Easton Training Centers

I have never been to Easton Training Center, but if I lived in Colorado, they would be my first choice. On 3÷21÷2015, two young and very loved lives were cut short in a tragic accident. When Easton Training Center learned of this tragedy, they took it upon themselves to purchase a sign along the freeway in recognition of Stephanie Webb and Levi Sanford. This act of kindness has touched so many lives, and a thank you just isn’t enough. Thank you Easton Training Center for your compassion and sense of community.

I decided to train at this school while visiting Boulder (I’m from NY) and I really liked the atmosphere. They let me drop in with no problems. If you’re looking for a great school, I highly recommend Easton.

I had an excellent experience at Easton Training Center in spring of 2015. My friend Alex spoke very highly of Easton’s from his training in Muy Thai. I had been recently injured and had a semi urgent interest in self defense. Alex thought learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would fit my needs.
I stopped at the gym to find out about a class and Sarah who was working at the desk was helpful and friendly. The general manager Mike Tousignant is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has been studying/​teaching at Easton for over 8 years. He figured out a way to accommodate my injury while teaching me some basic principles of Jiu Jitsu.
Over 7 private 1 hour classes I learned beginning techniques for defending myself against assaults from the front and behind and from choking, grasping, or being knocked to the ground. This intro to Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense has been amazing. I need to keep practicing. Mike video taped the techniques to my iphone so that will help me to strengthen my learning.
One of the younger coaches helped teach my classes. She has trained for several years at Easton’s. Killian has very solid teaching skills. I know she works a lot with the kids program. I would highly recommend her to anyone learning Jiu Jitsu.
My Jiu Jitsu classes surprised me by how powerful my defense could be even while I was not physically very strong. It was enlightening when I compared Jiu Jitsu I was learning at Easton’s to my previous study of a Korean form of Karate.
I noticed that the owners Amal Easton and Eliot Marshall were very involved in the running of the gym. I met both of them and could see their interest in teaching people of all skill levels including a novice with a specific interest in Jiu Jitsu as well students training to be successful in MMA. Even before or after classes, the owners were with the students and talking about anything from their kids’ birthdays to upcoming tournaments.
I watched one of Helio Gracie’s last interviews before he died at the age of 95. He adapted judo to become Brazilian Jiu Jitsu– he made it into a martial art that would be effective even when practiced by children or people with limited strength. Helio Gracie’s ideas and principles shined through my experience at Easton Training Center.
The other thing that really stood out to me at Easton Training Center was how clean the facility was. Even the locker room was really clean and I could see someone had set up a system to keep it from getting cluttered from gym bags and jackets left behind. The locker room is stocked with soap, hand lotion, shampoo, a hair dryer, mouthwash and hair bands.

Best BJJ and MMA school in the greater Colorado area! I have been in the business of MMA schools for the past 15 years and I would recommend Amal’s program to anyone interested in learning these fantastic sports. It takes years to develop a solid program and train staff, Amal has been a staple in the area for several decades. As far as Brett’s comment on price, the industry standard for MMA programs is over 200/​month and its worth every penny. On average most members spend 4 – 8 hours per week receiving high level instruction from world class coaching. I would pay MAX dollar to train with the best, never in my life have I regretted spending money on my training, its brought a meaning to my life that can not be measured.

I emailed this gym about a week before I was due to spend a week in Boulder and Mike replied very promptly and invited to train as much as I wanted while I was in town. I made it to 5 Muay Thai classes that week and had a blast! The coaches were very knowledgeable and the classes were intense which is just what I needed while I was on vacation. I was treated very warmly by both coaches and students alike and would highly recommend this place to anyone living in town or visiting!

Absolutely amazing training program! I stopped in for some Jiu Jitsu while I was in Boulder for a few days. Everyone was extremely welcoming and the atmosphere was fantastic.
I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out if you live in or around the area. You won’t be disappointed!

I’ll start off with the elephant in the room — no one has commented on the price. It is not published on their website nor will they answer your questions about it until you come in for a «free introductory class» so I did so (at their Boulder location).
179/​month regardless of # of classes attended (more on that later)!
The class itself was great. Coming in as a nidan candidate (1^st level black belt) in Japanese karate (a Shotokan derivative), I felt that I was well-​prepared compared to the other 4 newbies that were testing out the BJJ class with me. The purple belt «coach» was clearly knowledgeable and a great teacher over all.
After the class us newbies received what amounted to a sales pitch from their membership coordinator. She quoted the $ 179/​month price and offered ½ off their enrollment fee of 100 if we registered right then. Now… I have 11 years of karate experience in San Diego (a more expensive city than Denver) and I NEVER paid anywhere near that rate. I trained 3x/​week, taught children 5 – 15, attended summer and winter camps and did all the other things that come along with a full-​fledged karate membership. Are people really satisfied paying almost 200/​month to train? All I see if 5 star reviews!
I will be going back for an intermediate fundamentals class on Thursday (offered for free as well), but I don’t think I will be continuing after that. It’s simply just too much money for what you get…

There is no better place anywhere. Great classes, Superb teachers, all staff are friendly and helpful. Everyone is professional, courteous and kind. Easton is my playground, I love it, and appreciate the opportunity to work out there. I go to Easton several times per week, and hope to do so for many years to come. I don’t have kids, but if I did, they would definitely be signed up for classes.

I just started kickboxing at Easton Boulder and love it. The facility and staff are top notch. Super great classes and clean, well-​maintained training center!

Only Place to train in CO

Easton Boulder is amazing. It is a real training family. Each person that respects his or her partners is welcomed with open arms. The coaches and trainers give you the opportunity to push yourself to the limits, but also give you the space to do it right. Easton has the best coaches and trainers I’ve ever worked with in any sport.
Management also is fantastic and dedicated to making this place a life changing experience for everyone involved. They are succeeding. It is a special place.
Finally, the type of exercise offered here is different. You don’t just go through the motions. Classes in BJJ, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, an CrossFit, push you mentally and physically in a different way than traditional exercise. Your brain is forced to work and learn, which is the real fountain of youth.
Just give it a free week and see what you think. You will see why Easton members are such dedicated fans.

Awesome place — my 4 year old loves it. The BJJ coaches are extremely high energy and very good teaching /​playing with the kids. Highly recommend checking this place out. Incredibly clean and spacious inside.

I love training here. I always get a great workout, the coaches are definitely the best in the Denver area (not an opinion, check out all the competition wins), and everytime I walk in the door everyone calls me by name and is extremely friendly. My son is finishing up their week long kids summer camp and now BJJ is all he talks about. This place is top notch!

I’ve never had any martial arts training of any kind before, but I’m glad I went with Easton Training Center. The staff and coaches are super friendly and welcoming, and really geared towards helping you improve your form, whether it be in Jiu Jitsu, Crossfit, Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc. No matter how big or how small the classes are all the coaches are really motivated and do their best to focus on each individual.

Our son has attended the children’s program at Easton since he was 3.5 and now he’s 7. It is by far the best sports children’s program we have been involved in. The coaches are not only fun and great with the kids, but organized and awesome at keeping them on track and involved. I would recommend this program for all ages! The crew here makes everyone feel welcomed and challenges all ages to do their best.

I have gone to a few BJJ schools across the country and Easton BJJ is the best by far. They have created an atmosphere that’s amazing for both beginners and those really looking to take their BJJ to the next level. Everyone has a different experience when first starting out, some struggle, some thrive, but no matter what, the instructors here are amazing at pulling you through whatever you’re facing and supporting your own journey through BJJ. I cannot recommend this place enough. It has certainly changed me for the better.

I would recommend this school to parents of a 4 year old and and a 64 year old looking to learn Bjj. A fun, and safe learning environment from many of the legendary teachers and competitors in the sport and their fantastic instructors.

OK– I’m saying this upfront. I am not the average person who finds BJJ appealing– I am a girl, who likes girly things, who doesn’t like «wrestling», (yes yes i know that BJJ is not wrestling, hence the quotation marks), who sees no appeal in fighting on the ground, and who hates things where you have to improvise, which this is. Also– I am very happy in my current, (yet only) martial art. I like it, and don’t really plan on wavering from it, (see my review, of course, for Golden Tae Kwon Do Family Center). However, my best friend came to TKD with me, so I agreed, begrudgingly, to go to BJJ. As such, I am comparing my experience as a visitor at his school with his experience, (and those of other new comers) as a visitor at my school, and how I’m used to my school treating them.
We arrive about an hour early so that my friend, (a blue belt), can give me some introductory instruction. I have to pay $ 5 to rent a gi, which turns me off a lot. At TKD we don’t really care what you wear your first time. My friend explains that it’s because of the lapels. OK– except that I’m coming to beginners class. Are you going to be choking me with my own gi on day one in a beginner’s class? I’m doubting it. Also, my do bok could easily be used to choke me, since it does have lapels and is HUGE on me. I don’t like being charged money to see if I want to pay you large sums of money.
Class starts– at this point I have seen three classes begin and have not seen a single black belt, (or professor as they are referred to). My instructor is a purple belt, (the middle belt in the series, often assumed to be equivalent to a black belt in another martial art because of the time involved). This is another red flag to me, because in some ways beginning classes are the most important and hardest classes. And therefore the hardest and most important to teach. I am used to seeing no one under a third degree blackbelt in the TKD world, (which would be a black belt in BJJ land) teach classes, let alone beginning classes. The «coach» for my class doesn’t know about half the students’ names. He doesn’t ask me who I am, as I obviously am new, and I am obviously friends with someone the instructor knows. We go through warm ups and rolls, hip-​outs etc and then start going into learning some mount escapes. I work with my friend and then we do drills of these escapes by pairing up randomly.
This is an interesting system which I actually really like– there is no distinction in weight or size or gender. The emphasis is on what you can do with your body, not on the size or weight of the other person’s body. i am easily outweighed by 50 pounds by almost every person around. Being able to regain control over someone that size is admittedly cool, but also these are all white belts for the most part and if there’s one thing i know about white belts it’s that they are really really dangerous. In TKD when we spar we NEVER put white belts with white belts because that’s a guarantee that someone will get really hurt. As a musician whose hands are the most important part of my body, I don’t like being with people who are as bad or ill experienced as I am.
Throughout this class I am asked my name no fewer than three times by the coach. Class ends and I am asked my name AGAIN. He doesn’t ask how I liked it, or if I have any questions, or if I’m thinking of continuing, or, well anything. It seems obvious to me that he either thinks I will not come back and therefore should not be asked, or he doesn’t care enough to have me come back because he doesn’t think I’m worth it. He is not the owner, obviously, so he doesn’t have as much reason to care, but I am bothered that I don’t know who the owner/​operator/​manager is, their name, etc. If I were running this studio I would be bothered that people are coming in to try and are not really being followed up with or encouraged.
I know this is coming off like I don’t like this studio because it’s different from my own, and I am not trying to come off that way. My issue is that there is a very big lack of a community feeling. I didn’t feel like anyone wanted me to be there, and that’s not a fun feeling. And no, I don’t think this is a size thing either– I don’t know how many students this particular Easton school has, but my TKD school, one of two, has had over 1000 students and has at least 150 currently enrolled. The owner is one of 2 teachers, and he’s there every day. He knows everyone’s name, and when visitors come, he talks to them before during and after class. He follows up and wants to know what they liked and didn’t like. In essence, they truly are a «family center», as the name says. Maybe that’s why I didn’t feel the same way when I was at Easton. I had a good time but I felt like no one would even realize that a potential student had just come to their studio and would probably not come back.
