Great quality fruit and vegetables. Clean small store with friendly staff. Really affordable!

Good place for onions and potatoes. I’ve bought other stuff there too, everything from bean sprouts to cranberries. Grapefruits but they were smallish. Prices were good and the staff nice.

These guys usually have the best prices in the neighborhood when you’re talking about fruits or vegetables. It’s not a very large store, only one cash register. The aisles are usually crammed with people, so be prepared to use your elbows. The employees are very friendly. They’ll even let you pay for your purchase and then leave near the register and come to pick it up later. The mild annoyance is that it’s right under the elevated subway tracks. If you’re picking produce from the outdoor bins, you might suffer under the dangerously loud decibel levels. The major annoyance, which the store actually has control over, is the only-cash policy. I really don’t like carrying around pennies. Located at the northeast corner of the 231st and Broadway intersection, right near the subway steps. Edited to add: after writing this review, I decided to do some investigative journalism. Also, I was out of groceries. I went to Stop and Shop, the large chain store in the neighborhood, and compared prices. July 2, 2009 Zucchini: Stop and Shop — $ 2.50/lb Apple Tree — $ 0.99/lb Peaches: S&S — $ 2.50(and rock hard) Apple Tree — $ 0.99 Cherries: S&S — $ 3.99/lb Apple Tree — about $ 1.89/lb Cilantro: S&S — $ 0.99/bunch Apple Tree — $ 0.69/bunch I also wanted string beans, but Apple Tree’s were by the bag, and I prefer to select them individually. The bag would have been cheaper, but somewhat lower quality than S&S’s loose beans. Your move, Stop & Shop!
