Aleksandr Dekhtyarev, DPT

I know of no other Doctor of Physical Therapy like Dr. Dekhtyarev. «Alex», as he likes to be called, is one the most experienced, caring and compassionate doctors that I have had (to my own relief!!) the pleasure of meeting on this earth. His genuine love for his career and his patients are nothing but exceptional. I live in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan and travel twice a week to his offices in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn for the most amazing PT sessions. Before, I was going to therapy sessions at a top-​notch facility of a major NYC Hospital and was not seeing any improvements on my cervical and lumbar conditions. Once in the care of Alex, the relief of pain has radically improved. This doctor is an outstanding professional. For anyone in pain, it is worth the commute just to be under his care.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation. Dr. Alex gave my daughter personal attention with full evaluation. He is great knowledgeable therapist, caring, attentive and kind. My daughter who is doing rhythmic gymnastics for 25 hours a week complained at her hip and foot. Alex was amazing at making her feel better right away. I highly recommend Dr. Alex and team to anyone who is looking for a great physical therapy!

I went to PT because I was experiencing a severe spasming pain and my muscles locked up to the point where I could barely walk for over 2 weeks. I was blessed to have been treated by Alex. He was able to quickly assess my situation, pin point the cause of pain and began treatment. After the first visit the next morning I woke up with significantly less pain and more range of motion then I had in 3 weeks. I only needed a few more sessions after that before I was back to normal. Alex is very professional, knowledgable and expresses genuine care for his patient which is rarely found in the medical field anymore. I would definitely recommend him as a physical therapist to everyone.

My son received physical therapy through the early intervention program. From the first time my son was very comfortable with him. Alex was always friendly and my son always enjoyed his sessions, no complaints whatsoever.

I’m a professional photographer, and have used Alex to treat a work related injury. He was an absolute pleasure to work with! It’s nice to see that there are still people who care, in the medical profession. He went above and beyond his requirements. Spending extra time out of his personal time to make sure I get the treatment I needed, taking calls after working hours, answering any and all questions I had. Not only is he an excellent PT, he’s a genuinely nice person. Highly recommend him!

My toddler son was recently diagnosed with high muscle tone and we were told that physical therapy was critical in helping correct this problem. Someone recommended Alex to us and thankfully Alex was available to come see our little guy. From the moment he walked in the door, Alex has been a pleasure to be around. Not only is he very skilled and knowledgable in the area of pediatric physical therapy, he is also very nice and gentle with my little guy. He has a great way of putting kids at ease and making them feel comfortable — even my older kids want to play with Alex when he works with my toddler. Another quality I appreciate in Alex is that he is honest and conscientious in every regard (payment, etc.). I’ve dealt with other PTs who seem to talk about payment and fees and time slots, and very little about actual therapy. Alex is just different, in every way. He seems to genuinely care about his patients and that comes across really well with how he interacts with my little son and the entire family.
I highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a physical therapist! He is amazing!

First time ever I take my son (15) for PT for a knee problem… Alex asked all the right questions on his first visit to get a real good idea of how to best approach the problem. Alex treated me for back pain that I’ve had chronically from scoliosis and from long term computer use. My neck, upper back, and lumbar always feel like someone’s clamping a wrench to them. It’s frustrating and aggravating. Often, I have to just lay down.
I have to say, hands down, of all the physical therapists I’ve ever seen for this problem, Alex intuitively knows where the pain is, how much pressure to apply, and exactly how to give me relief from pain. His exercises to strengthen certain areas are very precise, and targets weak areas. Some exercises he’s designed himself. I went to him somewhat distressed about my neck and back, and thanks to his amazing compassion and patience for his patients, I always left his office feeling peaceful and aided.
Later, I went to Alex for a chronically sprained ankle, and I was equally satisfied with the results. His assistant, Yuliya, is also extremely competent and kind. They both speak Russian, Alex, raised in Brooklyn, is an absolute diamond in the sand. My only regret is that Alex doesn’t have his own practice, and that you have to go to Brooklyn to see him. It’s worth the easy subway ride on the D. Thank you, Alex! Too bad my insurance plan changed. But I’ll be back!
