Description

Specialties

Our specialties are sustainable, healthy, and tasty café cuisine, including sandwiches, sustainable meats, 85% organic produce in a casual dining motif. We now offer sustainable beer and wine.

History

Established in 1989.

In 1989, a few months before the Loma Prieta Earthquake, the Bread Workshop started delivering breads for different restaurants in the Bay area. In 1994 we were one of the earliest companies to compost our waste. A short time after we opened a small café on Strawberry Creek park in Berkeley. In 2004, after barely surviving the Atkins diet onslaught on bread, William Briscoe returned to two of his earlier passions, cooking and environmental activism, by creating a sustainable café, keeping 95% of the waste out of the landfill. As a green business, we are creating food based on Briscoe’s 30 years of cooking experience that is based in local sustainable products prepared in a healthy innovative affordable style.
