You know what you are getting into quality wise-yes the equipment is broken down, mis-matched and very limited, but my frustration is with the staff. They are the typical fan girl/boy when you are interested in joining(friendly, upbeat, evangelical) but turn completely the opposite after joining. They are unapproachable, act like they don’t want to be there/hate their job, and think their PT session is more important than anything else so they have no regard for the daily gym goer(they will take over your weights, area, machine, etc without asking). While sitting in the lobby one of the staff even said«I got another one!» to a co-worker, reinforcing the fact that you are just a number and their goal is to obtain quantity and not to provide quality and value their members. Today took the cake for me when I went into the«boot camp room» like I always do to warm up and stretch out. I am extremely conscientious to stay out of the way, confirm with the trainer that I am not interrupting the class, and always clean up my equipment properly. However, I was told today that«unless you are doing the boot camp or in a PT session, you are not allows to be in here.» Not only does this completely contradict the posted sign, but it also means the only place to warm up(ex: jump rope, row, foam roll) and stretch out is off limits during the peak time of the day. I was comfortable getting what I paid for(awful wifi, broken water fountain, equipment, etc.) for $ 10 a month, but now that the gym is «off limits» when I want to work out I wouldn’t pay a dime to go to Johnny’s. P. S. There is only one squat rack which is not only a crime against exercise but it is always used for exercises other than squats! How about a sign for that? …smh

Equipment is out of date, the majority of the cardio machines squeal(twice I had a treadmill go from a speed of 9 to 2 and suddenly back to 9 with no warning) and there are at least 5 brands of barbell weights you have to mix and match. They also won’t let you quit without someone trying to convince you you’re wrong, so now I’m sitting in a chair waiting for whoever is in charge of that before I can cancel. It also happened to be my annual fee time for equipment upkeep so canceling cost me $ 70(not convinced they’ve ever invested in upkeep since opening). I was even told $ 10 per month might be worth second rate equipment. Not worth the cheap rate to feel like I’m working out in a friend’s garage filled with pawn shop equipment.

Working out here is great! The trainers are all really friendly, and the equipment and rooms are extremely clean! The sauna is great after a workout too!

I stumbled upon this gym today while out having lunch with my husband at IOU sushi(in the same strip mall). I have been looking for a gym to join since I got out of the military a few months ago but so far none of them have worked for me.(Prices too high, too far from my house, not enough offered, etc.) So I decided to walk into Johnys’ today and was instantly happy with what I saw. The facility is small but well equipped. Very clean and it smelt good which is usually not the case at a gym. The lady behind the front desk was very polite and offered us a tour. One of the employees Josh gave us our tour and was very friendly and informative but not pushy. He mentioned getting us a month pass just to try the gym but I was already sure this was a good place for me to work out. They do offer a lot of packages with boot camps and personal training and if that’s what you need their prices aren’t bad but I opted for the all inclusive monthly package(they offer month to month) for $ 19.99($ 21.xx after tax). What sold me on this gym is as follows: 24 hr access Super convenient location Nice facility stocked with current equipment Classes included in my membership(zumba, etc) Tanning beds and a sauna Great customer service I used to pay $ 60 a month just for tanning so this actually saves me money. I will update if something changes.

Accounting has been a nightmare. I had to go in twice to cancel because apparently once wasn’t enough. Then I get stuck with a $ 25 maintenance fee after my contract has expired. Be sure to read the fine print because you end up paying a lot more than originally anticipated. Frustrating that it had to end like this because the actual gym is awesome for the price but the staff and management need to get it together. I have to think that the initial investors in this company had some business savy to anticipate long term membership retention and this is not the way to do it. Get it together Johnny.

After posting this review and one on BBB Johnny, the owner contacted me himself, completely unaware of what was going on and handled the issue fairly. I went back into see my trainer, Mark, today and had a great session. Glad I posted this review to begin with because it got me the resolve I wanted.
