H&R Block

Taxes aren’t supposed to be fun however our experience with H&R Block Brookfield was mortifying! We switched from our family accountant last year to H&R Block for convenience. We were happy with the customer service/​price and decided to see Cathy again this year.
30minutes after our appointment time Cathy greeted us with «I don’t believe we have met?» ok, I get it — you meet hundreds of people a year but could you not just look at our account before seeing us? Not the greeting we wanted after we drove three hours to see her (we moved) but definitely a forgivable error. Throughout the appointment Cathy was extremely sarcastic with comments that consisted of asking my husband how he was qualified to the job he does (in a degrading voice) and if I have a green card (meanwhile my w2 is sitting right in front of her. I simply responded with, I LEGALLY reside here from Australia so my husband can continue his service in the military.
Then the unforgivable comment!!! My husband was questioning if he could claim books this year when she began telling us that we should just be grateful that his school was paid 100% from the state G.I. Bill. Personally, we are grateful for this however who is she to tell us to be grateful? This is none of her business — she has no idea what my husband has gone through in his two deployments. I looked at my husband in disbelief and wondered if he was going to pull her up on her disrespectful comment — he was speechless (which doesn’t happen often) There were more derogatory comments thrown our way throughout this appointment, belittling us. She was just on a rampage!!!
Lastly, the cost!!! We went into the meeting prepared with all the paperwork organized. Cathy looked through it all immediately and sorted it which would have been a perfect time to tell us that we would be doing a long form this year and that our fee would almost triple from $ 105 last year to $ 295 this year. She did not inform us of this the entire appointment nor did she walk us through it on completion. Cathy had her assistant finish up our appointment and my husband was the one that noticed the price on the screen. We were in shock, Its so hard to believe that a Marine that is in school and his wife in a regular 8 – 5 office job could possibly be eligible for a long form? Cathy overhead us discussing the price with her assistant and came over to blame the price on the fact that her boss was sitting next to us… We felt trapped, there as nothing we could do… Exhausted from her comments, we wrapped it up and got out as fast as we could. Beware, it is a Scam!!!
Oh and while paying the assistant said that we are lucky we didn’t go to turbo tax as the IRS aren’t accepting their returns due to fraud… I guess what H & R Block are teaching this year is to be grateful and were just lucky to have them in our life! NOT!!! Scam artists!
