Bad Bronx Academy Arts And Dance

So my disclaimer is that I’m NOT a SoBro resident so have only come up to BAAD! to either perform in a show myself, or see a very close friend perform. And before you judge please keep in mind this commute averages about an hour 45 for me. That said my third wish to a magic genie might be to transplant this little gem of an arts center into my nonexistent backyard. This space, started by modern dance/​theater powerhouse Arthur Aviles, is full of light, inspirational creativity, and HEART. The arms of this community are open really really wide, and every curated show I’ve been in or attended has included an incredible variety. You can see anything from ballet to drag in one night, though on second thought I suppose those two could be more connected that one might expect. Anyway, I can’t admire the community-​mindedness and artistic commitment of this organization enough. And if you’re STILL on the fence, THIS is the year to get involved! Arthur turns 50 this year and there are 50 amazing events throughout the year celebrating the milestone in BAAD’s honor!
