Description

Specialties

I have extensive experience across a range of education and career needs. I have taught at UC Berkeley and the Princeton Review, as well as for quite a few after-school, weekend, and summer-break programs.

I am available to provide support as a teacher, tutor, writing coach, admissions counselor, psychotherapist, curriculum developer, editor (for resumes and CVs as well as academic writing), and/or general education consultant. I have taught the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and the PsychSoc section of the new MCAT, among other test types.

Please check out my website or find me on Linked In, where you can read the testimonials of some of my former students.

I offer services at a competitive rate, based on your status as a student and/or on a sliding scale, based on your income. I am happy to meet with you for a free consultation.

History

Established in 1992.

I began teaching and tutoring for the ACT and in different areas of math, and then became a tutor for my district’s Special Education program. I tutored throughout college at the University of Michigan and began working for the Princeton Review in Ann Arbor, MI, in 1998. I have worked with them in San Diego and here in Berkeley as well. I finished my first MA in Education at UC Berkeley in 2004 and have a second MA from the Wright Institute (in Berkeley) in Counseling Psychology (Class of 2012). I am currently completing a dissertation in the Language, Literacy, and Culture program at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education.

I have been a teacher and tutor for over 20 years, across a range of disciplines. I have been working with clients on their statements and personal essays for college admission since at least 2004.

Meet the Business Owner

Gordy S.

Business Owner

Gordy started working as a tutor in high school, when he was tapped by several teachers and administrators to lead an ACT tutoring group, which means that he has been working in test prep for over two decades. At the Princeton Review, he has been trained and certified as an SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and recently as an MCAT PsychSoc teacher, and he has worked with at least 1,000 students in that capacity to improve their test scores.

He continues to teach and tutor, with students across the age and preparedness spectrum, as they prepare to enter college; medical, business, law, and dental school; and graduate programs across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Gordy’s passions clearly lie in education, human development, and career development. He appreciates every opportunity to work with people who are focused on moving forward in their lives, whether that be in school, work, relationships, or their own well-being.
