Specialties
Premium natural nutrition for dogs & cats, dog apparel, and dog and cat treats and toys. We are pet geeks who also like great design!
History
Established in 2010.
Our first store was a chihuahua-sized space on the East End of Portland ME in 2000, originally called Fetch. Within a year or two, we moved to the Old Port to a much bigger (Great Dane?) spot, where we still are (now called The Fish & Bone Portland). In 2010, we opened this store, our Boston store, on Newbury Street. In 2012, we introduced free delivery, and brought all of our pet foods & treats to our web store so our delivery customers could order easily. Since our first day in April of 2000, we’ve focused on premium, and pragmatic, natural nutrition for dogs & cats, and on being a supportive partner to our community of animal welfare providers and pet parents. We love our brick & mortar opportunities to connect with our customers but we have found our web store to be a great place to stay in touch with our customers from all over the world.
Meet the Business Owner
Kathy P.
Business Owner
My mom was a crazy cat lady, a real soft touch for animals. In college, I studied Philosophy because it was a comfortable place for a skeptic and a problem-solver. Later on, small business became my outlet for learning and having an impact. I opened a restaurant that became a local hot spot with two friends in 1994 (Café Uffa, in Portland ME), and when we sold it in 1998, the only obvious choice was to open a pet supply store, because I love animals & healthy, good-tasting food, & the independence and creativity of small business. I called it Fetch, ‘Portland’s Alternative Pet Supply’, & began experimenting with not just selling stuff, but educating customers about natural pet foods. And sourcing high quality, fun, interesting products. Since then, we’ve changed our name, & evolved a lot as a company. We’re still focused on animal well-being through nutrition & play, supporting animal welfare groups in our communities, & updating the concepts of ‘pet supply store’ and ‘pet boutique.
