Boulder Insurance Group

We had a very bad experience with Boulder Insurance Group. We would not recommend them for renters’ insurance. We can’t say about other types of insurance.
The initial inability or unwillingness to answer questions — basic questions, like what is and what is not covered, was pretty astonishing. Indeed, I asked a total of 18 questions over two emails and none of the questions in the second email were actually answered while we were engaging the firm. Instead, they said that «there is only a limited amount of time during the day to take care of our clients» and suggested I find another firm. When dealing with a policy that would be the primary means to recover every item we own in the event of a catastrophe, questions about what is and isn’t covered shouldn’t fall outside of what you allot time for as an insurance firm.
Moreover, after having received what appeared to be primarily home owners policy information (we wanted renter’s insurance), we did not have the sense that there was much attention to detail paid to our situation.
Why the insurance industry (for renters’ insurance at least) seems in large part incapable of actually explaining what their policies cover and don’t cover is baffling. I would highly, highly recommend, if you do have, or are looking into getting a policy, that you ask very specific and detailed questions about just this.
For example, most, if not all policies have monetary caps on specific types of items like furs, firearms, and/​or watercraft. But some also have caps on things like electronics and computers. What this means is that you could have a $ 100,000 worth of coverage, but if you have a cap of $ 2,000 on electronics and $ 50,000 of your claim is for electronics… guess what, you get only $ 2,000 for that portion. So unless you have $ 100,000 worth of pens and pencils, you probably aren’t covered the way you think you are. Look into it.
In any event, I received an earnest apology from the firm (after I sent an email complaining), though that didn’t change my experience. Nor does is change my recommendation to look elsewhere for this type of insurance.
UPDATE: After we had found other insurance from a different firm and made it clear we were very dissatisfied with the level if service, we received a second apology and answers to our outstanding questions. Although this, too, seemed earnest, for us, that was too late.
We did upgrade the rating to two stars though for the effort.
UPDATE: with regard to the comment below, I received an email from Matt DeYoung when I first contacted his agency for renters’ insurance in which he responded that he had an agent who specialized in renters’ insurance and put me in contact with that agent.

Low Cost Health Insurance? YES!
I found Boulder Insurance Group through a Boulder Chamber of Commerce event and decided to ask Matt DeYoung if he could help me get some quotes for health insurance, as I’m a contractor and need to have my own individual coverage. I’d never done any shopping for health insurance before and was expecting to pay a premium.
Matt and I discussed my lifestyle and needs and were able to come up with a plan that fit them both perfectly… for $ 100 a month! I was totally blown away. I had put off my search for a long time thinking the premiums would be ridiculously high.
The best thing about it to me is that I didn’t have to pay Matt for helping me, the insurance companies that I signed up with compensated him.
