We were in Big Bear and came home after breakfast to notice a puddle under my car
We searched Unilocal for a mechanic with favorable reviews and found Gregs automotive. The reviews are true they were helpful and honest .It turned out we needed a part which he couldn’t get until Monday afternoon
Greg said my car would be ready Monday by 5 it snowed for two days and the part came and my car was ready on time as promised. also charged exactly the estimate amount. Greg will now be our mechanic in Big Bear Lake they are nice, friendly and HONEST.

Our vehicle overheated on the way up to Big Bear. We read a few online reviews and decided to trust Gregg, knowing it was a big decision that would set the tone for the rest of our vacation. It was a great test of his character. out of towners, desperate. we knew it could range from a cheap thermostat up to an expensive blown radiator. Gregg’s team diagnosed it quickly, broken overflow cap, a cheap and easy fix. They fit us into a busy afternoon and got us out quickly and inexpensively, with a very fair cost for labor. These are some grade-​A honest folks, and very professional and friendly in their dealings.
Gregg and his solid crew saved our vacation. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

This place really helped my family out in a pinch. We needed to make sure the snow chains we put on our car were on correctly. I called Gregg when they opened and they saw us immediately. Steph was working and helped adjusted our chains immediately. Not only were they professional and reasonably but reliable. I would highly recommend Greggs Automotive to anyone in the Big Bear lake area.

You will not find a better auto shop in Big Bear, I guarantee it! Gregg has been in the car business for a long time and knows what he’s doing. He is honest and fair and he will not rip you off like so many other shops will. He and his technicians are fantastic, and they even service boats too. Don’t bother going anywhere else.

My family and I were vacationing from Phoenix AZ up in the Lake Arrowhead area. After a trip down the hill, our Subaru’s air conditioning just quit blowing cold air. We were kind of concerned, not looking forward to 7 hours of driving through the desert back home.
After a little calling around (and researching on Unilocal!) we found Gregg’s Automotive. FANTASTIC service. Gregg was friendly, knowledgeable, and really fair. He warned me that he may not be able to help with parts if the car needed them, not with the same-​day turnaround we had to have since we were heading out of town the next day.
Gave me a fair estimate for the diagnostic if he were not able to complete the job, but would apply those charges to the repairs as needed. Cool…
He even drove us over to the Starbucks so we could camp out with WiFi while he worked on the car!
He called me twice though the morning to let me know his findings, and later that SAME DAY they had the AC leaks fixed, the system recharged, and he changed the oil to boot! VERY reasonable, very honest, a great communicator — what more could you want in a mechanic? Makes me want to drive from Phoenix just to give him my car repair business.
HIGHLY recommended!

My friends and I went skiing for the day up in Big Bear. When we were about to head back, the water cooler in my friend’s BMW burst, so we came here to see what could be done. Although there was nothing the mechanic could do because we needed to replace an entire car part, he gave us his recommendations and seemed genuinely concerned. I haven’t been to too many auto shops where they are so willing to help you and the mechanics have a lot of knowledge on cars. Great place! Five stars, because we were super stressed out and they gave us their time and help.

Tooks us last minute, very fast and friendly service! The only one in big bear willing to give us an apt within 24h!

I usually do my own work, but have been really busy lately so had the wife take our car in for an oil change. We supplied our own oil and filter. They gave us a fair price, worked quickly, took care of my super nice car and treated my wife respectfully.

Gregg and his shop were life saver. Part of my fuel pump system died while on vacation. Options are limited in a small town like this and businesses close early on weekends if they are open at all… Gregg stayed open a little longer to accommodated for the time it took to get my Subaru towed to his shop. Monday he contacted me about the diagnosis and estimate. Being that I lived three hours away and was now stuck with a costly rental car he was understanding of my «time is of the essence attitude.» Gregg maintained good communication and the car was fixed on schedule. The price was a touch high, but fair considering the expedited service.

SO GLAD I FOUND GREGG’S!!!
I took my car to a different garage in the valley (who shall remain unnamed) to get an oil change (or a partial oil change as it turns out) and a brake check. After getting my car back from the other garage with a jaw dropping estimate for new brake pads and rotors, I called around to see how much other garages charged for the same work. Gregg’s prices came in lower, and he also came highly recommended, so I opted to go with him.
I sincerely wish I would have gone there in the first place instead of just going somewhere close to where I work out of convenience. Gregg’s charged me almost $ 300 LESS than the other garage quoted me for the same work, and he fixed the botched oil change I got at the other place and even filled my windshield wiper fluid for free (which the other place couldn’t do for some reason!) He also took the time to talk to my husband and tell him what was going on with the car (which again… the other place didn’t do either). Gregg’s will definitely be getting more business from me and I will happily refer anyone who asks for a good mechanic his way. He is honest, gets the work done quickly, friendly and affordable! Thank you, Gregg’s!!!

I came to Big Bear for vacation. I notice I needed an oil change for my car and looked at Unilocal for auto service and found Gregg’s Automotive. Got service for an oil change and had extra information on my car about tpms warning light and my rear break pads remaining life and told me I could use a tire rotation. Great information to keep me safe. Thanx Greggs Automotive! Keep up the good work!

Look in the dictionary under Honest, and you will see a picture of Gregg. For 15 years in this small town I have been looking for an honest and reliable mechanic and finally found one. Just went in for a snow tire change over… asked Gregg if he could also check my brakes… told him I was getting a little vibration when applying the breaks on the downhill stretches. He not only explained the reason (slightly warped roter), but gave me percentage of wear on the pads… and a very reasonable estimate for repair… but said it was not necessary at this point. He just earned my future business!

I came in from Vegas for a couple nights and heard a not so nice noise on my way into town. If I were at home with my tools I would have fixed it myself but I’m not driving back 200+ miles on a broken bearing. Called in for a quote for a broken wheel bearing on my truck after all my Unilocalers gave great reviews. After running through everything he insisted I had four wheel ABS. His quote was very high so I stopped in so he could verify the bearing that needed replaced did not have ABS. Gregg sent someone out to crawl under my wheel and it of course did NOT have abs as I had told him but he insisted. He stuck with his original quote of over $ 500…over $ 200 more than any other shop in town. WAY to stick it to the out of town people Gregg. I could go buy the part myself for $ 100 at Napa add your 20% call it $ 120…so you’re saying it’s going to cost $ 400 just for labor? Its 15 bolts and a cotter pin! I appreciate you were willing to fit me in last minute today but so were six other shops in town that all came in at under $ 300 out the door.
Edited 8-​8-​2013: Greg called me today after reading my review and apologized. He said Napa added two wheeling bearings to his cart and he didn’t catch it until after he read my review. I appreciate the call and correction. But my review still stands. Life gets busy… Running a business is tough especially in these times. But you should take the extra minutes with each customer to insure your not sending people away jaded. I felt there was something wrong from the phone quote and I still drove the truck in to give him a second chance to double check his work. I did this because I trust my Unilocalers advice. Hopefully this review helps Greg remember so others don’t leave feeling ripped off.

We were just at Big Bear Mountain during the big snowfall and manhunt this past weekend. I was feeling a bit inadequate when I saw most of the cars around me in chains and I had none on :). I asked the mailman if he could recommend someone that could put my chains on for me and he pointed me to Gregg’s automotive. I pulled up and he looked at my car and told me I did not need chains but that my tire sensors indicated my tires were low. He proceeds to fill all tires and when I asked how much I owed… he said «nothing have a great day and stay safe». He could have made some $$ from an inexperienced snow driver… totally cool and honest person. Yes — they exist :)

Gregg’s Auto exceeded my expectations. Price was fair, service was exceptional and they even did a favor for me at no cost!
Price for trani and brake fluid flush came in a few bucks BELOW the estimate … enough said.

It’s never good when you go on vacation and your car breaks down. We were lucky to reach our lodging when our car overheated. When knew something was terribly wrong when we put coolant in and it came out of the bottom of the car just as fast as us pouring it in through the top. Jumping on Unilocal we found great reviews for Greggs Automotive and gave them a call. They set up a tow truck to come pick up the car within the hour and had a diagnoses 30 minutes after that. Unfortunately there was a major crack in our radiator which meant it needed to be replaced. The shop called around different places to get us the lowest price on the new radiator. Even with the stress of losing your car on vacation, the repairs were seemless and we got our car back the day we left. Grateful to find a great quality repair shop while away from home.

My SUV broke down during a freak April snow storm in Big Bear. On the way back to our cabin a rogue snow chain broke loose and rudely slashed my brake line. After changing my pants, I called my roadside assistance and they offered to tow me nearby to Gregg’s.
I thought «oh great, I’m in the middle of the snowy mountains and am going to get taken for an even scarier ride on this repair»…but after doing some of my own parts research to verify prices, Gregg and the boys over at Greggs Automotive were right on the mark. SUPER friendly, they sourced the part over an hour away and had it delivered, came to pick me up, and even charged me $ 40 less than they initially quoted! WOW! I’m still amazed!
If you ever loose your brakes (or another vital part) on a snowy mountain and almost slide off the road to your untimely death, go see Gregg!!! He’s honest and will get you back on the road to die another day!

This is the shop to go to for reliable service, I bring our 2 vehicles on a regular basis and have had great experiences. Been full time local for 10 years. Friendly straight forward service from Gregg and Tony. Check this shop out for tires, repairs, replacement parts, tire chains and oil changes. You will be glad you did, esp. if you have had a less than great experience anywhere else in the Big Bear valley.
