left my house on bear creek toward 9 today ready for a busy day. The horrific noise and grinding and screeching from my front tires/​brake area didnt bode well for the day. Well i remembered seeing Mountain Mechanics (and recalled they were always busy s thats a good sign)…so I took a quick right on Big Basin and pulled right over… I approached DANA who was busy working and I said, «I am in big trouble and I dont know what is wrong. sounds like my brakes». This nice guy said, «pull it in. Ill put it up and take a look… sounds like a rock got stuck in/​around the brakes…» Dana jacked it up and in five minutes, called me over and said, «look at this.» pulled out a tiny rock. THIS GUY was amazing kreskin… if I need any fortune telling Ill go to him. LOL. Diagnosed it even before he had proof of what it is. Thanks Dana for saving my sanity. When something REALLY goes wrong Ill go to Mountain Mechanics!

Wonderful place. Competent, reliable, cheerful, quick. Chris Currier is terrific. Other mechanics are also wonderful. These guys are a go to place for repairs of automobiles.

I I have been going here for 10 years. It has been great. My only complaint would be that Chris takes the approach of «if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it» when I might wish to be a bit more proactive. That said, a few years ago a Subaru dealership tried to get me to put in new water pump (when the car had 60K miles and it hadn’t failed). I refused, and finally got Chris to do it at 90K (at a much better price too). He’s been working all our cars forever, and I rue the day when I move away from here and have to look for a new mechanic — I know I won’t find one that I can work with like him! Also, he listens to what I say — I have been used to men looking at me (female) and paying no attention to me when I am trying to describe issues that need repair. He keeps better records on the cars than I do.

If I were you I’d be very careful about going in here I took my truck in for a break service And tune up charge me over $ 1000 and did not do the brake job correctly here it is less than one year later I’ve already had that my brakes redone the rotors replaced which she did not even check so my advice again I’d be very careful about going in here and get two or three estimates before you mountain mechanical do the work on your car

Chris is an amazing guy! I went in when my side mirror got knocked off. He told me that I could get a new mirror or he could try to find me a cheap used mirror. The next morning he told me to bring my car in because he had already found a used replacement and he offered to give me a ride to work (right up the hill) which was so incredibly sweet of him. When the repairs were done I was still at work and couldn’t get there in time to pick up my car so he left the keys under the seat and told me to come in and pay him within a few days, whenever I got the chance. I’ve never met a more honest or caring mechanic and will not go anywhere other than Mountain Mechanics ever again!

I love this place! I have been to most of the auto places in the area and had terrible experiences every time. But Chris is awesome. I told him what I needed, he explained what he could do, and all of my options. He saved me SO MUCH MONEY! Not to mention he called me to communicate, and even put the car on the lift to show me his work. This man is a quality mechanic and I’d be happy to send any one if my friends there!

This is a late review but a honest one. I had Jiffy Lube (stupid I know) do a oil change for me and 2 days later I had the check engine light come on. I am thinking ohh great just what I need. I have my own code reader so I know it was something not great but not super bad. When I went in to have it fixed and narrowed down the problem I expected a much larger bill than I did. Not only did they have is fixed in a few hours from drop off it was under $ 50 bucks. It was a hose that Jiffy Lube have messed up near the air filter. I did have to wait a week for a appointment because they are busy, but it was totally worth it.

I happen to be working on a house up Bear Creek road a bit and I needed to get a new axle on my Subaru. I just hopped in to see if the price was better than my mechanic in San Jose. For some reason it was $ 60 cheaper for the job. It was done timely and I especially liked the fact that before I left to get to work, Chris took the car for a spin to see if he could feel any issues.
He also was able to tell me what other issues I have coming up and he filled my transmission fluid up for free.

This guy is awesome. Great customer service, did a wonderful job on my daughters, ancient Acura, and the pricing is fair, and I would say cheaper than other places. I would recommend him for sure, and I will continue to go back.

I’ve used mountain mechanics several times since moving to the mountains… and they’ve always been friendly, quick to get the work done, always more than fair with the cost, and they’ve never recommended work that didn’t need to be done (unlike any dealer I’ve ever gone to) They are awesome! :)

Chris is the only mechanic I totally trust. My wife has brought our aging Dodge Caravan to him from 1997 until now — he’s been nothing but the best. He cares, he is honest and he’ll tell you straight up.

Chris is an honest mechanic and he’ll work with you. He’ll also tell you what he reccomends — take his advice. He is usually swamped between people dropping their cars off and picking them up and trying to answer his phone, but somehow he squeezes you in and finds out exactly what your car needs. The drop off with the key in the door makes it very convenient to get your car worked on. The other guys who work there are also friendly and hepful.

Mountain Mechanics has kept my family cars on the road safely and economically for the last 20 years. Chris is really a local treasure; caring deeply about his customers’ needs and highly competent in satisfying them. Like the first reviewer, I hate having to take my car elsewhere for smog check/​alignments, but that’s no reason to withhold a star, they deserve them all.

Very good shop! I used to work on all my vehicles years ago, but no longer have the time, so have used Chris for a number of years now. Honest, good prices, does a great job and doesn’t do unnecessary work (which is hard to find these days). A lot of times I don’t even see the guy, I’ll just call ahead of time, tell him what needs fixing, drop the car off in front after hours, leave the key in the drop box and he calls me with an estimate and what needs to be done. When it’s finished, I give him my visa number over the phone for the final total and he leaves the car out front with my spare key and invoice locked in the car. Very convenient.
