The staff are professional, easy to talk to, and eager to improve my ride. Wrench Science gave me an excellent bike fitting, and now I don’t experience numbness on long rides, allowing me to enjoy the entire trip. One afternoon my dérailleur cable broke on the way home from work, so I stopped by the shop. Justin quickly had me back on my way with a new cable, trued wheel, oiled chain, and adjusted breaks. The whole bike felt more solid after his quick tuneup, and the shifting has never been this good. The cycling community is lucky to have this dedicated, friendly, and skilled group of people in one company, and I look forward to giving them my business in the future. Thank you Wrench Science!

Taylor was great to work with from start to finish. He listened to my «bike wish list,» asked pertinent questions about my riding style/​experience, and then made some great frame and component recommendations. Within 2 – 3 weeks, I was riding the Colnago of my dreams! Can’t thank Taylor enough, but I also need to commend Bike Technician Justin. My bike needed a minor adjustment and Justin was very accommodating and thorough. Wrench Science has great employees, bikes and service.

I’m a bicycle commuter. My daily work commute ride is 15 miles round trip on mostly paved trail. My current weapon of choice is a 2014 Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er w/​Specialized Crossroads Armadillo 700×38 tires.
Working in West Berkeley, I’ve been interested in finding a bicycle shop in the area for those times when the commuter bicycle needs service or repair. I’d seen Wrench Science’s website & thought they only did $$$$ bike builds. But then my work brought them in to do free tune-​ups on employees’ bicycles.
Serendipitously, in a bad way, around that same time, my reasonably new bike developed a mysterious mechanical issue. I figured I’d try Wrench Science for the fix. I called them up. Dropped off the bike at their shop within walking distance of my work. Walked back after work. & the problem was solved for not a lot of $.
Previously, I thought Wrench Science was only a high-​end custom bike builder. It turns out they also do all sorts of mundane service & repairs on not-​so-​high-​end bikes too. &, for me, that service was convenient, friendly, fast, effective & fairly priced.

Taylor at Wrench Science went above and beyond to help me out. I went into the shop hoping that they could size me on a 2016 mountain bike model that’s coming out in the next few weeks. I wanted to get sized because there’s a chance I can get industry pricing (vs. retail pricing) and I’d need to know what size to order direct through the company. I told Taylor this up front because the industry pricing is an unbeatable deal and I didn’t want Taylor or the shop to feel like I was wasting their time. This didn’t matter one bit and Taylor was just as excited about the new model update as I was and was more than happy to size me and talk about what would make the most sense. He had deep knowledge of how all the bike fit variables relate to each other and my desired ride. He went out of his way to call the bike company to pick their brains on sizing given the limited info available on the new model and also validated his recommendation off of other knowledgeable fit experts in the shop before getting back to me.
Taylor was detailed in getting me measured and making sure he had all the right information to be able to make an informed recommendation. One trip to the shop and a couple of follow up phone calls led to a detailed email that compared my current ride’s fit to the fit of the (hopefully) new bike with an explanation of what size makes the most sense for me. He also let me know everything the shop can do from building my dream bike (vs. the off-​the-​shelf builds), working with me on price for any upgrades, ability to provide top notch service on the bike whether I got it from them or not, etc.

Can’t say enough good things about Taylor and the people at Wrench Science.
I had a botched repair job by a shop in Los Angeles. With only a few days left before the 2015 AIDs Lifecycle shipping deadline, I was in a panic, I found a highly recommended mechanic and rushed my bike to him to have it fixed.
The new shop determined I needed to replace rear dérailleur hanger. After calling around, no one in town had one. I reached out to Wrench Science and explained my predicament and, more importantly, my tight deadline. Taylor was extremely sympathetic. He went out of his way to work with BMC to have the part overnighted to me. Normally, it would go to Wrench Science, then back to the customer. He circumvented the usual route and got it to me directly. It created some challenges for billing, but, again, Taylor’s priority was getting the part to me ASAP. We figured out the billing after the fact. He was completely focused on making sure I made the shipping deadline and be ready for the big ride.
Everything went smoothly and the part arrived the next day. Bike is now all fixed and soon to head north to San Francisco for the ride.
I never once doubted Taylor because he was clam and professional the entire time. His main focus was to make sure I got what I needed so I could make this year’s ride.

The customer service and cycling knowledge at Wrench Science Is superlative. This claim has been justified over and over again throughout my entire experience building and being fitted for a new bike by Evan Curran at Wrench Science. Although I am someone new to the world of serious cycling, with many questions to ask, I felt as though I was Wrench Science’s most important customer every time I walked through the door. Evan and the Wrench Science team took the time to answer every question I asked and made sure that I was completely happy with not only my bike, but also my fitting experience. Evan displayed a true enthusiasm and masterful skill for bike fitting. I would say that anyone looking to build a new bike, to be fitted for a bike, or just seeking expert input should talk to Evan Curran and Wrench Science.

Outstanding high end build. Extremely helpful with latest up to date information on equipment from manufacturers. Excellent recommendations on items I was not very familiar with. Excellent build and ship, very easy assembly upon receipt. Highly recommended.

Bought a Pinarello Dogma for 8k that never really worked with the wheels that Tim Medina emphatically suggested. Wrench Science didn’t bother to test the wheels (which turned out to rub against the asymmetrical frame when under load). They also installed 28 mm tires, which turned out to worsen the problem. Never again.

This review isn’t for a bike they put together for me, but rather the very kind mechanic who fixed my bike. I had found an abandoned fancy Michelin tire and wheel on the sidewalk and thought I would put it on my $ 200 Schwinn who’s tire had gone bald. Let’s just say I did everything wrong! Totally messed it up and couldn’t even ride my bike. In 20 min he had fixed it better than new, at an excellent price! Besides no place who has a sweet pup greet you at the door is going to be bad. Thanks again guys!

My first experience with Wrench Science was back in 2010 when I needed to have my first road bike (SCOTT) checked out by a supported dealer. Of course I didn’t think much of the reputation and what the company was all about. I just needed to find the closest place to where I worked or close to home and this was a no-​brainer because they are located 5 minutes (ride time) away from me. Even though it’s tucked away in the middle of Murray St (The worst pot holes are towards the East!), Wrench Science has all the personality of a high quality customer service experience wrapped up in a convenient industrial package. What does that mean? Well the operation has a lot of character. They take what they do seriously. This shop is for serious riders who are looking for serious gear. No kidding! They spend more time on smart bike building and impeccable customer service than they do on anything else. I’ve had nothing but confidence in their skill and abilities when I needed service on my existing bicycle.
I started the process of purchasing a new bike with Wrench Science and got to know the BMC brand from seeing a GF01 near the main entrance and Dan Ditty, a wealth of knowledge in the BMC product line as well as many of the mountain bikes they sell at the shop. As the season approached Wrench Science (as always) began to get busy with many customers wanting to purchase new or service existing bicycles. It’s very reassuring to see a business doing so well. I was on the fence about purchasing a BMC with or without Di2 and with our without disc brakes. I chose the latter and was taken care of by Dan as well as one of the newest members to the sales team, Evan Curran. After many weeks talking with both members, Evan worked with Dan to obtain my existing rider profile and took care of all my purchase needs including the initial fitting to analysis and final fit when the bicycle arrived at the shop. I’ve rarely worked with someone who made feel not only good about the products I already owned but, I was also very confident in my new purchase. We looked at a few customizations to create the best fit for me on the bike and they were spot-​on. A few modifications to my existing bike also came into the conversation as well and now I have to bikes that are essentially an identical fit (one primary and one back up). Purchasing the BMC GF02 was the most outstanding and pleasant experience I’ve had working with a sales team. Evan was extremely helpful, has a lot of experience with customer service, product information and transmits an outstanding enthusiastic and professional approach when it comes to sales.
I would recommend this shop to anyone!!!

The guys at Wrench Science have done another outstanding job. For this visit I had then install the Shimano Di2 Ultegra system and some 3M bar tape. The installation was well done with no scratches or damage to the paint whatsoever. They even color matched the brake cable ends to the frame. Nice touch and attention to detail. I’ve experienced no problems with the Di2 system. Shifting is fast, smooth and precise. I have to drive 30 minutes to get to them but it’s well worth it. This is my bike shop for life :)

…just jumped in and gave it a go at getting a brand new bike from an out of state bike shop (i am in Minnesota), non of my LBS carry the one bike I wanted, Litespeed T5g. Wrench Science did.
Well, turned out to be a very satisfying experience. From the very beginning I was in contact with the one person who cared for my order, from spec’s, to build, to updates and delivery (Henry Chen).
The bike arrived were well packed, all component papers and small parts.

Great, detailed, custom service. Incredible collection of bike manufacturers, the website is candy for the eyes, I want to ride on of these beautiful Italian bikes if I only knew which one, Henry will help you decide.

I’ve purchased 2 bikes and lots of parts and accessories from Wrench Science. They’ve always had the brands and products I’ve wanted and sometimes surprise me with cool things I’ve never seen before. Amazing staff knows the product and cycling without being snooty about it. They have or will get the answer to any question. Could not be happier with a shop.

These guys are great; they really know biking inside out. I had my doubts about buying my «dream» bike on line, but my worries were totally unfounded. They built the exact bike I specced out and it fit perfectly right out of the box. It’s amazing when a company does exactly what they say they will. I will recommend Wrench Science to any friend that asks me.

This is not your neighborhood bike shop. Don’t come here expecting to test ride a bunch of bikes or to buy a bike bell. Chances are the bike you want is probably not even built up. They don’t have a lot of bikes built up ready to ride compared to your typical bike store.
This place does most of their business online and this brick and mortar is place where they do their build.
This is the place to come if you’ve done a little research and you kind of know what you want. The staff will measure you and take the time to dial in a good fit. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are lots of high end frames here.
The shop is located on a semi-​fortified compound in an industrial area. The parking lot entrance might not be easy to find on your first pass.
Salesman, Patrick Smith was an absolute pleasure to deal with. The dude is professional and knows his stuff. He took his time making sure I was lined up with the best bike for my needs. He was never pushy and didn’t give me any bull-sh!t. I also interacted with one of the mechanics and he was also very friendly and helpful. I visited 4 shops in recent weeks prior to stopping by WS and Patrick had the best service of all the shops.
4 stars for the shop and an extra star for the exceptional customer service.

At first I was hesitant to go to this store because of some of the Unilocal reviews, but I went anyway because it was near where I live. I’m glad I did. Parking is easy, the store is attractive, and the sales approach is relaxed and low pressure. They have a large selection of high end bikes, frames, and parts in stock, and also offered to obtain items they don’t normally carry.
On my first visit, a weekday afternoon, we just chatted for at least a half-​hour. I felt no pressure to buy or move on. Later, I visited again on a Saturday afternoon near closing, and again I felt no pressure to shorten my visit.
Finally, when I decided to order a bike, the salesperson was very helpful in finalizing the details. He measured me using their fit system, which is also available online. Although some of the parts I wanted on my bike were not on their website, he said he would work up a final price based on my desired specification.
Then, when I had a change of heart and decided to buy just the frame rather than a whole bike, this was accepted without drama or negativity, even though the purchase was substantially smaller. I left feeling happy and satisfied. Since then, the salesperson has followed up with a few calls and emails to check that I was satisfied with my purchase.
I hope other shoppers on the fence will make the effort to visit Wrench Science and see what it is about for themselves.

Really though, I pop in and say what’s up to the guys there, go on the shop ride, get some stuff done there. Bottom line is they are really nice guys and do fantastic work.
I was reading below that people were standing around waiting for service, if you need help, why not just ask?
Also they have a ton of frames all top end stuff. If you want a tarmac, maybe this isn’t the place to go. But if you want something special, then this is the place. (not to say they won’t service your tarmac, because if they did, it would be done very well.)

Wrench Science appears to specialize in super high end bicycles, however I just needed a new stem/​steer tube installed on my commuting bike. I usually do all my own repairs and tune ups, but this time I decided to save myself the time and take my bike and the new part to a shop. Wrench Science is about a half mile from my work, so I went there out of convenience.
The price for the work was fair, and it was done quickly. That’s the good part…
I didn’t find the service bad, but definitely a little indifferent. Not necessarily unpleasant, but this is obviously not a customer experience driven business.
I picked up my bike and the first thing I noticed when I attempted to ride to work the next day was that my folding bike didn’t fold correctly anymore — the seat post and handlebar folds didn’t align correctly, and the rear shift and brake cables were getting caught in the folding mechanism. After about ten seconds of investigation I discovered that the new stem/​steer tube was not installed correctly, and this was causing the folding issue. After taking apart the front end of the bike, I found that the shop actually made some unnecessary modifications to the new stem/​steer tube to make it fit. A small alignment hole in the steer tube that mates with the fork crown bolt was extended (I assume by drilling it out). However, if it was installed correctly in the first place, there would have been no need to drill out the alignment hole.
I ended up redoing all the work myself, so basically wasted my time and money.
