Extended Stay America – Seattle – Bothell – West

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE HOTEL’S AMENITIES/​ROOMS
On August 29^th, 2015 we did NOT stay at the Extended Stay America in Bothell.
Backstory: We had been on the road for 10 hours that day, driving a 20′ U-​Haul truck and towing another car… to our new home in Bothell! Trees down, power lines across the access into our new place plus an annoying chubby rain… the neighborhood is dark and still unfamiliar. We ventured off in search of a place to lay our heads.
Nearing midnight, we saw some lights at the end of the darkness… civilization ahead! It was a H****n with their lights on! The CSR at the front desk said the inn was full and when I pressed him on any helpful suggestions for a stranger in a strange land…“None that come to mind…” was his dismissive answer.
I suppose it slipped his mind that less than ¹⁄₁₆^th of a mile away is the Extended Stay America — Bothell — West. Honestly, if it were dogshit I would have stepped in it… it was that close to the H****n!
By this time we’re thrashed… must crash soon, at this point the car is looking pretty good for the night. I hit the lobby and meet Gail at the front desk. «All booked up…(sigh), but wait, here’s another option up the road…». She gave us easy directions with a warm smile and I offered the best «thank you» I could in that moment.
But wait… the property we’re going to is back into the dark and powerless neighborhood, we find it, but it is without power… and without a room for us.
I took a chance and u-​turned us back to the Extended Stay with the hopes that Gail could offer us any hope of finding a bed.
Entering the lobby, she looked up, smiled and said she just got off the phone with a friend who works with another competitor, we can get a room there… and we did!
THANKS TO GAIL. She listened to us with compassion & empathy. Offering help when needed… THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!

If I could give no stars, I would! TERRIBLE! There was food in the microwave, a dirty fork in a drawer, the bathroom (and shower curtain) reeked of urine, and there was hair in the shower. Also, you have to stay 7 nights before they offer room service. Who has ever heard of such a thing? For the same amount of money I would MUCH rather stay at another hotel that is clean and offers room service.

The only reason this property gets a rating of 2 out of 5 is because of the majority of the staff and how friendly and professional they are!!! other than that, I would give the hotel itself somewhere between a 1 and 2 rating.
Check in was easy and the front desk staff very friendly. The hotel had some odd smells which are most likely due to guests cooking in their rooms. The beds were somewhat hard and uncomfortable and housekeeping did an abysmal job of cleaning the room as there were black hairs in the bathtub and I even found an old mans cane underneath our bed!!!
The construction of the hotel is extremely horrible as we were able to hear loud guests in the room next to ours as well as people in the room above ours walking around. The cupboards were stripped bare of any usable items such as dishes, cups, silverware, etc and we had to request what we needed on a separate sheet of paper.
The very first night we were there we were woken up very early in the morning by a housekeeper who kept going in and out of the room across from ours and letting the door slam each time! When I called the desk about this issue, I was informed in a snippy tone of voice by Anna «Well the maids have to clean the room sometime» to which I replied, yes, but not at 8am in the morning and they certainly don’t have to let the door slam every she goes in and out of the room. Anna promised we would receive a call from the hotel manager which we never did.
The grab and go breakfast is really pretty much of a joke. Some packets of oatmeal, some apples (no bananas) and some granola bars and coffee. We skipped it for a real breakfast at the Maltby Café instead!
In addition, the Wi-​Fi was very weak, the TV remote barely worked, and the water pressure in the shower was extremely weak as well.
The online reservation process was a joke as well as I received a discount offer that didn’t work even tho it hadn’t expired and had to contact someone at ESA to get assistance with this issue in order to book the correct rate I was being offered.
The staff at this hotel is Awesome, with the exception of snippy Anna, and I certainly don’t hold them responsible for the fact that this is a cheap, poorly constructed hotel with paper thin walls and ceilings and room doors that slam so loudly that they could wake the dead!!!
The location is great being right next to a lot of shopping and restaurants as well as just 2 minutes to the freeway.
I thank all of the staff for attending to our needs and taking such good care of us, especially Karen who spent a lot of time with me on the phone before our stay and the manager Rachael who addressed the loud maid issue, but unfortunately due to the poor quality of the property, we wont be back.

My boss bought me a 1 night staycation at this hotel for my birthday. A local night away from the kids where I could enjoy some peace and quiet for a full 24 hours! True I probably would have enjoyed this anywhere, but at this particular location,
Check-​in was quick and painless.
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The full kitchen in my room was one of the best I have seen, made me wish I was staying longer.
While I remembered to pack myself a bottle of wine, I forgot a cork screw and to top things off my lighter (I had a smoking room) died on me. The front desk provided me free of charge with both a corkscrew AND a lighter.
For those of us 5’9 or taller, the bathtub was long enough and deep enough to fully extend and soak comfortably!
On top off all that, this location was within walking distance of an Arby’s, Outback Steakhouse, Applebees, Wendy’s, Jimmy John’s will deliver here, and for those of us smokers, two 24 hour gas stations are within walking distance as well.
I just might have to turn hiding out from the family here into a regular thing!

Price was good, around $ 80.
Love these studio rooms with kitchen, roomy, and I actually like the only once a week maid service, because I can get things set up the way I like it, and not have to keep putting things back to the way I like it daily after the maid cleans it.
Floors were pretty dirty when I arrived, but the front desk gal came and gave it a mop. Either not mopped or mopped with dirty water?
Staff was always able to help me with things I needed. The only problem was my non-​smoking room was obviously smoked in extensively before I checked in. The front desk said the previous guest said they had their windows open and smoke wafted in, this is total bullsh*t, someone smoked in that room, and not just a few. I realize a hotel is kind of between a rock and a hard place, because you basically have to call your customer out as a liar, when they give you that kind of story, but it’s unfair to the guests after, who have requested a non-​smoking room. (of note: the building had some landscaping, and a pathway, before hitting a fence; which was probably 10 feet at most from the window, so no one would have been smoking back there based on the 25 foot rule)
1. Is there a test of some sort that can confirm someone has smoked in a room?
2. Should a guest be held responsible if they leave their window open, and let such a huge amount of smoke come into their room? (the room had air conditioning, so it’s not like you don’t have a choice)
3. There are professional ways of cleaning a hotel room after it has been smoked in, that are the industry standard. This should be charged to the guest that smoked in the room, and if the hotel is unwilling to pin them down to it, the hotel should pay, it shouldn’t just be ignored.
A mix of people were staying here, some professional people, tourists, construction workers, but there also were some people that looked low income or homeless, and appeared that they had been there for awhile. They just didn’t look like they could afford $ 70+/day for a room, made me wonder if the government was subsidizing some to stay here in-​between housing, it caused no problem for me, it was just something I observed.
I felt safe here, my car was safe in the parking lot, I did take all the normal precautions when parking in public ie not leaving things in view in the car, not opening my trunk to expose what I had in it.
WiFi worked fine, TV was good, a little limited in channels with this chain, but sufficient.
Bottom line, you get what you pay for, and this is a great value for a studio unit, they would have got 4 stars if the room hadn’t been smoked in, or something would have been done about it.

where to start? We will never stay here again thats for sure. On the drive up to the parking lot, litter everywhere. Go into the room and it smells dank and stuffy, open the windows to let the fresh air in, and people outside smoking, so cigarette smoke is rushing in. Checked with the front desk and patrons allowed to smoke as long as 25 feet from building. So, check one for smokers, zero for me as I cant have fresh air in my stinky stuffy room. I think its funny what someone else said about the toilet. It is not man part friendly! Furthermore, when you flush, it sprays all over your legs and feet. Same with the shower, lots of pressure, but the shower head makes it feel like needles on your back and i think more water gets on floor and ceiling than on your body. Kitchen… there is a full kitchen but i found it odd that there was no utensils, towels, pans, plates… very bizarre. And extremely bummed that there wasnt a small coffee pot with complimentary coffee. (this is shown in the pics by the way) The beds are the most uncomfortable things we have ever had to sleep on. The floor with a blanket would have been softer. No sleep at all for two days straight for all three of us. Towels in the bathroom were like sandpaper. Awful. The pictures are deceitful thats for sure. I wondered if the sheets and blankets were clean because there were long hairs in the sheets that my son slept on. Fans and exhaust vents were thickly covered in dust hair and dirt. I can probably keep going, but if i have saved someone the waste of money in staying here, then my goal is accomplished! There is a comfort inn across the street… i was wondering if it was any better and the same price range?

Some of us cannot help where we stay for the night — Corporate books you a hotel room and you deal with it. If this is the case for you, nicely ask your coordinator to put you anywhere but here.
I am honestly tempted to discard every article of clothing that I wore while in this room. The girl at the front desk, Joellen, has been the only saving grace of this stay… someone give this girl a better job!
The first room they gave me had not been cleaned… at all! Initially, I noticed that the bed was unmade. I cannot remember EVER walking into a hotel room and finding the bed entirely unmade. Upon further inspection the bedsheets and pillow cases were full of black hairs and debris, and the countertops and kitchen were littered with the previous occupant’s trash! I won’t even describe the bathroom and toilet seat… it’s my hope that nobody vomits while reading anything that I’ve written.
After a call to the front desk to describe the state of the room, Joellen promptly moved me to a room down the hall. She informed me that she had checked the room and asked me to let her know if there were any more issues. Though I’m sure it appeared clean at first, further inspection revealed that the second room, in no uncertain terms, was just as bad as the first (disgusting bedsheets and bathroom). It was entirely out of empathy that I did not request another room change at 1:00 in the morning and slept in my rental car instead. If this is the standard of cleanliness we have come to expect, WE ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE.

Overnight visit with my daughter who goes to college in the area. Went on
to book a room. Got a great deal, but it was scary since you don’t know which hotel property you are going to get when you make the bid. The location of this hotel was great — conveniently located right off 405. There are several restaurants and stores in the surrounding area. The property was well maintained and the parking lot was very well lit. Upon check-​in, front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
We were assigned a first floor non-​smoking room. First impressions of the room — it smelled funny. That was first and foremost impression. While we were out for the evening, we stopped and bought air freshener. It was that bad. Not sure what the odor was. My daughter thought smoke, but I’m not sure that was it.
The room was a single queen bed. Mattress was firm, but not uncomfortable. Small flat screen tv, recliner, one desk table with chair and a small kitchen table with chair. Closet was open with a curtain. Cheap looking white wire racks, but there was an iron and an ironing board so it all serves its function.
The small kitchen was nice and seemed to be pretty well equipped, including microwave, stove top and a full sized refrigerator. For a stay longer than one night, this would be ideal. The bathroom was clean, but lacking in some basic amenities that we have come to expect are included in hotel stays: shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer. I went and inquired at the desk and was happy to know that they were available there. Shampoo and conditioner may have also been available (I know they had tooth brushes and tooth paste), but I didn’t need them so I didn’t ask.
They offer a «Grab and Go» breakfast. Coffee, hot water, hot cocoa packets, tea packets, instant oatmeal packets, fruit, muffins and granola bars. Very disappointed that I didn’t see any orange juice or milk offered.
On-​site laundry facility is a nice bonus. Credit card required vending machines are also available. Free wi-​fi «lite» in your room, you can pay to upgrade to faster wi-​fi if needed.
Nice enough hotel with very friendly staff. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Just would remember to bring an air freshener from home next time in case the rooms always smell funny.

Great stay while away for business. I have been to this location a couple times and will be going back. It isn’t anything fancy but inexpensive, clean and easy to get to. Nice room both times, with a nice restaurant within walking distance. For a hotel in this price range it is worth it.

I wish i could give zero star. I stayed in this hotel for a week and somebody broke my car in parking lot and stole a bag full of my baby clothes. And staff don’t even care. I would stay never stay in this hotel. Its most unsafe. And the smoking smell is all over the place. I would say if the person who stole my bag is reading please give that clothes back to me they are my sweet memories.

if you are seeking a room with yes a very firm bed which is alright by me, quiet and comfortable no frills room at a decent price this establishment is not a bad option. The one thing is they do not offer room service so if you need shampoo or towells you will need to go to the front desk, we were there 3 nights and there were plenty of towells to take us through. the reason we chose here was because it was a mile and a half from our friends house so the location worked well, oh and the staff were very congeniel

Three stars for the new Signature Suite room. Two stars for my actual stay, a full week in mid-​June.
Unfortunately only a ground floor Signature Suite room available, no smoking, right across from elevator. Yes, very noisy, throughout the day and night.
Same rock hard bed, but new paint, new floor, new bathroom.
Occupant in room above mine was also very noisy and stomped around late into the evening entire week. I HATE ground floor rooms.
Staff courteous and pleasant.

I’m giving this hotel 2 stars based on the following:
–towels were small, thin, and old. Like sandpaper!
–bed was extremely firm (AKA uncomfortable)
–hallways smelled awful! I think they use some sort of industrial potpourri odor spray but it’s overpowering and disgusting

Yes, I have experienced better. Way better. But hey, it was the cheapest I could find at the last minute. Due to personal stuff, I decided I needed to stay-​over somewhere other than my house last night. This was the closest and cheapest I could find.
What the heck ever happened to the $ 39 motel room? Oh, am I still livin’ in the 80’s?
Well apparently, cuz the cheapest room I could find was here for $ 70 (weekend rate).
As another reviewer mentioned, the bed was pretty darn FIRM. But actually didn’t cause me any discomfort in my messed up shoulder.
I had asked for an extra blanket when I checked in, knowing from previous experience that hotels only clothe the beds in wispy thin materials they jokingly call blankets. The extra blanket was clean, smelled fresh, was blemish free, but was a bit stiff like it had gotten a small hit of starch. Once I wrapped up in it, it softened right up and kept me warm all night. (This was such a spur of the moment thing that I didn’t even have any jammies with me).
The rest of the room was nice enough though. It had a cute little kitchenette, easy chair, clean bath (no shampoo provided — huh? $ 70 bucks???). They even let me stay an hour longer than the usual checkout time of 11am. That was great for me, cuz I am no morning person. And it was doubly good, cuz I didn’t really sleep much all night.
Another plus — at least in my book — the front doors are locked at 11pm, so only guests with card keys can get in. Ups the saftey factor. Though you could think why there is a need to do that…
Anyway I’d rather give it a 3 ½ stars cuz it’a decent enough place with nice enough staff but the «Meh. I’ve experienced better» pretty much sums it up.

Somehow managed to get a non-​smoking room during the great blackout of 2006. The staff at the desk was friendly. The bed was like recently hardened concrete. The shower in room 219 was cold… not freezing, but not warm. But it was warmer than our powerless house, and relatively clean.
