7th Avenue Framing

I went here bc it’s right near my house, but I should have looked at these reviews first. I also found their turnaround time bizarrely long. When my framed picture finally came back, it looked tacky and cheap. The owner nicely agreed to do a different frame. Unfortunately, the frame looks damaged; the wood is cracked and flaking. I think the shop just uses really poor quality material or something. Framing is expensive, and I’m willing to pay for quality work, but this is probably the worst framing job I’ve ever had done.

Find another place. There’s nothing else around? Figure it out.
NUTSHELL: They’re way overpriced, bizarrely slow, and somewhat incompetent.
DETAILS: We needed 5 mats cut (ranging in size from 5×8 to 24×32), and one small piece of glass (a standard 8×10 replacement sheet). The cost for the mats was $ 147 (no glass, no frames, no backing… just mats.) After 2 and half weeks, they called to say the order was ready. I picked it up, got home and realized they forgot the glass piece we needed altogether. After checking the sales slip, it turns out that the guy never wrote it down to begin with after measuring the frame in-​store, etc. Which, in hindsight, was a blessing in disguise. We probably would have paid something stupid for it, and now we can just get it elsewhere.
VERDICT: Find another place.

I was initially a little worried after I left a picture needing to be framed at the store. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted for a frame and was hoping for some guidance from these folks. who presumably do this for a living. A middle-​aged gentleman was behind the counter but he said he wasn’t into making decisions for customers when I asked him if he had any suggestions. Oooook? It was much pricer than I expected, but I don’t know how their prices compare to other local establishments. Nonetheless, I got a call less than 2 weeks after dropping the picture off that it was ready. It came out amazing and I’m willing to forget the initial experience because the final product made up for it. I would certainly trust them with my future framing needs.

I used to think 7^th Avenue Framing was pricey. But the folks who run this shop recently did three things so nice I have to issue an atta-​girl commendation!
No. 1: I recently smashed a piece of glass in a 5-​by-​7 frame. I took it to 7^th Avenue Framing, and they replaced the glass for free. Who does that anymore?
No. 2: I had to remove a picture from a frame they’d assembled for me years ago. They helped me get the picture out of the frame, then put it back in including sealing up the back with the brown paper and only charged me $ 5!
No. 3: I recently took a new image in for framing. Turned out that the gold frame I selected was out-​of-​stock. Bummer. But they called me right away to advise me, and THEN… a day later, they called to say they’d shopped around and found the same frame elsewhere. Great service coming and going!
I’d give 5 stars, but I want them to carry more stock frames and have more complete inventory of some standard items, like black, silver and gold frames in all sizes.
That said, the folks who own and run this place are very VERY nice people trying to do the right thing. Patient. Professsional. Courteous. Most important, they do a quality job. Top-​notch.

I’ve used 7^th avenue framing for years and they are fast, creative and professional. i am always pleased with the outcome; their help always enhances the look of the work i am getting framed, and they always provide the most economical yet beautiful solution.

Asked for some pieces to be matted. All I got was the mat itself — no backing! Plus, the mat was cut exactly to the size of then pieces, with no allowance, so when I tried to put backing on myself at home, it was a very frustrating experience. $ 100 bucks for three pieces of cardboard. I will never use this place again.

Never again. This place was extremely expensive, and they couldn’t even get a basic poster right. After taking the frame home, I noticed that the poster had major bulges. When I brought it back, they made me pay for the fix. Over $ 400 for a poster!

I have worked with 7^th Avenue Framing twice and have had nothing but positive experiences. Both times I needed glass put into frames that I already had. The first time it took about 2 weeks, but the second time the woman who helped me offered to do it the same day! I went to do some errands, came back 90 minutes later and it was ready to go! She was super-​nice and very helpful both times. Definitely great customer service. I’ve never had anything matted and framed here, but I think I certainly will.

I had a framed print that fell off the wall and was damaged. The glass was broken and the metal frame was bent. The stock of metal didn’t match the original color (it was framed years prior out of state), but I was told it might be possible to rework it.
They were able to bend frame back into place with only a minimal amount of imperfection remaining, which was placed on top and out of view. New plexiglass was cut, and the piece looks as good as it was prior to me dropping it. The money saved was substantial.
I have since had several things framed there and have been pleased with the work and price.

This is a frame store, but the service I had was not so professional. For a simple framing it took these people a «slow boat to China,» so to say. Nothing bad about China or the Chinese. I dropped of the item and got a price, paid in full and then, it took them not 2-​weeks, 3, weeks, 4 weeks, noooooooooo, it took them about 5 – 6 weeks (longer than a moth to turn from larvae to the time it can fly), to do a simple job. No call, no follow up; I called finally and it was «oh.,» «well» «let me check «(Imagine the guy ruffling papers in the background — unseen, hitting a water pipe with a hammer — unseen; and turning a widget wheel –unseen), to tell me a few minutes later with «fake bated breath, huffing and puffing as if he ran down a flight of stairs and back up in his sincere search of my picture. H tells me he needed another week, the job was «Sent out.» Yeah, like they have so much business they have to farm out their work… give me a break. Lastly, the are too pricey… OK, I was a jack ass, my bad, don’t do what I did.
I short, you probably get better service for framing at the next door Korean market, and THEY DON’T“T EVEN FRAME!!! Buyer beware.

7^th Avenue Framing never called to say my $ 300-​plus framing project was complete. When I called to ask about the status, the young man who answered the phone insinuated I must must have missed a call from them. «Ma’am,» he said, getting impatient, «We call everyone, and everyone says they didn’t get a call when they got a message.» Believe me: 7^th Avenue Framing did not call, did not leave a message, and I don’t appreciate the attitude from the kid who answered the phone.
The quality of the framing aside, the service here is amateurish — unprofessional and rude.

I’ve been doing business with 7^th Avenue Framing for the last two years (probably have framed 5 or 6 paintings during this time) and have had nothing but very positive experiences all along. There was one instance where I got my framed artwork home and noticed a fuzz ball floating in the space between the painting and the matting and they graciously took it back, had it reframed for no charge and with a quick turnover! Their pricing is slightly higher than other shops but I think that reflects in their work and customer service. I will use them time and time again.

I’ve been going here for a few years and have always been treated like a gold star customer. No complaints and beautiful results each time.

I spent months trying to track down this out-​of-​print old school map of Brooklyn that my husband really loved as a gift, and finally scored it on eBay. My first visit to the framing shop was very positive — the saleswoman was really helpful with what kind of frame I should use, and went back and forth with me for awhile as I made up my mind. She then said they could probably even rush it a few days earlier, which was great.
When I called back a few days ahead of the agreed upon pick-​up date, the guy who picked up the phone was very abrasive and downright rude. He said it wouldn’t be done by the time we had agreed upon, and he refused to tell me how long it would take exactly. And it ended with me basically saying, «I can’t believe you treat your customers like this,» and him smarting back to me and me hanging up. I was totally shocked. I had already paid more than half of the $ 700 payment to frame this!
Fast forward to a year later, and the quality is not good at all. The wood frame has warped so it no longer lies flat against the wall, and the poster itself is bubbling up. I’m really bummed because once the print is ruined, it’ll be hard for me to find another, and I’ve bought framed pieces from garage sales that look more professional. I’ll never go back to this place again, and would not recommend it to anyone. The only reason it gets two stars is because the first woman who helped me was awesome.

I had some questions about framing a painting I had so I stopped in. The blonde lady was short with me and very unprofessional. I left feeling angry. Couldn’t believe that a small shop like that could afford to treat customers like that. I then went to Prints Charming (also in Park Slope) where I was treated like a customer should be. They are currently framing that painting for me. I will go to them with all my framing needs in the future.

Competitive prices. A small but still a decent selection of frames. They gave me a 20% discount on a bamboo frame that had a minuscule scratch. Art supply store next door is good, too.

Good experience. The man I worked with was helpful and very nice. He helped me to decide which format was the best for my prints and they came out looking really great! Probably not the very cheapest but I think it’s worth it for quality work.
