Last November I had a disastrous run in with a young and inexperienced hairdresser. She was overzealous with the bleach and left my tortured hair looking and feeling like that of a Barbie doll who’d been left out on the sidewalk and ravaged by the elements. I knew that in order to correct the situation I had to locate Clifford Bouvier, formerly of Crew International in Brookline. I finally tracked him down at Michael’s Hair Salon, and I’m happy to report that the results have been amazing. Cliff knows what he’s doing, will listen to you, applies color meticulously and isn’t scissor happy. I opted for the Brazilian Blowout, an arduous application requiring some serious attention to detail which results in smooth, tamed locks. Cliff didn’t hurry the process and managed to be charming and funny throughout, the results are nothing short of fabulous. My hair now looks like Barbie freshly out of the packet. I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks Cliff!

When I came to Boston I was looking for a new hair dresser and to be honest I’ve had some really bad experiences, so choosing a new stylist is always nerve racking.
My best friend suggested going to her stylist, Sam (her hair is always on point) and I am so glad I did!
I had never really spent money on my hair, before, but Sam is so smart, kind and knowledgeable and I feel totally comfortable investing in her and my hair. The prices are very reasonable especially in comparison to a lot of places on Newbury street. Michaels is also really clean, modern and have a great selection of products.
To top it off, Sam is absolutely lovely to talk to and makes the experience at the salon really inviting and fun. She knows her stuff and I completely trust her style. Even though I haven’t ever walked out not liking my color or hair cut, Sam always offers to fix something free of charge if I ever need it.
My hair always looks healthy and beautiful and she truly listens to what I want to do with it, which is so important to me. I walk out feeling confident and gorgeous and isn’t that what you want when you leave a salon?!
I have now been going to Michaels for close to 4 years and even though I live in the south end now and not in Brighton where I used to, I still make the trip to see Sam because that is how much I love her.
If you are looking for a new stylist or want to change it up a bit, I would highly suggest making an appointment with Sam. You won’t regret it.

I love this place. Recommended by a friend a couple years ago. Always on time with appointments. Got my first highlights and Sam did exactly what I asked for. Prices aren’t cheap, but for a great salon in Boston it’s about what you expect. Usually $ 50 for a wash cut blow dry. Partial foil was $ 120. Rewards for referring friends. Sam’s been my stylist here for years, and so I knew I wanted to book her for my wedding day hair. She did my hair and my maid of honor’s hair, and she did a spectacular job.
My hair is very thick and textured, and at the time, it was very long. She managed to get it in a gorgeous up-​do within an hour, and it was unbelievably secure for the whole day. I had my hair up for about 12 hours, and it was just as flawless when I took it down at the end of the night as it was at the beginning of the day.
My maid of honor has a very stubborn part, and Sam managed to get it to stay side-​parted and look totally fantastic. My friend was very happy with her hair style, and it also held the whole night.

As a male with a pretty ‘bleh’ sense of style, I am always looking for a stylist that can take the wheel and give me a cut that they are confidant will look great. Austin nails it every time. I give him the most basic idea of what I think I want, and he transofmrs that into an amazing cut every time. Each time I see him, I tell him what I like and didn’t like from the last cut and he makes it better each time. Very personable, and he remembers me and my exact style every time. I wish I could bring him to San Francisco with me when I move there in June!

This was my first time at Michael’s Salon but it most certainly won’t be the last. My stylist Austin was amazing. I asked for a somewhat complicated red ombré dye and he did a better job than I ever could have hoped. He consulted with me throughout the process making sure everything was going as planned so I was never nervous and I completely trusted him throughout. He made it such a fun experience. The customer service here is also excellent and the facilities are clean and impressive. I would highly recommend going to Michael’s. I know when I go back Austin will be my go to stylist.

A good friend of mine goes to Sam and her hair always looks great, so I decided to give Michael’s Salon a try. My advice if you are going to do the same and see Sam is to be VERY SPECIFIC with what you want. I went in and told her I liked the length but wanted more movement and volume in my ends (pretty straightforward, right?), and she said she would trim my hair and give it some layers. An hour later, she had cut these terrible short pieces in the front and on the sides — literally like a helmet around my ears — and my hair now looks like it’s two distinct lengths. It looks awful, no matter how I style it. Huge, huge bummer. It’s going to take months to grow out. Needless to say, I won’t be going back.

Based on good Unilocal! reviews and looking for a haircut in the Coolidge Corner area, I decided to give this salon a try. I walked in and they were able to take me immediately and I had a nice cut. Sadly, they don’t take credit cards, which is strange, but let me since it was my first time. I liked the relaxed but stylist salon, it was clean and inviting. I will definitely recommend them and return for my next cut!

I LOVED this place! I work across the street at devotion school and called this afternoon to make an appointment. They miraculously had an opening for the same evening with the stylist Jen. It must have been fate because I loved her and my hair when she was finished!
I had been to two salons previously to get ombré hair coloring and no one could do it how I wanted. Jen exceeded my expectations and I left so pleased. Not only did she do a great job but she was efficient. Normally this process takes 3+ hours, I was done in a little less than 2! She was also so nice and easy to talk to. The price was very moderate. I have seen ombré for much more money but i was happy to pay the $ 120 for then ombré after seeing the results. Again her price for a cut was comparable for the area but it was totally worth it. This is my new salon!

After relocating from Connecticut to Coolidge Corner, I immediately turned to Unilocal to find a new salon with a good reputation. Michael’s was one of the top rated salons and happened to be the closest to my apartment, so I figured that I’d give it a shot. I made an appointment with Samantha (Sam) and had a fantastic experience.
When Sam asked me what I was looking for, I told her that I wanted «a shorter haircut, modern but not edgy, and something that I can easily style at home.» She delivered! I left Michael’s with the best haircut that I had ever received. I have been back once since my first visit and, again, was completely satisfied.
What’s better, the cost for a men’s haircut is only about $ 35. Not bad for an awesome look!

Look, I like the service that I’ve gotten here. However, I won’t be returning after today. I called for a return visit and the stylist I had seen was no longer on staff, so they said they would just schedule me with someone else. It was just a trim with no blow out and I was charged $ 70 instead of the $ 30 I spent last time! I have never paid this much for a trim before and they didn’t give me any heads up that the price would be different. The person at the counter said that, well everyone can charge different prices. It was a good cut but I’d like $ 40 of that price back so that I can eat this week please! I could have gotten a trim at the hair cuttery but I was trying to support a business that had been good to me in the past. And I regret it.

Caitlyn is great for highlights – she is super super fast and does an excellent job. I have been coming back for awhile because she is so much faster with highlights than anyone-​I am always in and out within an hour. I’ve never gotten a cut but know others who have who love her.

After living in Brookline for several years, and just not finding the right salon or stylist, a friend recommended Erin at Michael’s Salon five years ago, and I’ve gone to her ever since.
Erin always takes the time to ask me and listen to what I would like done, and I’ve been satisfied with every cut I’ve received. She’s also great with breaking down the styling tips (which I am most grateful for!) and recommending the right products with application advice so I can maintain the style at home. She’s very personable, easy to talk to, and we usually share a good laugh during the appointment. Above all, I’ve received compliments on every cut she has given over the years no matter the hair length.
In addition to having my hair cut every other month, I usually have my eyebrows waxed with Caitlin on the same visit. She also does a great job, and my brows always look way better than when I walked into the salon. I had my hair cut by her once while Erin was on maternity leave, and it looked fantastic as well.
The salon is sparkling clean and professional, and everyone I’ve interacted with has always been friendly and helpful. I’ve had no trouble making appointments, worth noting since after work/​early evening is best for me. I’ve also appreciated the times they’ve squeezed me in at the last minute to trim my bangs! The stylists, the service, and the reasonable cost make it my go-​to salon!

Highly recommend a new stylist who has been working there for about a year, Renee Fiore. Best wash I’ve ever had! I was a little nervous at first because she just started styling but I was so satisfied and happy with the outcome! Michaela’s salon is my new favorite and so isn’t Renee!

Just had the best haircut of my life at Michael’s! Sam, my stylist, listened carefully to what it wanted and absolutely delivered! She even haver options in case I didn’t love my new bang. She was polite and friendly, and made me super comfortable. She gave me great product advice without putting any pressure on me to purchase. Amazing experience!

I must first start off by saying that I have never frequented a hair salon more than 3 months before being unsatisfied. I have been going to Michael’s Salon and seeing Alicia for over a year now. I have been satisfied every time I visit her, and she is extremely funny, pleasant, and good at what she does. She has helped find products I like for my hair (and I am extremely picky), as well as update the men’s hair style guide to the current century specifically for me (for when I wanted a fresh look, but can’t verbally describe what I want). She knows what I like as have never disappointed yet.
Everything at Michael’s Salon is fabulous! From the price, to the lady at the counter, to the location, the décor, and Alicia. I will continue to come here time after time!

I would highly recommend Liz at Michael’s Salon as she offers excellent service and goes above and beyond to insure a great experience.
I found Michael’s Salon on Unilocal.I’m not sure why my appointment was made with Liz but I’m certainly glad it was. Liz listened patiently as I explained what I like /​don’t like as well as my concerns. I also asked for her recommendations which she gladly and confidently offered.
Not only did my color and cut turn out great, I asked Liz to show me specifically how she styled my hair after she finished because I really liked the look. She took the time to show me the different techniques she used, i.e. brushes, products, etc.

My mom has been getting her (very curly) hair cut by Michael (the owner) for years and a couple years ago (when I decided to upgrade from the crappy $ 15 haircuts I had been getting) I started going as we’ll. I get my hair cut by Caitlin (Michael’s daughter) and I can’t ever see myself going anywhere else!
The salon is clean, everyone is very professional, and I have only good things to say about my experiences at Michael’s.

I’ve been putting off a haircut for a while now because I haven’t found a hair stylist I liked. I finally bit the bullet and tried Michael’s Saloon. I really want to like them. They are a great price range, perfect location to my house and are very clean studio.
However, my hair stylist really was anything but perfect. First was her station. The mirror was burnt out in main areas, to the point I’m not sure how she could be accurate in cutting. She wasn’t very easy to talk to either. I take comfort very seriously with a haircut because it helps me understand what they are doing on my head. Plus, it makes sitting with someone for 30 minutes less painful. Bottom-​line with everything is the haircut is not straight and feels like I have dead ends all over again despite it being just over a week.

A friend recommended Caitlin at Michael’s to me, and now I feel like I owe that friend my life.
I’ve been looking for a hair stylist since coming back to Boston after college about four years ago. I think this is at least the sixth or seventh I’ve tried. I was consistently unimpressed with everywhere else I went, for various reasons (overpriced, dismissed what I asked for, too snooty, etc.).
Caitlin took the time to go over some pictures with me to make sure we were envisioning the same color when I asked for «caramel» highlights. She continually asked me throughout if I was happy with how things were looking, and at the end made sure I loved it before I left.
I never waited when the timers went off with the color, toner, etc. which I so appreciate– I’ve gone to salons where they overbook and when your color’s done you sit there for another 20 minutes because the stylist is cutting someone else’s hair– not cool.
I’m very happy with the cut and the color and thought the price was totally reasonable. Caitlin was so friendly and so was the receptionist and the woman who washed my hair (Erica). I’ll definitely be back!
