ASPCA Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic

Took my 8 month old chocolate malti-​poo Korben to get neutered, I had my concerns on whether he would be ok but the mobile van was very professional and took good care of my little guy.
They arrived a little late but thankfully at my location, there was someone who had created a preliminary list before the ASPCA arrived to keep the peace. I have heard the lines can get aggressive.
If your taking your dogs for shots/​boosters make sure you have your paperwork ready. A woman on public assistance allowed me to be covered as her sister. I only paid $ 5.00 when my vet wanted $ 600! Without assistance its $ 125 — so you know i was too happy to save a bunch! Cash only at the mobile clinic.
Very kind and caring professionals doing a great service. When i went to pick him up the clinic was running behind schedule but I patiently waited. I went back in the clinic and took Korben who was so quite and shivering (im sure he was traumatized from the surgery) — at that point the clinic smelled really crazy but what can you expect in the situation lol .
Korben was sneaky and got around the cone they gave him post surgery — recommend upgrading at local pet shop or petco. I was so scared when i saw him licking his wound I called the care 24h hours hotline — they were super helpful. There was no infection but they counseled me through it and requested pictures before determining if I would need to see a vet for follow up care (which they would pay for– how awesome is that). Korben was just fine.
Overrall and amazing service— and kiss my ass vets who want to overcharge pet owners!

I went to the mobile clinic in front of Petland Discounts in Astoria.
I seriously cannot say enough good about this service.
We arrived around 5am and were number 5 in line, so definitely get there early. The truck showed up right on time and they explained how the system worked. We filled out some paperwork and they took the animals one at a time.
The doctor, Brandon, was nice as could be and answered all my questions thoughtfully. The volunteer (did not catch her name) was very kind and very helpful and eased my nerves when I picked up my pup.
It’s as stress-​free as getting major surgery for your pet in a truck can be. They actually do the surgery in the truck. They gave me care instructions and a 24-​hour hotline to call in case I had any questions.
The inserted a microchip, spayed, and even cut her nails for $ 145. If you have proof of public assistance, you get it for $ 5. You can also get flea & tick treatment (which I believe costs extra), and vaccines (no extra charge), which I didn’t get because I had already done so with my vet. If you don’t need vaccines you have to bring proof of vaccination.
Jane is happily recovering now. Thank you ASPCA for offering such a wonderful and affordable service.

Iv noticed none of the reviews here mentioned being from Staten Island. Well i had my 7 month old male cats neutered today on SI, In the metro pcs location. I believe Staten Island is probably a bit better than the other boroughs line wise because there aren’t as many people. I went today at 6:15 am and was #9 on the list, this isn’t on the website since it isn’t an official thing but LOOK FOR A LIST TO SIGN IN ON! I wouldn’t have known about this it it weren’t for some of the reviews here. Go to the location & ask someone already there If there’s a list, the first person there usually creates it. since this was a Parking lot location, everyone was in their cars except for one lady and her daughter. More people started coming around 6:30 am and they still made the cut. Im not sure if anyone was turned down besides a lady who came at 7:30 am which was after the van had already began processing. It showed up on time exactly at 7:00 am. vet techs came out & informed everyone of what was going to happen. We filled out very simple paper work. The worker took the list and asked if everyone signed it, so people who didn’t know about it had to then sign but I believe everyone did make the cut. Workers called each person in the van one at a time from the list which was annoying because this was another hour wait…(unless you have an appointment or are first few people) with filling paper work & waiting. Basically i finally left at 8:30 am, anyway we came back at 3:30, they didn’t return animals till 4:00 pm which wasn’t a big deal… They returned dogs first, and then cats. Before returning pets the vet tech told us how to care for the pets post surgery and when we went inside they individually speak to you if u have any questions. Now since they do a pre exam they will also let you know if ur pet has ear mites or something… I had my Medicaid card so for me this was free! For both cats. All I paid for was $ 20 each for them to be microchipped. But even without gov assistance it’s still cheap, $ 125 per pet. Anyway 5 stars because they are a great organization… My 2 cats have nailed trimmed, vaccines, neutered & microchipped all for $ 40, can’t complain at all.

I brought my 6 month old Shiba Inu to the YMCA location in the Bronx on Sunday, 3÷27÷2016. I got there at 5:15 AM, someone had already started a sign up sheet and we were number 4 on the list. We waited for two hours and the van didn’t show up, but an ASPCA representative came and told us that the veterinarian had to cancel so we couldn’t get our pets neutered/​spayed that day. He took down our names and numbers based on the sign up sheet and said that the ASPCA would call us to set up appointments for another date at our earliest convenience since it was their fault that it was cancelled. I received a phone call from the ASPCA the following Tuesday and set up the appointment for Sunday, 4÷03÷2016 at the NYCHA location in the Bronx. I got another call from them on Friday before our appointment to confirm, which was extremely professional and courteous of them.
Since we had an appointment, I arrived to the location on Sunday at 6:30 AM to wait for the van to come and drop off my dog. Once they arrived at 7:15, they called for people with appointments first then went to the sign up list for the first come first serve arrivals. They were running late so my dog was finally dropped off after filling out paperwork and everything by 8:30 AM. They were very helpful and clear with directions and told us to come back at 4:30 PM to pick up our dogs.
Here is the annoying part; we got there at 4:30 and they were still running late so we weren’t able to get our dogs until 5:30 PM. Luckily I had my car to sit in for an hour, but very annoying for the people that had to wait outside in the cold.
Although they ran late and we weren’t able to get our dogs neutered on the first day I came, I still give them a full 5 stars because of their professionalism and for the amazing love/​care that they provided for my little pup. The procedure was terrifying to me to begin with, but it went extremely well and my dog is feeling great even though it has only been a day. So far so good with no complications! THANK YOU SO MUCH ASPCA.
The only advice and tip that I would give about this process is just to be patient. Make sure you get there early because people arrive at these locations as early as 4:30 in the morning. They only take the first 20 – 25 people on the list, including people with appointments and some people bring two pets! ASPCA is a non-​profit organization that gives us the option to neuter and spay our pets for an absolutely amazing price so please patient and kind to them! The staff are great and are trying their best to help!

I arrived 6:40am and was number 12 on the list. The mobile clinic was there already. 8am I was at home. Super friendly staff.

To whom it may concern,
This is in regards to my efforts of having my dog neutered at your Mobil clinic on ³⁄₂₆ in front of the ANIMAL PANTRY on crossbay Blvd in Queens. I’d like to know the process. Due to the fact that upon my arrival @5:50am as a first come first basis in-​take, a Random man whom does NOT work for ASPCA asked me if I was on a list. The list was a notebook piece of paper. NOT a legit ASPCA printed sign-​in sheet. He said there was a list, I was standing in front of the ANIMAL PANTRY with my dog, no one asked me or should I be knocking on random car windows to be placed on a list? He said he was in his car… I did not know this is how ASPCA goes about their services. Obviously I’m there for a reason, I have my dog with me.
As the Mobil arrived, I spoke/​asked the person whom does work for ASPCA, he answered «oh that’s how they do it». «they» who is they? Nothing was on the website indicating that this is the way it works. I do not find that process to be first come first serve. Being there are people there for the first time. Like myself and a couple of other people.
Shouldn’t it be a person who works for ASPCA at the time the Mobil arrives, be the one whom does the job of taking the sign in sheet for the people waiting in line in the cold weather? Not a random man who is not an employee, who doesn’t get paid and has nothing to do with the SPAY/​NEUTER services? As where when I took my dog for his vaccinations at Petland, that was first come first serve by AN EMPLOYEE.
Think there should be a scheduler on your calendar, by first come first serve appointments.
I think that’s fair, not a list from a random man who slept in his car just to make a list & not make others aware. I’m disappointed being this is my first time I tried using your services. And I always make donations to ASPCA.

I spayed my baby female cat yesterday on Brighton location. I came at 5:30 am and was #20 on the list. I was shocked that people starting line as early as 2am!!! But i stayed anyway and was the last person they accept on the track– the rest of the people went home. They accept only 25 animals (they had 3 with appointments and some people brought 2 animals to spay) Appointments got only those who was on the track before but for some reason didn’t get surgery. There is no way to book appt online.
Truck was late. Came at 7:40. They accept my last cat at 9am.
Surgery was done great. I received my cat back at 3:30 promptly. She was agitated, but recovers pretty fast.
Very nice, welcomed and professional people. Highly recommend this service!

Brought my 5 month old kitten to be neutered at the Fort Greene location on 2÷12÷16.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: Just want to state up front, for the record, that the number of stars given for this review is based on ASPCA’s shortcomings in terms of organization and operation, NOT for services rendered. My kitten was returned to me happy and healthy (albeit short two testicles), and as far as I can tell he was treated with the upmost care and compassion before, during, and after his neutering.
OKAY. So the reason for the two stars is this:
The information posted on the website is as follows: «We suggest clients arrive at the location before 7:00 A.M. The clinic serves approximately 20 – 25 animals per day on a first-​come, first-​served basis until full. An ASPCA representative will arrive by 7:00 A.M. to assist with animal sign-​in.» I arrived about 5:30 AM, based on other Unilocal reviews which stated that the lines start early, and was one of only two people there. Other people began arriving around 6:45 AM, which I suppose was due to the fact that it was A) a Friday morning, and B) 12 degrees out.
Anyway, a representative showed up at 7:20 (without the van) to say that the van would be late (which at this point was pretty obvious). The van didn’t show up until 7:30, and then it proceeded to drive around for 20 minutes looking for a spot. Everyone in line was forced to follow the representative around the neighborhood while she looked for parking for the van, toting our freezing animals around like some sort of deranged pet parade. We were given no explanation or apology. I asked for the paperwork so we could begin filling it out to save time (at this point it was 7:45 and I needed to leave for work by 8), and she refused to give it to us, stating «that’s not really how this works.» (To be fair, I know the lateness wasn’t her fault and she was extremely apologetic, but she didn’t even have the number of the person driving the van to get an ETA and she wouldn’t call her supervisor to get confirmation of the van’s arrival.)
Finally the van finds a spot around 8 AM and begins checking in animals. The check-​in process was mercifully short and I was able to take off around 8:15, still late for work but able to sweet talk my boss into not penalizing me for it.
ASPCA: PLEASE BE MORE MINDFUL OF YOUR CLIENTS AND MAKE A BETTER EFFORT TOWARDS TIMELINESS AND COURTESY. It is extremely rude and unprofessional to keep people waiting on a Friday morning, a time when the people you are servicing obviously have work, school, or other time-​sensitive obligations. Additionally, the people who depend on the services and prices you provide through this clinic are majority low income and/​or publicly assisted New Yorkers WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO BE LATE FOR THEIR JOBS. How are we supposed to trust you with our animals when we can’t even trust you to be on time? Unacceptable. I hope other people have a better experience than I had.

I can not stress enough the amount of love shown for my little princess, Yeti! I have been extremely nervous about having her spayed (horrible experience earlier in life at a completely different place). Because of my financial situation, I could not fork over 400 dollars to have the procedure done at a standard vet clinic. After months of reassurance I woke up at 5:30 and proceeded to 5^th ave in Sunset Park. It was raining lightly, but nothing I couldn’t handle! We arrived by bus and walked up to the location listed. Once there it was apparent where everyone started to line up. As I approached everyone said good morning and spoke loud and clear about the list, I signed and soon followed in order at #15. As stated «first come first serve»! I waited patiently and found the process to be faster and less horrifying than what I’ve been reading! Even if you are not seeking low cost animal care, the quality and professionalism was completely up to par!
Dr. Sam (antha) was brilliant! She took time and explained everything loud and clear! Her and her tech (whom has chosen to remain anonymous and give all credit to Dr. Sam) treated every animal as their own! When Yeti got home and we could all breath a sign of relief, she was up eating and trying to play fetch, yes she’s a cat!
We finally settled her down for a nap, when she woke up she was the happiest I’d ever seen! No complications and no negative reactions! Thank you guys so much!
The most important tips I can give are to check the weather and dress accordingly, take a pen and paper, get there early, be patient, and don’t complain! No one cares to hear anyone bitch that early! If you want «special attention» go to your local vet and become their problem!

Other then it being an absolute miserable morning. With slush and flurries. If I can give ANY cons. It would be that the woman in charge was a little flustered and unorganized with everyone waiting In the morning. But I’ll just give her a pass from stress of the weather. Other then that, the experience was great. Neri (My Cat) all though hating her cone lol, is now running around and playful, eating and drinking, after about three hours!

We had our 5 month chihuahua and 5 ½ month year old maltese neutered on Jan ²⁄₂₀₁₆. Our puppies were neutered in the ASPCA Spay/​Neuter mobile clinic in front of Petco at 75 – 35 31^st Ave at 76^th St. The ASPCA staff were wonderful. You can tell they love animals and took care of our babies. Two tips make sure you arrive early and find out if there is a sign in sheet. It can turn into chaos when people who arrive late try to argue their way to the front of the line. Other then that we had a great experience and chatted up fellow pet owners in our neighborhood.

Part two of my review. We picked up our boy and girl at 3:30 and the Vet named Junior was there waiting for us. As we waited in a short line to get them he gave excellent advice and reviewed their procedure in great detail. He offered to carry our dogs to the car if we needed it, gave us our paperwork and tags and a number to call for any questions or concerns. I have to tell you Junior was absolutely amazing. I’d even vote for the guy.:)

Thank God for this place! They have prevented millions of animals from having to die in shelters because of this mobile unit. They are kind and compassionate not only to animals but to people, too. You just can’t beat $ 5 for a spay/​neuter, rabies vaccine and e-​collar for low-​income pet owners.
By the Brooklyn ACC on September 24^th, the hispanic (either vet or tech) was a total gentleman and the coolest guy ever! He is an animal lover and an excellent person. It’s clear that every animal gets their best personal attention.
This place really makes it clear that the ASPCA is dedicated to the love of animals. I will never say enough about this place.

I usually don’t write reviews but I had such a good experience today neutering my pup that I had to leave a good review. Great price and wonderful satisfying service with very friendly staff.
I would suggest those who plan to line up for the service to line up early. I got to the location at 3:30am at Sunset Park and was already #10 on line. The first person that got there (she started lining up at 12am) started a list so it made it easier to keep track and for the staff to use later and to prevent people from cutting the line. Some people bought 3 pets so that counts as 3 spots. Some people had appts as well so they have priority. The truck arrived around 6:30 and the nurse started calling names right away using the list we made. Paperwork is pretty quick, we bring our pet into the mobile to be examined and caged, pay for the service, and was instructed to come back to pick them up at 3:30 — 4:00pm. Its $ 5 with public assistance. I only paid a total of $ 45 for neutering, microchip ($ 20), and flea treatment ($ 20). The nurse was very friendly, patient, and nice. He answered everyones question and kindly turned away those who didn’t make the cut, unlike the reviews I read below of nasty and rude staff, I guess our group was lucky to have a nice staff serving us. Some people wrote down their names but stepped away, therefore they werent present during the name calling but he didn’t cross out their name and gave them until 7:00am before giving their spot away. Boy were they lucky haha. Btw, they are very strict with the numbers as they only have a limited amount of cages in the mobile.
My puppy has an undescended testicle so I was afraid he would not be accepted for neutering but the nurse examined him and was able to find his other testicle a bit higher so he needed two incisions. I was so glad bc getting him neutered at the vet in his case would cost $ 500-​$ 600. So I recommend those with pups with an undescended testicle to still line up and give it a try bc it varies case by case.
We ended up getting our pets after 4:30pm since their generator was not working so it delayed everything and they wanted to make sure all the pets were awake before letting them go. Our pets were carried out to us one by one with e-​collars and paperwork. Once again, the nurse was very patient, answered everyones questions and gave us all the details we needed to know to care for our pets post surgery. I was surprised he remembered everyone’s name/​pets name too!
I am very satisfied with the ASPCA mobile neutering service and the friendly and kind staff made the wait even more bearable.

We had our puppy neutered and he also got his vaccine booster shots, got microchiped and treated for fleas and ticks.
This is by far the cheapest option in NYC. They do a fantastic job. The BIG downside is that you have to arrive at the site before 6AM and do a LOT of waiting. I kid you not, a LOT of waiting! If you don’t get there by 6am you probably will be turned away. They can only handle ip to 25 dogs and/​or cats a day and the handicapped, elderly and those that were turned away for certain reasons may have appointments. Today there were four people there with appointments and one brought two cats. Also, large dogs count as TWO.
If you have a medicaid or SNAP benefit card or live in NYCHA you get it for $ 5 and it includes free vaccination! The microchipping is $ 20, flea and tick treatment is $ 20 and if you need a pet carrier (box) they charge $ 5. If you don’t have a benefit card the neutering is $ 100 plus whatever additional services you need.

As a previous reviewer stated — GET THERE EARLY! wouldn’t want to go through this twice…
Cost effective alternative to using a vet. Professional and experts in neutering. You must get there early! There were people on line as early as 330am (the people at the front of the line had a sign in book — maybe have someone sign in for you?). By 7am there were over 30 people on line. You have to be the 15^th-​18^th person signed in to have a chance to get your dog in b/​c there are only 25 cages in the mobile unit and a) some people bring 2 pets b) larger dogs get 2 cages c) pit bulls get to go to the front of the line even if they get there at 7am and d) there are some people who get appointments (handicapped, or on my day there were a few who were there the previous week but the a/​c broke so they had to stop the surgeries). The morning I came, the last person who got his dog admitted arrived around 530am.
Process was simple — the nurse addressed the group at 7am stating if you weren’t 15−18^th on the list you didn’t have much of a chance. Around 715am the nurse started calling names and handing out applications. Around 745am, the nurse admitted one pet owner at a time into the mobile unit. By 9am all the pets had been admitted. You were told to be back at 330pm. Around 345pm, the pets were given back to the owners on a first come first serve basis. All the pets had been given back by 430pm.
Apparently neutering a male dog is a very simple procedure, so I wasn’t worried not taking my guy to my vet. Was able to save a $ 400 by getting up 2 hrs earlier.

We are finally done with our pup and everything was great! I thought they did pit bull puppies at no charge regardless of income but they do not anymore. Luckily I had a relative on disability who let me use her card… my pup received shots/​microchip/​nail trim/​spay all for 25 $ and with no medicaid or ebt its 125 $ still a great price for all that ! I’m very please and the surgeon was a sweetheart! The workers were friendly and patient. We got there at 3:30a and were #16 so make sure if you go wake up early ! The #1 person for there 10p the night before ! Totally worth it for the service and ease that your pet is in good hands !

I’ve had multiple pets spayed here and recommend all of my friends and family to use them. The cost is several hundreds of dollars cheaper and includes medication if needed.
Any complications that arise from the surgery is also covered by the aspca at no extra cost unlike some vets.

Get there early!
Our first attempt was a failure. I got to the location in Sunset Park on a Sunday at around 5:30am. There was already a list going and i was #31. Some had gotten there as early as 3am! When the truck arrived promptly at 7am, she called some names that had appointments (when a truck breaks down or some other unexpected event occurs) and then started reading off the list. She probably only took about 10 names and it was over.
We tried again a few days later at the Petland Discounts on Fulton Street (Bed-​Stuy). This time, I got there at 4:15 and was #2 on the list. The truck arrived at 7am and we were registered by 8:05. They told me to return at 4pm. My dog had her own clean cage and appeared to be cared for well. They had done the spaying and microchipping for a total of $ 145! My vet quoted me almost $ 900 for those procedures. If you have a benefit card, the spay/​neuter is only $ 5.
What a great service from the ASPCA! Affordable spay/​neuter and reduction of unwanted animals. I highly recommend it, but again, get there early!

Impressive service! Worth to woke up 5am for the waiting list this morning. Pick up my two little one after 4pm. They still sleepy and hopefully they are getting better tomorrow.
