The Home Depot

We came to this store seeking items for our daughter’s condo. Being on vacation from the east coast, we didn’t have tools for a few unexpected minor improvements. The store gets a four star rating, as it was generally easy to find our items and employees were helpful. However, CHRISTOPHER gets five stars for going above and beyond when I asked him if he could cut a section to size from a wire mesh roll we were purchasing. Very helpful and polite. Give this man a raise!

They fired all their experienced people who knew information and replaced with new lower wage people. They saved money at expense of customers.

I shop here all the time, especially for garden items and when I need something weird; the folks in their plumbing and hardware sections can always figure out what I really need. But I just saw an article about one of their asst. managers making and donating a cart for a dog that suffered a stroke – and now I’m forever sold. Most big chains don’t do this kind of thing and if they do, it’s takes weeks to get approval on up the ‘chain’, so to speak. This guy talked to the dog’s owner and within a day had the cart made and customized for Greta, the ailing dog.
Way to go, Home Depot

This review is specifically for this store’s design center based on our kitchen remodel this summer. We didn’t have a great experience and recommend potential customers take their kitchen remodel elsewhere!
Here’s a brief list of where we were dissatisfied.
1. The design process in their store took for ever. It was often difficult to communicate with the designers and arrive at the same expectation.
2. There’s very little direct collaboration between the kitchen designers and the flooring designers.
3. In hindsight, I’m surprised my wife and I agreed to purchase a kitchen remodel from a supplier who never, even once, sent the designer to actually look at our property on sight. They sent another person to take photos and the design worked off of their measurements and description. This really wasted a lot of time with back and forth miscommunications.
4. We were strongly advised by the designers to use a sliding pull-​out drawer in the three corners of our kitchen’s lower cabinetry instead of new lazy susans like we had previously. In the end, we were surprised how much harder the pull outs are to use and the drastic amount of space we gave up.
5. The designers didn’t consider that our new microwave cabinet would require electric hookup. That didn’t work so well! I’m still working to schedule and pay for my own electrician to correct that.
6. The overall installation was divided among three outside companies. Home Solutions (who had two separate stores, one for the floor and one for the cabinets), Front Range Stone (for the counter) and Anytime Mechanical (for the appliance reconnect). No one coordinated the efforts or scheduling of these companies! It fell on me to use an extensive amount of my working day to call each of these companies and relay information back and forth between them. Home Depot didn’t set the expectation that they would step away from the entire effort once the sold the materials.
7. The companies Home Depot handed the project off two botched our appliance reconnects time and time again over the course of months. Every detail of getting our sink, dishwasher, range, garbage disposal, trash compactor and refrigerator back in working order required rescheduling, repeat calls, extra on-​sites and in more cases than I expected additional costs.
8. The countertop installers damaged our new cabinetry. We’re still waiting for an evaluation on repairs or compensation.
Overall, it’s very clear that Home Depot sells the product and isn’t in the business of installing or managing the project. I strongly recommend you seek design and installation services elsewhere even if you do choose to order materials from the store!

I shop here quite frequently and I am always greeted warmly and am asked by several employees if I need assistance. They always walk me to the item I need or introduce me to another employee who can help. The store is always clean and fully stocked.

I am having a HELLish experience with Home Depot and their subcontractor, Home Solutions, who does their carpet installations. They are INCAPABLE OF SHOWING UP within the time window they provided. After waiting 90 min PAST the time window, I gave up and went to work. My time is worth NOTHING to them. When you talk to Home Depot about it, they act like it’s not their problem and they’ll do you the favor of calling Home Solutions when they get time! Their process is set up so you can’t call Home Solutions yourself which is extremely annoying when Home Solutions can’t get the job done as promised. I HATE HOME DEPOT. THEY COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY SUCK. AWFUL IN EVERY WAY. GO TO LOEWS!!!

The fridge I bought two months ago just had the handle fall off as I tried to open the door. In addition the appliance is sitting more or less in the center of the room Installers told me I would have to have about ¼ inch of wood shaved off the cabinet at the top of the fridge. It was stuck more or less in the middle of the room. TheyI said they told me I needed to have the cabinet altered a tiny bit but they did not say the fridge could not be pushed into place. Since I did not want all the food to spoil I accepted the fridge but it has been inconvenient finding someone to alter the cabinet. I called the store and they said that they could not help.
They should have told me I would be walking around a fridge till the work could be done. So between the handle coming off in 8 weeks and the install issue, I cant honestly give a good rating.

I tried to return a new, never opened item to HD with a receipt and was very rudely denied. They told me their policy for returns ends at 90 days. They did not even attempt to work with me. I offered to take a gift card, still no. I can understand how this can be an appropriate policy in some cases, but I would recommend anyone to avoid this store for the horrible customer service.

Home Depots installation company homeSolutions Sucks.
They send out unqualified workmen 90% of the time.
Believe me I know. Our window installation was a TOTAL nightmare.
Stay far far away from them for windows.
The in stock carpeting we needed in a hurry already, after only a half year is all matted down and is looking bad.
If you want cheap stuff and poor labor by all means go to HomeDepot!

Good luck getting someone to help you without them acting like you’re annoying the heck out of them. And if they do decide to help a customer, the associates still have NO IDEA what they’re talking about.

Went in with a short list of things and came out happy with the service and products.
Customer service pointed me in the right direction for the items I needed.
When I asked one of the associates, and older man named Mike in plumbing, he listened to what I needed and helped me make better choices than I had anticipated.
I wanted a tool to clean my oven and was thinking I would use a scraping tool to get the gunk off the bottom. He informed me that I didn’t need to do that if I have a self cleaning oven — turns out I do. And he was nice and explained the procedure and why not to use the tool.
He also helped me find products I needed for moving out of my room. He was so sweet and helpful and I am very happy with my purchases and experiences.

Attempted and failed to make a sizeable purchase at Home Depot Boulder due to zero customer service after 15 minutes. This is the typical vacant customer service level here. McGuckin’s service and product options are so much far and above Home Depot it is just plain silly.

Its Home Depot, they have almost everything you need… except customer service with a smile.
I own my own company, I recently purchased a warehouse space and I have been taking on the rebuild as a side project. With that being said, I have been spending a lot of time in HD. With my many thoughtless purchases I have been in and out with returns (after items sit in corners you realize that you just aren’t going to put the items into practice). I would take the items back, still sealed and in new condition and I would forget what card I purchased them on — the ladies behind the counter (mostly the two older women with white hair) would treat me like I was a criminal trying to extort money from them.
Apparently (after many many conversations on how rude these two women are with friends and contractors) contractors return items that they purchase from clients accounts and exchange them for gift cards without clients knowing and apparently I look the role of a man trying to scumbag HD (I guess I should have worn my suit when returning items I did not need).
Simply put, the women at the «Customer Service» counter are down right rude and almost offensive with their subtleties.
I know I should remember every purchase (my accountant reminds me of that everyday) but I just don’t and I take full responsibility for that, but that does not give these women the right to be accusatory with their passive aggressive verbiage. I talked with the GM and he stated that «a lot» and «most» and other terms that placed me in a general category of scumbag, unfortunately these are isolated and individualized cases and if the GM is not willing to except that then I can not imagine his Customer Service Team would be either.
In all honesty there is a Lowes closer to my house, I just started going back there.

I was trapped on the top of the soil isle for 2 days and the staff was so welcoming when they brought me down. They showed me the perfect tools and wood for a home improvement project i’m planning on. Wish me luck!

Home Depot in Boulder has completely lost their S**t.
3 of my last 4 trips they didn’t have the stuff priced right, and the sales clerk at checkout was powerless to fix the problem. I went in today to buy 1×2 furring strips, and the kid in the lumber area didn’t know what that item is.
From now on, I am heading to McGuckins for hardware, and Boulder Lumber for lumber.
«Clueless» is flattering for this organization.
In my experience, Lowes has always been better than HD, but now the drive to Louisville or Longmont is a no brainer…
BEWARE!

Mike Bishop in Kitchen Design is unquestionably the most knowledgable sales associate with whom I have ever worked. He an old timer with a past experience in the trades, and he knows all the ins and outs. If you’re looking to do your kitchen on a shoe string budget, Home Depot has good prices, but Mike is the guy to talk to. Thanks, Mike!

Countertop installation– purchased a countertop, their contractor took 2 weeks to come to my house and measure, 2 weeks to deliver and install. After installation we noted the cut faucet holes don’t line up. So we call the Home Depot contractor and they come a week later only to say, «Yep, it’s cut wrong». So now I’m waiting for them to fix it, at least a week or more.
Do yourself a favor, pay more money for professionals to do the job correctly the first time. Home Depot could care less, and their contractor is incompetent.

It’s the place to get what you need for those equity building home improvement projects. I find the people very helpful, too.

When I go to a store like Home Depot I try really hard to figure out what I need ahead of time so I can make the best of my time in this huge store. Today I went in and approached an employee to see where I might find what I was looking for. As he didn’t know what it was he tried to convince me I needed several other items. I confirmed with him that my contractor specifically requested the item and I went on to describe it to him. He brought me to the hardware section and told his fellow employee something along the lines of «maybe you can figure out what she’s trying to describe». I was elated when the hardware department worker knew the item by name & there was an entire wall of of this item with the name I provided printed on each little baggie.
It isn’t often that I feel that I am being talked down to but on this visit I was really put off. I’ll be going to McGuckin’s for all frequent purchases of this nature. Though not always as convenient to get to they are always extremely friendly and respectful.

Extremely poor customer service. Shoddy lumber.
Sweetie and I have visited this particular HD location many times, and have never been particularly impressed. This last visit encapsulated our ambivalence about the place.
We needed to buy 8 boards of lumber– 8 inches by 2 inches by 10 feet each– for a project. The location of these boards happened to be on a rack that was about head-​high. Given that the quality of HD lumber is not very good (as we’d discovered multiple times in the past), we knew that we were going to have to examine each particular board to find some that were acceptable.
As we arrived at that lumber rack, an employee came over and asked us if we needed help. Sweetie explained that we needed to pull the boards off the rack to examine them. The employee actually said, I kid you not, «that sounds like a lot of work.» And he turned away and left. A manager-​type soon walked down the aisle. We asked if the boards could be fork-​lifted to the floor so that we could look at them. He said no, and left.
So, picture this. Sweetie stood on a set of moveable steps, stretching on tippy-​toes to reach into the very back of the head-​high rack where the boards sat. He would grasp a board with his fingertips, wriggle it forward enough so that it fell forward off the stack, then slide it to me. I then lifted the board from front of the rack and set it on the floor. Sweetie came down the steps and we both examined that board. Then we repeated the process about 2 dozen times. Seriously.
(BTW, I’m not even going to begin to describe the liability issues that HD risked in making us do this.)
So, finally, we had examined all of the boards. Only a couple were good boards. We calculated that 12% of the boards were decent. (Not perfect, simply decent.) A whole lot of effort for a very little reward. Sigh.
