Katherine Quist, DDS

I’ve been a patient of this dental office since 1967, had 4 or maybe 5 different dentists there now over the years, starting with the inimitable Dr. F. Paul Hocking (ah, memories… like the little prizes in a treasure chest for the wee ones, a reward for being «brave»).
I’ve been seeing Dr Quist now for at least 10 years (maybe double that? Time flies when you love your dentist). I agree with other reviewers that she is the best Dentist in the Bay Area and don’t even care to challenge the theory. She is a consummate PERFECTIONIST.
She has helped me save my bottom front teeth by referring me out to a fabulous Periodontist (Gum doc, right?) for a ominous sounding «gum graft,» which was really a piece of cake (and not the kind you have to brush immediately after). Dr Quist also installed a splint (like a permanent retainer cemented behind the teeth as part of the tooth salvation mentioned above. «Hallelujah!»
When I heeded the dreaded Root Canal she ultimately did 2… maybe even 3? That’s pretty wonderful that I can’t remember because it was so silky smooth and my crowns are all absolutely perfect! No rough edges, no weird-​feeling bite. I don’t want to tempt fate but several other friends with crowns shy away from MULTIPLE foods, (not just taffy or caramel) citing mishaps with crowns, etc, and some having experienced multiple «comebacks» for dental work that has become «dislodged,» shall we say.
There is so much positive to say about Dr Quist and equally about the lovely ladies who run the front desk, in particular the recently-​retired Joellen, (I miss her!) who I vividly remember being ere when I was a child, Charlene, who is awesome about dealing with insurance claims and every aspect of patient services and their wonderful dental assistants (Vicky’s my gal!) X-​ray techs and hygienists — all first rate (I’ve seen all of the hygienists there). As a Customer Service veteran, I can tell you they make a VERY challenging job look effortless. Remember now, they’ve got folks calling all the time with dental emergencies and every dentist there seems extremely busy (tightly scheduled). But don’t worry — they WILL get you in!
Dentistry is one of the top 4 things in my mind that once you get a great one, you never leave (the other 3 being doctor, mechanic/​auto-​body shop & hairdresser — not necessarily in at order!).
I cannot imagine anyone having anything but a 5-​star experience there, unless your first criteria is price, which is no way to search for a dentist — BELIEVE ME.
Go there, become a patient for life and relax. Your teeth have found a second home. (While remaining IN your mouth, that is!)

As someone who has had a lot of dental work and has developed a bit of dental phobia, I am so pleased to have found Dr. Quist.
She explains everything she does, encourages me to breath and relax and continually utters encouraging words like, «perfect… » «looks great…» «you’re doing really well…» as she gently performs even the most tedious of dental professional services. I’ve been to a lot of dentists over the years (unfortunately) and I think she’s easily one of the best.

Dr. Quist has been my dentist for over 20 years, and in that time all my experiences with her have been unequivocally positive. Besides being knowledgeable about her field, she is always delightfully pleasant and affable. She’s always willing to explain her work in terms that avoid unnecessary jargon, which puts me at ease and conveys confidence. I would not hesitate to recommend her to friends, and often have.

Dr Quist is an awesome dentist. I have been seeing her for fifteen years. She is talented, considerate, humorous, gentle, compassionate, bright and very conservative in her treatment planning. She is a true partner in my dental health and together we have made decisions on what procedures are necessary and when to maintain optimum dental health. She never pushes new procedures unless they are absolutely necessary. She did my veneers a decade ago and the outcome is amazing. She provides a full continuum of dental health services from prevention to cosmetic. She rocks!

Dr Quist is the best dentist in the Bay Area! She is our family dentist. She has always been professional and given high quality dental care. She is very gentle and dispels the myth of the painful dentist. In the contrary, she is the most gentle dentist I have ever visited. For example, my 90 year old grandma has recently begun seeing her and has had no complaints. This is quit s feat, my grandma will complain about anything. I highly recommend Dr Quist!

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Quist for several years. We both think she is great, our favorite dentist ever. She is very welcoming and encouraging and has always made us both feel completely at ease. She is super competent, a dentist who is openly excited by what she does even after many years of dentistry, staying up to date on the latest in the field. She is wonderful at explaining what needs to be done and why. Dr. Quist is the only person in a long line of dentists and hygeniests who told me to floss and actually succeeded in getting me to floss regularly, because she explained so well why it is important. She recently filled a cavity for me and fitted me for a mouth guard, both of which turned out very well. Dr. Quist has a very pleasant office and her staff is excellent. My wife and I highly recommend her.

Dr. Quist has been my dentist for over 20 years and I would not go anywhere else. She is a very gentle, approachable dentist and sensitive to my personal needs. I also appreciate her straightforward approach to explaining what I need done and what my options are. When I needed a root canal and some gum surgery she gave me excellent references to surgeons and the experience was really great (well, as great as dental surgery can be). I trust her implicitly and would highly recommend her as your next dentist. Another bonus is the inviting office atmosphere — it’s in a converted Berkeley home and does not feel clinical or scary.

We love Dr. Quist! We have been her patients for 3 years. She is friendly, professional, and gentle. She is clear about what she’s doing, explaining what she sees and what needs to be done. She is positive, encouraging and kind, and she has always done an excellent job on our teeth — we’ve had no problems at all! In addition, she is very personable, remembering things you mentioned about yourself /​your family at previous visits. Plus, her office is in a nice old converted North Berkeley house, surrounded by trees and full of windows and classic wood furniture/​floors. What a pleasant experience!
