When I dropped off 6 dining room chair slip covers to be cleaned, I was quoted a price that sounded fair to me. I asked if I could pay then, and the woman told me no, I would need to pay when I picked them up the following week. She gave me a small slip of paper as a claim check, but nowhere on it was the price i had been quoted — or any other price. I didn’t think anything of that. When I went to pick the slip covers up the next week, they charged me DOUBLE the quoted price and claimed no one had quoted me the original price. I’m certain that’s false. Before deciding on Berthon’s, I called and stopped in at a few other cleaners to compare prices and turn-​around time. I chose Berthon’s because of the price they quoted me, which I remember quite clearly. I even remember multiplying the number by 6 and saying the total out loud to the woman. May I suggest, Berthon’s, that you allow people to pre-​pay to avoid situations like this — or at least put the price on the ticket you give the customer at drop-​off? There should be no misunderstanding on price once an item is dropped off. It was weird to be in a she-​said/​she-​said situation like this.

I had garments that needed to be removed of dirt and subsequently pressed. Having never used a dry cleaner in Birmingham before and having few Unilocal reviews to go off of, I decided to just use Berthon’s since it was convenient for me, location-​wise.
My visit started off with me trying to open the doors on the corner and finding them locked, though it was during business hours. Was some cruel individual messing with me? I checked my watch to make sure I wasn’t too early. I peered through the door but didn’t see any sympathetic employees. Finally a woman emerged and gestured towards the front of the store, where there were some more [unlocked] doors. Oh. Um, maybe a sign explaining this locked door situation would be helpful?
The lady who took my threads and gave me back my freshened threads was nice and polite. The stated turnaround time was around three days. I actually picked up my duds over a week later, and they were cool with that. Getting a two-​piece suit and blouse cleaned set me back nearly $ 32 which seemed a little pricy but I’m not sure what the average is for Birmingham for getting such attire treated. Everything looked fine.
