B & D Heating

These guys charge $ 225 /​hr. I called them up to work on 2 projects on 2 separate boilers at the same location to save $$. They wouldn’t touch one boiler. Spend total of 15 minutes and then send me a bill for $ 225 for labor for the full hour. I asked them to prorate the hour but they refused. they are getting expensive.

The guys were knowledgeable and professional, however he charged me an arm and a leg.

I’ve had many good experiences with the skilled technicians at B & D, but this last one deserves special mention. I was initially charged for a visit that pursued a tricky problem, and in the end, despite honest efforts, was unable to resolve it. When I spoke with Bill about it, he agreed that the visit had not been useful and agreed not to charge me. It is that kind of service orientation and honest dealing that keeps me a happy customer.

I love these guys. No, not the cheapest, but they come and do the job right, whether it’s replacing a boiler or fixing a leaky toilet.
I try to have them come and fix multiple things at once, which cuts back on the service fee.
Basically, they’re great.

We’ve been a B&D since we moved to Red Hook in 2003. They are always responsive in an emergency (even after Sandy) and they stand by their work. I have found them to be reasonable and the work is always done cleanly and with craftsmanship. I would recommend them highly.
They just replaced our water heater on the same day we called and removed the dead one cleanly.

I love B&D. I live in an old house with old plumbing and a very old and unique boiler. We have had at least a dozen plumbers in and out trying to deal with issues — especially the boiler — and always getting it wrong. From the beginning, B&D properly diagnosed our issues and handled the problems until they were solved. In addition to being professional and knowledgeable, they are also incredibly nice and personable (Bill Jr and I now have a deep relationship). I also really appreciate how fast they are. In a cold winter like this one has been, even when we have had issues, they have always been able to help same day. We had a problem with my toilet before a huge party and they made sure there was a solution in place in time. These guys are true pros.
Why four stars? Just one reason: PRICE. Plumbers are always expensive, but these guys are at the top. In my opinion, it’s worth it to call someone once and get it done right, but the fact is that if you call B&D you are going to pay.

We always use B&D for our plumbing issues. Although they probably aren’t the least expensive,
1. They are professional. Their plumbers always show up on time and can get an appointment within a day.
2. They are honest. They don’t push replacing old functioning equipment. We still have our old Weil McClain Boiler that was installed in 1957 by the previous owner. The plumber of our general contractor pressured us to replace the boiler, however B&D came for maintenance and told us that the boiler was fine. They also gave us good advice about replacing our hot water heater. When something needs to be replaced, they fix what is necessary.
We have had issues with contractors not showing up, not backing up their work or being less than honest with repairs. Although B&D is not the cheapest, I continue to use them because I know when I call them, the issue is resolved quickly and honestly.

My family been using B&D for years. They are always able to come either the day we call or the following day. The last time we called, my grandfather’s toilet was not flushing. They came within a few hours and quickly replaced the parts and had it flushing again in no time. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend them!

Called them at my mother’s recommendation. Came the same day, quickly.
HOWEVER, they went ahead at replaced a hot water heater without speaking to anyone. $ 1,000 later, we have a new hot water heater… that we didn’t want.

i always call b&d for both my plumbing and heating needs, they are professional, on time and always solve the problem. the workers do not give up until job is perfected. they never leave a mess, they clean up which is a big help. i would highly recommend them.

They never showed up, but still charged my card $ 200. Did not call to let me know they won’t show up. If I wanted a painful customer service experience, I’d call the cable company.

Grifters of the first order. In addition to rip-​off artists, they are outrageously obnoxious. Called for help regarding heating problem. Explained the situation over the phone. Bill said he would send somebody who would figure it out for me. NEVER ONCE DID HE MENTION ANY KIND OF CHARGES JUST TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. So two guys showed up. They were both personable and polite. They went through my entire home and couldn’t figure out what was wrong (about ten minutes of their time). I tipped them each 10 bucks. A week or so later i get a 200 dollar bill in the mail! When i called to find what i was being billed for, i was told that it was for a house call. I mentioned that nobody ever told me that there was a fee just for somebody to show up. Finally, they agreed to accept a fifty dollar fee from me for doing nothing! I was then told to «throw out their number» and never call them again. That was the only worthwhile piece of information i got from them. As it turns out, i called another plumber who came over, checked out the situation, figured out the problem (simply adjusting a valve) and when i asked him how much i owed him, he said, «nothing, i really didn’t do anything.» i gave him forty bucks and thanked him profusely. as erin K said in her post, they are «breathtaking expensive.» and i will add: expensive, rude and don’t know what they are doing!

B&D is awesome! Great, reliable and very professional. They do all the plumbing maintenance for my restaurant, and they will show up within the hour for a service call. They take the time to explain the problem, are always equipped with the tools, equipment and materials needed to fix the problem, AND they clean-​up behind themselves. BONUS points for employing service guys are pretty easy on the eyes!

Breathtakingly expensive. Chaotic bills.

They did great work when my landlord went MIA. The plumber identified the two issues in about 5 minutes (landlord = oh, a year and never did fix it right since he focused on the wrong thing) and fixed them as best he could while keeping it toward the lower-​end of the price range. He did however tell me what else we could do to limit future issues/​damage.
I would have given 5 stars but I think $ 185 per hour might be a bit much to charge. However, the dispatcher was very clear in what the rate would be and I got a call about 30 minutes before the plumber arrived and he came exactly when the office said he would.
Overall, a great experience as far as plumbers go.

I paid 1500 dollars to have a separate dryer exhaust pipe installed through an outside building wall. The four hour job was done professionally and the installer were friendly and cooperative. I would use them again which by the way, my coop building used them to install a new gas boiler. Again, the work was done professionally and their people could not be any nicer and friendly. If you use B& D, ask for Bill, the head guy.

They’ve done great work for our coop’s building forever. A professional local service company and they work well with other local firms.
