilt was affordable, won a local design award, and regularly brings our family pleasure and pride.

Working with Anni Tilt and David Arkin to design and build our home was a joy. Their combined skills are just a complete package of vision and competence. We enjoyed working with them and are grateful every day for our beautiful, livable home.

Patient, Knowledgeable, Talented, Visionary, Kind, and Generous. Those are just a few of the words I’d use to describe the team at Arkin Tilt. Both David Arkin and Anni Tilt, along with some of their staff members, have been donating a tremendous amount of time and energy towards a Net Zero Energy building design for the non-​profit that I run. They have helped us navigate incredibly confusing county regulations, patiently walked us through the visioning and design process, and have produced plans for us which have thus far inspired several million dollars in donations from funders who are excited about the project. We are extremely lucky to have such a brilliant team working on our dream project, and we give them our highest recommendation.

We selected Arkin-​Tilt to design an extensive renovation in Palo Alto because of their philosophy for pragmatic design guided by the principles of sustainable development. We are about to submit the plans to the city, and I’ve really appreciated Anni and Amanda’s attention to all of the details of the project. From the beginning, they really wanted to make sure that they created designs that really fit how we live in our house. They were also very conscious of the project constraints, whether it be working with the city, budget considerations, or our personal style preferences. They are also a true pleasure to work with, and I’m ignited by my teams’ enthusiasm and warmth every time we meet.

David Arkin and Anni Tilt and their team at ATA are a joy to work with — friendly, down-​to-​earth and talented architects. They took an idea we had for a small backyard straw bale dwelling and made it a gem, with soaring windows and beautiful plaster finishes. They are rooted in the community, and their knowledge of and connections within the world of green building are extensive. They ably helped us work through the city’s planning and permit issues, with patience and good-​natured encouragement all along the way.

We are so happy that we found Arkin Tilt to design our house in Santa Fe. They have been wonderful to work with and have really listened to how my family is planning to use the house. Even more, they were especially great in working through the city regulations. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone with a project.
