Lily’s Correct Carpet and Oriental Rug Cleaning

My stairs are carpeted, and after getting a puppy and hosting 30 Airbnb visits it needed a deep clean. I couldn’t stand it another day, and when I saw the reviews I called and scheduled an appointment immediately.
Everything about the experience was easy and delightful. John and Mike came over and let me know what to expect. They got to work quickly and did a great job; as a bonus they were super nice guys!
I highly recommend this Lily’s.

The team was super professional, explained exactly what was going to go on when they arrived. Got here on time and didn’t take a second longer. Cleaned the grime and crud right out of my yellow trellis area rug and even made an awesome restaurant recommendation a few streets back. Net, net: I will use this company every time I need to clean a rug. OH and they were able to squeeze me in the day I called. A+!!!

My fiancé and I are moving into a new place and thought it would be easier to have our rugs cleaned beforehand. They were all gifts from my father which he brought home from Nepal and non-​toxic cleaning was important to us. I called Lily’s over the weekend and they were able to come out Monday night. Bonus points: they came in the evening so we didn’t have to make special arrangements to leave work or put dirty rugs in my car to be transported somewhere.
The guys arrived on time and got right to work. They told us exactly what they were doing and made friendly conversation along the way. In 2 hours and they cleaned all 5 rugs (3 big, 2 small) to perfection. They looked brand new and it was worth every dime! (don’t forget to tip!)

Fantastic company that provides eco-​friendly rug cleaning. The crew was really nice to have in our home, and they seemed genuinely interested in doing an excellent job. Easy to communicate with the owner and schedule via email. Will be using them on a yearly basis to spruce our place up.

I have a recovering sick cat who managed to throw up all over the carpets in my new apartment. So I called up Lily’s on Sunday and they were able to get me in on Tuesday (which was also Christmas Eve!).
They were very helpful in the booking process and explaining what to expect. They showed up right on time and were extremely friendly! They were efficient without seeming rushed and really went above and beyond the basic carpet cleaning!
My apartment looks incredible and not covered in gross toxic cleaning products! It smells and looks great! I am really sensitive to cleaning product smells and my apartment doesn’t have that at all!
I would highly recommend Lily’s and will definitely be using them in the future!

After a very drunk friend stayed over this past Friday night, we awoke to a much-​puked-​upon loveseat. I was ready to cry — we had just bought this new set a few weeks ago, and this particular make was discontinued, so I thought we would have to buy a whole new set.
Once the hangover subsided, the boyfriend suggested getting it cleaned. I had no clue this was even possible, let alone who to call. So to Unilocal I went, and I’m so glad I did.
Jonathan, whose wife is the famed Lily, picked up right away. He gave me a quote quickly and efficiently — for a 2-​seater couch cleaning in our home, it would be a minimum of $ 99; with the puke stains, it cost $ 120, and he stressed that the crew also works on tips. I obviously wish I didn’t have the situation to deal with in the first place, but it was better than spending hundreds or even over a thousand on a new set. Jonathan said he could try and get here by the end of the weekend, but he called back moments later to say he squeeze us in that same day — score! That alone was worth it. Plus, I’m way too squeamish to go anywhere near vomit, let alone scrub it up, so the fact that someone else cleaned it was a life saver.
When the crew came — Jonathan, John and Brandon — they were on time, super polite, and walked us through the cleaning process, showing us the eco-​friendly solution they use from whole foods. They cleaned the cushions and pillows in our bathtub, but went to painstaking measures to make sure our shower curtain was out of their way, and moved our bath rug and trash can so they wouldn’t get ruined either. They also cleaned the bathtub and our living room floor when they were finished.
They tell you ahead of time they need you to provide a roll of paper towels and a few rags or beach towels you don’t care about. Also be sure to have trash bags or something to lay the cleaned cushions on. They also told us the operation is cash only.
They gave the couch itself a good cleaning — they used some steaming equipment, brushes and cleaning solution to concentrate on getting the puke stains out, and then cleaned the whole thing since we weren’t quite sure exactly where all the yak got. We watched them do a ridiculously thorough job with brushes and the steamer, and the solution left a really yummy-​smelling lemony fresh scent.
They were in and out in about an hour and a half, and told us that the cushions would be dry in a day and a half. They left around 4pm Saturday and by Sunday night, they were ready to go back on the couch. There’s no noticeable stain anywhere on the couch or the cushions, and everything smells fresh and clean. One pillow, which got the brunt of the upchuck, doesn’t exactly smell super fresh but it doesn’t smell bad either. And I only know that because I was practically burying my nose in it, trying to see if there was any odor left. The loveseat is also a tad bit scratchier than before, but that was probably just because the material was exposed to water or something, and after sitting on it for one night it’s not as noticeable. I’m also probably just being unnecessarily nitpicky.
The crew was also super friendly — Jonathan oversaw them and gave direction when needed, but also chatted with us about some good spots to go apple picking and beaches to check out. He also told us how the company got started — his wife Lily had to write her Tufts master’s thesis on dry cleaning solutions, and decided to start her own business after she graduated. That made me feel like I was in good hands.
I hope we don’t have any more accidents requiring their services (sorry Jonathan!), but if we do, at least now we know who to call. I would definitely recommend them to anyone else.

Today they cleaned 2 bedrooms and one staircase, and they did an absolutely outstanding job. They showed up on time with four people in total. The estimates matched the price. I added 15% to the total as a gratuity for a job done well.
I requested that they use a «free and clear» soap solution. I think they used one from seventh generation, and there was absolutely no odor remaining after they completed the work. That was extremely important to me. I hate for my bedroom to smell like Febreze or Glade. For me, getting rid of dirt means clean. Artificial fragrance does not mean clean.
The rugs were really clean when they were finished. And I will be calling on them again in the future. Thank you Lily’s.

After years of neglectful college students living in my rental apartment, the off white wall to wall carpets were a disaster. Spills, dirt, and who knows what else had really discolored the carpets with some large stains as well as general traffic discoloration. I honestly was not sure that anyone would be able to help — especially a company that doesn’t use harsh chemicals, but decided to try these guys out anyway.
Booking was simple, and they called when they were on their way to let me know they were stuck in a bit of traffic. Once inside, the crew of three guys began working immediately. It was refreshing to see that they did not mind getting down on the floor and scrubbing. I’ve used cleaners in the past that only use machines, and no elbow power. It’s clear this extra effort makes a difference.
They were done in about 1.5 hours, and all the really bad stains were GONE. I could not believe it. The carpets looked amazing considering the abuse they had been through. They were also accommodating and were able to maneuver around some large items. They left no mess and cleaned up after themselves.
I wish they took credit card and provided a receipt on the spot. However, they did email me one later on in the evening so that worked out (as a landlord, it’s important to keep all records). The quote over the phone was a bit lower than what the total ended up being, but I was so blown away at the difference they made that I was ok with the extra cost. I’d highly recommend these guys.

I would have given 5 stars but I thought it was odd that they asked me to supply paper towels to clean up. GREAT service, rugs have never looked better and I have two oriental rugs. I highly recommend. Good price and they come to your house! At a time that is convenient for you! (after work for us). I would use them again, definitely.

Jonathan was very professional. I had an antique 3′ x 5′ Handmade Hooked Rug made of yarn that is framed in an antique picture frame. I brought it to many different cleaning place and they could not do it because it is in a frame. He was able to clean it for a very reasonable cost, and it looks as good as new now. I did not even notice that there were 2 shades of white to indicate different texture of snow. Wow.

I used this place to clean my carpet. It was like a whole new world. Dazzling. Delightful. I recommended it to my many friends who have flying carpets.

I’m not sure if I would recommend Lily’s in all cases. Our rugs really needed cleaning and Lily’s doesn’t use chemicals. They rely on soap and water which is ideal for a home with pets. Our rugs are nothing special nor particularly valuable.
I was puzzled by the many reviews on Unilocal that included providing a «generous tip» — something I’ve never seen in any other review. When I spoke to Jonathan I thought the reviews must have come from him because he emphasized that the employees appreciate a generous tip. He was one of the employees who came to my house and mentioned it a couple of times during the visit.
The review from Andrew H. makes some points we definitely agree with. They were nice and worked hard and steadily until they were done, but you really wouldn’t call them «professional». There was some minor damage but otherwise the results were okay although not outstanding as many reviewers described.
The carpets were very wet for a few days and that didn’t leave me with the nice clean fragrance I had read about in some reviews. They definitely removed a lot of pet hair, dirt, most stains and I felt the carpets were clean as a result. They may be a good choice for carpets that aren’t expensive, and for people who value the personality of their contractors above their professionalism.

I had to throw my Indian silk rug in the trash after the service I received from Lily’s.
Lily’s is an uninsured cash-​only business, and any damage caused by the «carpet cleaning professionals» they hire will get you a refund only. Jonathan was very nice on the phone at first, though continually emphasized tipping the employees (If you’ve called, you probably heard his routine).
On the day of the appointment, 2 20-​something guys pulled up in front of my house in a beat up car wearing jeans and t-​shirts. They were nice guys, but I wouldn’t call them business professionals. I made sure to tell them I had an expensive Indian silk rug that needed cleaning and they said that was fine, they’ve cleaned plenty before.
An hour later, One of the guys is scrubbing my rug to death with a heavy-​duty scrub brush with Lily’s cleaning solution (which is lavender-​based cleanser). All the grime and dirty water they collected was sloshed around in a bucket through my house and then dumped into my tub (which had to be cleaned after they left… Thanks guys).
5 days later (yes 5) my rug was still wet and separating at the base from being so wet. We collected handfuls of rug and filled 2 trashbags with what was left of it. I called Lily and things turned into a nightmare.
I was told by Lily there was no way they could have damaged the rug. I asked if they were insured and she got very defensive and standoffish. She had Jonathan call me back later. Jonathan called back later and said the same thing. He said things like, «They’ve been cleaning carpets and rugs for years and this has never happened.» «You’re just looking for a lawsuit.» «What kind of people are you?» etc.
He offered to come to my house with one of the employees who «cleaned» it and I said sure, you can come see it for yourself.
He came into my house and began to tell me they didn’t cause the damage. He was convinced we had him clean a ruined rug. I went downstairs, and I heard him start to raise his voice to my wife. I came upstairs and told him to lower his voice in my house. He said we weren’t being honest people, he yelled at us both and was unwilling to be reasonable. He did not offer to refund my money for the service at first and he REFUSED to reimburse us for our destroyed rug. I asked if they were insured, and he got very argumentative and rude.
Before the dispute was settled, he called us liars and stormed out of my house. He SLAMMED my front door mumbling under his breath, and he SLAMMED my outer porch door.
Lily called later that night trying to smooth things over because she was afraid her uninsured, cash-​only carpet cleaning service was in danger of being sued. She did nothing but defend her employees and avoid talking about money. Finally she offered to refund my money (including generous tip). She said she’d just send Jonathan over to my house sometime during the week and put an envelope in the mailbox when I wasn’t there. I said no, I don’t want cash in my mailbox and we arranged for a time when I was home. He brought my money back 2 days later. Jonathan handed me an envelope, smirked at me and said «Good luck». My wife and I discussed things further and decided to let it go and not take them to court. We still had a ruined rug, however and we asked Lily if she could offer any help or services for removal. She and Jonathan both recommended I go on the internet and find out how to dispose of it. No customer service whatsoever.
The «customer service» I received from these people is the WORST I’ve ever received in my life. There are so many positive reviews on the site from people who’ve had good service from them. I am afraid for the next person that is unhappy with their service, though. Jonathan is a typical loudmouth and hot-​head who needs a lesson in manners and customer service.

Sorry to temper the extasy here but, Uee T. got it right.
If you have average carpets you’ll probably do well with Lily’s. Yes post-​student lifestyle does in fact suggest, and maybe even demand that you not walk around on your lifestyle history, as the collage in and on your carpet.
So go and get a nice scrubbing for those Crate and Barrel lovelys, and still-​servicable Able rugs. However, if you have higher quality rugs and if they are light in color in any location, beware– you may see the homage to that history in the form or brown residue when all is done. Unfortunately.
So my experience OK but not very good; a definite A for effort as the team did return and do a second try at no cost. But the net was again a mixed outcome of semi improvements and semi worsenings.
How can this be?.. well its a relatively water intensive process– that means as soapy water, with now enlightened dirt, ‘travels’ thru your rugs fabrics, etc, it acts a bit like a chromatograph. And you don’t want to be reading the printouts right? So once clear off white fields of color either bled color (should that happen with water?) or now contain the residual dirt, appearing as a sort of pastiche of tan, cream here and there. Or a sort of line of brown here and there.
Again, good work, and good concept and good price but ask alot of question first.

First, their intake process is superb. After speaking to an employee about the company the owner, Lily, got on the phone is explained her philosophy and thesis on PERC– you know that highly toxic chemical I ranted about in another review? Yeah that. They don’t use it here so there is no chemical left behind that you have to live with.
The results were awesome. The staff was polite and worked quickly– I was amazed at how much dirt came out of a seemingly clean carpet. I was also pleased that the carpet dried overnight. A week later it looks and feels cleaner. I’m happy with the results and will use them again.

Absolutely fantastic.
I was in the market for a couch cleaner and came upon Lily’s business card in my building’s foyer. After reading all the fabulous Unilocal reviews, I decided to give them a go. SO easy to set up an appointment (nights and weekends? Yes please.) And they came right on time. I have a pretty big sectional couch and the quoted price was just right. The two guys that came to clean did a great job and were so fun and nice. I might even throw dirt on my carpet just so I can have them back here again. Awesome job, and would definitely recommend!

They are HERE right now scrubbing away. I CANNOT STOP staring at the carpets! the difference between what they’ve scrubbed and the carpet they still need to get to… NiGHT & DAY!!!
