Beantown Bed & Biscuit

I have been taking my year old cockapoo to BB&B for the past year. He has gone to day care, gotten groomed, and seen the vet. Everything has been top notch.
The best thing about the place, however, are the people. They really love what they are doing and love the dogs. My dog is comfortable and he pulls me all the way to the door.
One service I have used from time to time with great success is pick up. They come to the home and retrieve the dog from his crate. This has allowed me to leave early to make a tee time.
Did I mention the people? I am comfortable leaving my dog in their care. He seems to be happy, too.

Dr. Amy Straut is honestly the most wonderful Vet we could have asked for. The techs along with her have cared for our extremely hungry Labrador puppy for the last 7 months. She goes out of her way to make sure after he leaves to make sure he is doing well and she even has emailed me to set our minds at ease well after office hours. Her knowledge and care is phenomenal and we are lucky to have Beantown close by.

Dr. Straut and her team are the absolute best. From the receptionists, to the techs, to everyone, nothing but the best. We have a senior dog with arthritis and Dr. Straut put him on just the right combination of meds to put some pep back in his step. She regularly emails me to check up on him and is always available and helpful. She is everything I could’ve wanted to take care of my dog, and I’ve never felt better in a vet’s hands. If you’re looking for a vet and want the best care possible, look no further than Beantown!

I have been a client of Beantown Bed & Biscuit’s since relocating to Brookline 2.5 yrs ago. Since that time, my dog, Puck, has been a patient of Dr. Amy Straut, DVM, has been regularly groomed at Beantown, has been an occasional visitor to doggie daycare, and as I have needed, they have walked my little guy on the days that I simply could not get home in time to let my dog out. The staff at Beantown has, to a person, been warm, friendly and loving toward my dog as I have relied on them over and over.
Last week, on a very cold, January day, I had scheduled their dog walker to come during the day. When I returned home, I received the following note:
«Puck did #1 on his walk with Teddy, Gram, Lexi and Cocoa. He was a little chilly so I carried him in my jacket for a few minutes.»
Beantown’s care and attention with my pet has been been nothing but extraordinary. I am very, very grateful to Adam and his team for caring for Puck like as though he was their own pet. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty at every turn.

I would never expect the vet services at a place known for day car and grooming to be SO GOOD. Jasper is very young and nervous about anything new, but he gets so excited now when he hears Dr. Amy’s name. They really made us feel at home and you could tell the entire staff genuinely cared for every dog. The staff is extremely attentive and remembers the temperament of every dog so that they know which ones are ready for certain social interactions.
I have yet to use the day care/​boarding services and we won’t be needing a groomer, but I know exactly where to bring Jasper when we need someone to watch him in the future!

We use Beantown for grooming, daycare and vet care. We love Dr. Straut — she is so responsive and helpful with all of our concerns. And Winnie comes back looking beautiful after all of her grooming’s. The daycare is also great! Winnie is tired when she comes home and loves going there to play!

I’ve been using BB&B for about a year now, and it’s been great. Last year, when I lived in Brighton, I was working odd hours and used the pick up/​drop off service. My dog Mushu would get picked up and come home safely each day I signed up! The way the process works is you sign up ahead of time to schedule the pick up service, and from my understanding can go back in and pay later.
The reason I say from my understanding is that I forgot to come back and pay for the pick up services and came in a month later, apologizing profusely, and they were totally cool about it.
I haven’t needed to use the pick up service recently, but I still use the daycare. My dog is a bit timid and anxious, so when I drop him off, he starts a bit of a scene by barking and whining, but whenever I pick him up, he always leaves incredibly happy and excited, then passes out after eating as soon as we get home.

Updating my previous 4 star review because the folks at Beantown went above and beyond while caring for Emmet when he was there for a long 10 day stay. He was well fed, brushed, and they even stitched up and cleaned his favorite toy when it got chewed open by another pup! We always feel like we’re leaving him in good hands at Beantown, and get peace of mind when we can’t take him with us!

I agree with what others have said. This place is awesome. Everything is clean, the staff are all friendly and down to earth, and the vet service is top notch… and better yet, the entire staff adores dogs… what better place to take your pooch than someplace that loves them as much as you do?

Completely echo what Casey S. said — they’re so friendly, helpful, and caring. My dog didn’t go to their vet until he got sick while he was boarded and I saw just how awesome they were compared to my vet and her office. I switched vets that day and have absolutely no regrets. Dr. Straut is amazing as is the staff.

I’m a huge fan, both of BBB daycare and of their vet care. Dr. Straut is amazing. She’s very accessible and genuinely cares about her patients. I emailed her about my puppy and she read the message while out of the office for a conference; she then called me on her cell phone because she wanted to touch base to coordinate care for our dog. Our puppy loves going to daycare — she runs in each morning and comes home tired each night. We are very happy customers. Dr. Straut is amazing. Adam, the owner, is great. The vet techs and staff are friendly and responsive. All around thumbs up. I’d highly recommend BBB to anyone.

Beantown Beantown… I’m still bitter thinking about this place.
I had searched many places on Unilocal to help my maltese poodle get a new cut. Seeing that Beanton had many good reviews, I decided to give the place a call. The front desk lady has great customer service – informative and friendly. I asked her what the price would be for full groom for a small-​medium sized dog. She said $ 50.
I decided to take my pup. When I met the groomer, I told her specifically that I wanted his fur to still be long – to leave some «fluff». When I saw him 3 hours later, he was SHAVED COMPLETELY. I didn’t even recognize the poor thing!
Not only that, but when I went to pay, the price was now $ 70. (Keep in mind that my pup is well behaved; all groomers, including this one, said that he was cooperative and «easy» to handle so they couldn’t have charged extra for behavior management). SOMEHOW my pup’s cut upgraded to the «Premium» cut. Not once did I say I wanted this premium cut. I informed the front desk employee that I was told the price would be $ 50 but she said there was nothing she could do. It was extremely upsetting and disappointing!
Don’t get fooled at Beantown!

DIANDRA THE DOG GROOMER HAS NO CONCEPT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was very clear about how I wanted my dog’s coat to be trimmed. I showed her a picture and specified that I wanted his coat to remain long. SHE COMPLETELY BUTCHERED MY POOR DOG. Cut his whiskers off, and to add insult to injury she left his coat uneven. SHE IS EXTREMELY RUDE AND CONFRONTATIONAL, and did not once apologize or assume an ounce of accountability. Since she claims to work for herself, she is one dog groomer that DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR MONEY. If you care about your dog, AVOID HER SERVICES at bed and biscuit at all costs!

This review is for the grooming services only. Our puppy went in yesterday for her very first grooming appointment (she is a four-​month-​old cockapoo), and we very unsure how she was going to handle it (she doesn’t even like it when I clip her nails or brush her!). But as soon as we got to Beantown Bed and Biscuit, everyone there, from Charlie at the front desk to Deanna the groomer (sorry if I’ve misspelled names), went out of their way to make her feel at ease. We paid $ 35 for a puppy groom (wash and dry, head and foot trim), and when we came back two hours later to pick her up, she didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be bringing her back. And, for what it’s worth, we were there while other dogs were being dropped off for the daycare, and they were ALL pulling at their leashes to get back to the daycare and hang out with the other dogs, which seems like a good sign!

Just dropped our lad off for boarding for the next two weeks. The minute we hit the little alley beside Beantown he started smiling and shimmying and bounded into the gym with such gusto and joy. It’s nice to feel he has a home away from home. Beantown has been so amazing for his socialization and development. He’s great with other dogs and children and loves his Beantown family.

I had to write a second Unilocal review for Dr. Amy Straut and staff. What a wonderful human being and veterinarian she is! I cannot say enough good things about her and the entire staff.
After adopting a senior boston terrier, she became violently ill after the first few months of having her. Dr. Straut did a series of blood work and had a hunch there was something missing that wasn’t showing up. We had to go to Angell hospital to get an ultrasound, which in long story short proved my dog Emma had cushing’s disease. Dr. Straut made sure Emma got all the necessary medications to control her symptoms and make her comfortable. I got regular emails and phone calls from her making sure Emma was ok and improving.
I have never experienced a vet go so above and beyond for each animal she cares for. She is very passionate about her work and is very intelligent. I always knew Emma was in the very best of hands while she was at Beantown.
I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for a kind, honest and caring veterinarian! By far the best around!

This place is a total scam. I’m upset. I’ve heard great things about it both in person and on Unilocal,but because I found Beantown B&B on Unilocal,I must review it on Unilocal so no other dog owners make my mistake.
Here goes.
THAT TIME A DOG RAN AWAY
My first experience with Beantown Bed & Biscuit was in May 2013, when I saw a little Westie escape from the premises. Checking out the Unilocal reviews, I realized this dog was Flynn, and I contacted Flynn’s owner and let her know what I saw when I was shopping at the Brookline Booksmith.
I let her know I’d seen Flynn escape and told her more about what I saw, and how the rescue team didn’t really care to find him. She told me that she learned more from me than she had with the staff there.
Red Flag #1: While your dog will be happy there, expect NO COMMUNICATION from staff.
BUT I STILL WENT
Because of its convenience, I took my dog to the Bed & Biscuit despite having seen poor Flynn wiggle away, because, well, look at these other glorifying reviews. I’m big on Unilocal and maybe it was a one time thing. My dog is old, he’s polite, and he won’t be spooked, so it shouldn’t be an issue, right?
Wrong.
The first day I left my dog I mentioned that he had a limp, and we weren’t sure why. When I picked him up, they said they put him the rehabilitation center, which was nice and I appreciated it. They charged me $ 38, which is their price for daycare. Great, thanks.
I had his limp checked out at Angell and we learned it is a soft tissue tear and he can’t move. The next time I brought him in for daycare (I need him looked at ²⁴⁄₇ because of it and have to go to work), Dr. Straut and I discussed what we should do for him that day. We agreed that he needed to be in the rehabilitation center again.
Dr. Straut was kind and friendly, and that’s what pains me so much to have to write this review, because despite all the smiles, the service was still a scam.
I came back to pick my dog up and the receptionist told me he had been CRATED all day to make sure he doesn’t walk. He doesn’t like being crated – I wish I’d known this, I thought he was going to get a bed to lay down on, as had been previously described.
They then charged me $ 50. When I asked why it was $ 50, they said it was because the vet had to look out for him, so I was charged $ 12 more to have my dog crated. They couldn’t have told me this earlier?
AND THEN I WENT BACK. AGAIN.
When I asked why they charged me $ 50, the girl at the counter told me that he wasn’t a good candidate for daycare anymore, and he had to be in the rehabilitation center. OK, thanks.
But I still need to go to work, and I don’t have anywhere to let my poor dog go, so I said, screw it, I’ll shell out the $ 50 again for rehabilitation, not daycare.
I dropped him off a few days later and made it clear he was there for rehabilitation, and I made it clear that I would be okay paying the higher price. The owner said no problem and took him back.
FOUR HOURS LATER
I got a phone call from a staff member named Kate. Again, Kate is super nice, sweet, I really want to like her, but I just can’t get behind how they treated me or my dog in the end.
Kate said that the place can’t have my dog there anymore because he isn’t well enough for daycare due to his limp. When I said yes, I knew that, and that’s why I dropped him off for REHABILITATION, she told me I can’t do that either and had to pick him up right away?
And on top of that, they STILL charged me the $ 50 even though he was there four hours, I had to leave my job early, and they didn’t do so much as give a rat’s ass about my good, well-​natured dog.
NEVER AGAIN
I’m not sure what this place intends to be, but from the three experiences I’ve had, it’s a money hungry scam that doesn’t help dogs (or owners) in need. You better believe I’ve contacted the Better Business Bureau, too.
Sayonara, Beantown Bed & Biscuit. Never again. If you’re on Unilocal,don’t make my mistake.

Edited: well, it’s been a week since my visit, I followed the direction the vet gave me, I called the office asking if I can stop by and have the vet check if the medicine worked, because as you know — my dog can’t really tell me. Guess what? They wanted to charge me 40 $ on top of the 75 $ I payed during my first visit. Seriously?! I just needed a minute of the vets time to see if she did her job well, and they want me to pay for it?! It’s not a full examination, and lab work is not required. I’m very disappointed, I really thought I found a great vet.
Just moved to the area and needed to see a veterinarian for my little Chihuahua due to an ear infection that my old vet failed to cure.
The lovely veterinarian and her assistants were absolutely amazing!!! They all took the time to explain the procedure, double check the lab results (they did those WHILE I was there so my baby won’t have to suffer) and showed me how to apply his medicine !

This is the only place in the area where I would leave my baby Chewy overnight. I did a lot of research and when I came to meet the people here (and the owners) I felt very comfortable. These are dog people and everyone loved my Pom. It was expensive for me but I ended up leaving Chewy there for two weeks while I was on vacation and they took good care of him and Chewy seemed very happy, calm, and clean when I picked him up.
Chewy needed a vaccine before being admitted and thankfully the onsite (and very nice) vet was able to take care of him.

After seeing all of the glowing reviews on Unilocal,I decided to make an appointment for vet services for my 6-​year-​old Mini American Eskimo. I wanted to start with the Annual Wellness Exam but also knew I’d need to update her with her shots.
Making the appointment was easy and though the woman didn’t know the price for the exam, she took my email address and said I’d get the info via email, which I did.
Taking my dog anywhere is an anxious process for me because she has a very unique (to put it lightly) temperament. She has fear-​aggression and does not allow any stranger to approach her without reacting aggressively. But still, she’s my baby and is the sweetest thing once she feels safe.
The clinic is in an alleyway in the heart of Coolidge (next to Gap) and my experience there was great. The wait was not long and the service there was great. Ellen, the vet tech, was kind and welcoming, matched by Dr. Amy Straut as well. She took time to learn about my dog and her temperament and inquired about her health. She was very gentle and accommodating to my dog and was able to eventually pet her and give her all shots without any problem.
I’m very pleased to know we have a local vet now that we can call our own!
